Penelope Allyn Obituary

Penelope "Penny" Allyn

Reading, VT - Penelope Helen Allyn 1953 - August 2, 2024

Penelope Helen Modzelewski was born in 1953 in Springfield, MA to Esther Modzelewski. Penny graduated from Enfield High School in Enfield, Connecticut. She married Ray Lizotte and together they had three children – Ryan, Adam and Jane. She later married Donald M. Allyn and moved to Moon Township, PA. There, she worked for Embassy Suites/Davidson Hotels & Resorts as an HR Director, traveling and training personnel for many years. While working, she attended Robert Morris University at night and earned a degree in Human Resources. When she finally made the transition to retiring, she and her husband, Don, settled in the town of Reading, VT. In Reading, Penny volunteered at the local food shelf. She was elected to the position of Town Assessor of Reading, where she worked for eighteen years. She was known locally as the "dog lady," taking care of many dogs, cats, and other animals as a side business. She became fast friends with the animals and the people of Vermont, making close friendships over the years.

Penny was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and she was loved by all who knew her. Her warmth and smile brought great joy to everyone. She always put people first, and it showed with the friendships she created over the years. Penny offered an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on and wise advice. She had a sense of humor that made many people smile and laugh often. She had a great love of animals, a passion for gardening and enjoyed being outdoors. Penny was a pillar of the community that will be truly missed.

Penny was preceded in death by her mother, Esther Modzelewski. She is survived by her husband, Donald M. Allyn, Tipper (their dog) of Reading, VT, sister Sharon Suschana of Brimfield, MA, sister Lynn Whalen of Westwood, NJ, brother Peter Modzelewski of MA, brother John Beard of Elkton, KY, son Ryan Lizotte (Kate Fuller) of Wilmington, CT, son Adam Lizotte (Shawna) of Fort Collins, CO, daughter Jane Lizotte of Enfield, CT, stepson Mark Allyn of East Hartford, CT and three grandchildren – Jaxson, Landen and Ashlynn.

Penny has been a good friend of mine since High School. We sure were a crazy bunch back then, bell bottoms, listening to music, school dances, talking for hours, being typical teens. We kept in touch through the years, shared cards every Christmas and got together when we could. Lately, we met for lunch every fall. I will truly miss her. Words cannot express my sadness and sorrow. Wishing the family strength and peace during this difficult time. May your memories of Penny give you comfort. She was such a wonderful, caring person who loved her husband and family so very much. Her smile and sense of humor were contagious. God Speed Penny, rest in the loving arms of the angels in heaven. May peace be with you and your family.
