Charles Thompson Obituary

Charles Alden (Chuck) Thompson, III passed away on the morning of August 15th, with family at his side. A graduate of Christian Brothers High School and Memphis State University, Chuck spent his career in sales and marketing. He was a born leader and excelled at CBHS in academics, sports and student government activities. Chuck embodied the core values of the Brothers with a personal sense of honor, service to others and growth toward a mature relationship with God. The highest recognition of these values was bestowed on him with induction into the CBHS Hall of Fame. All of these values Chuck lived each day and those around him were inspired to be better! Those closest to him would say, if the measure of wealth were kindness and service to others then Chuck was the richest person they knew.

Chuck was born January 12, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio to Charles A Thompson,Jr and Virginia (Ginny) Mary Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Xenia Thompson and his daughter,Jennifer Thompson Pastore (Mike). Brothers, Dr. Richard M Thompson (Debby), Robert E Thompson (Debbie) and Rev. William P Thompson (Carol). Nieces and nephews Cameron Howell (Duncan), Brooke Hamilton (Chris), Anna Uzzell (Hank), Oliver Thompson (Katie), William Thompson (Catherine), Justin Thompson (Stephanie) and Brandon Thompson (Jodi) and many grand nieces and nephews.

Chuck's life took a beautiful turn when he met a young woman from Greece, a divine encounter we believe was orchestrated from above, bringing her all the way to Memphis. They soon married and shared 43 years of deep love and companionship. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Jennifer, who became the light of Chuck's life. His devotion to her was unwavering; he stood by her side through every milestone, offering his full support in all her endeavors. His love for Jennifer was so profound that he even became a dedicated Vols fan when she attended UT Knoxville. The bond they shared was extraordinary-Jennifer often said, "Dad is the only one who can lift my spirits when I'm feeling down." Chuck's pride in his daughter knew no bounds, and his love for her was a testament to the depth of his character.

Chuck enjoyed all sports especially playing golf. He and his brother, Bob, were avid Ohio State football fans. They could be heard pre-season discussing the new recruits and the anticipated lineup, not only the starters but 3 deep at every position.

Chuck had a deep Catholic faith which he practiced faithfully at mass and at his hour of adoration each week, a faith that endured him through several medical issues that were quite challenging. He always met them head on with an upbeat attitude. The family would like to thank Dr. Gordon Kraus, Chuck's lifelong friend and his doctor who was instrumental in helping him battle these illnesses. We would also like to thank Clay Heiberg, a dear friend, who would sit with Chuck at home when it was difficult for him to leave the house.

On August 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM there will be a funeral mass at St. Anne's on Highland at 10 am a family attended burial at Elmwood Cemetery following the service.

Memorials may be sent to Christian Brother's High School, Church Health Center or the charity of one's choice.
