Scott Slayton Obituary

Scott Slayton

Cornish, NH - Scott Slayton, Sr., 86, died at home with his family in Cornish on Friday August 9, 2024.

He was born December 27, 1937, in Burlington, VT, a son of Hayden and Bernice (Barup) Slayton. Scott grew up in Plainfield where he found a love of the natural beauty of the area at an early age, while working in the woods with his father and brothers. After attending Windsor High School, Scott served in the US Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the early 1960's. He returned to Plainfield where he married Barbara Devenow on July 13, 1963. They made their home in Plainfield until moving to Cornish where they have lived since 1979. Scott has worked as a logger and woodsman in the area all of his life.

When he wasn't working, he loved spending time with his family, especially time hunting or playing cards. He was a life member of the Windsor Elks and the Windsor American Legion.

Scott was predeceased by his son Scott A. Slayton, Jr.; brothers, Hayden Slayton, Jr and Raney Lee Slayton; sister, Barbara Jean Therrien, Pauline Esparza and Peggyann Slayton.

He leaves his wife of sixty years, Barbara of Cornish; daughter Michelle Brown (Sheldon) of Lebanon; daughter-in-law, Barbara Slayton, granddaughters Sydney (Kaleb) and Josie Brown; great-grandchildren, Malachi, & Cora-Lee Corbett; brothers Tom Slayton, Ron Slayton, Mike Slayton, Bill Slayton, and Shaft Slayton; sister Pam Bomhower and many nieces and nephews.

Scott's family was honored to celebrate his life with him over the last week.
