James Carder Obituary

James "Jim" Carder, 84, of Cordova, Tennessee went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford, Mississippi. Mr. Carder was born on August 22, 1939 in Altheimer, Arkansas and was the son of the late Clifford and Bonnie Jewel Carder.

Mr. Carder was raised in and received his education in Pine Bluff and White Hall, Arkansas where he graduated from White Hall High School. He continued his education at the then named Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, Arkansas and majored in Chemistry and Mathematics. He further pursued a Master's degree in Chemistry and a storied career of over 50 years as a Chemist. Some highlight moments of his long career both at DuPont in Camden, South Carolina after his Master's degree coursework and at Ideal Chemical and Supply Company in Memphis include: helping his children with crazy lab experiments in the household kitchen, devising the best Bubbles formula for kids' favorite pastime of blowing bubbles, and taking his wife on annual trips to stay at Heber Springs, Arkansas where he had the Aromatique lady as a client.

He served in the Arkansas Army National Guard Unit in Little Rock, Arkansas from 1957 to 1964. He was a member of Covenant Baptist Church. He enjoyed researching the genealogy of his and his wife of 60 years' ancestors. A highlight of his efforts was tracing the Carder family's lineage back to one of the First Families of Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Murray Carder. His survivors include his wife, Barbara Dawson Carder, whom he married in December of 1964 in Pocahontas, Arkansas; son, Mark Carder (Kristie) of Cordova; daughter, Amanda Paige Dozier (Gary) of Oregon; three grandsons who were the light of his life, Caleb Dozier (Vanessa) of Oregon, Ethan Carder, and Elijah Carder of Cordova; three granddaughters who were the apple of his eye, Makayla Weaver (Tony) and Grace Brabec (Kyle) of Washington, as well as Abigail Carder of Cordova; sister, Mollie Jenkins (T.L.) of White Hall, Arkansas; and a sister in law, Carole Carder of Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Thursday, August 1 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. Services will follow at 2:00pm.
