Joseph Merritt Obituary

Joseph Donald (Don) Merritt, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital after a brief illness. He was 92 years old.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice and Tucker Merritt and two sons, Hank and Timothy. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy Clark Merritt, son Joe Merritt, and grandchildren, Brooklyn and Westley of the home.

Don is a 1949 graduate of Christian Brothers High School and obtained a Bachelor's degree from Tulane University. After graduation from college, he went on to serve as a pilot in the United States Air Force and then in the Tennessee National Guard. After faithfully serving our country, he entered the private sector as a realtor which lasted nearly 50 years.

Don was an avid tennis player beginning at six years of age at Bouregard Tennis Courts. He went on to win many tournaments eventually culminating in amateur rankings in the South. He also loved skiing and scuba diving all over the world.

As a devoted Catholic, Don was a member of Saint Louis Church for many years where a memorial mass will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. with the reception following at the church. Interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Louis Catholic Church, 207 South White Station Road, Memphis, Tennessee, 38117.
