Ruth Akey Obituary

Ruth M. Akey

Greenfield, MA - Ruth M. Akey passed away on December 3, 2024, at the age of 96, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family. Known by so many as Mom, Meme, Meme 2, she is now reunited with her beloved husband Clifford, and we take comfort in knowing she received her Christmas wish.

You would often find her reading (always romance), playing games, doing her crossword puzzles, watching her Hallmark movies, as well as being an avid New England sports fan. She especially enjoyed her 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Every visit was welcomed with a wide smile of excitement, open arms, and of course the manoush. Ruth would often sit in her living room, looking out the window watching the birds or her family gathering in the pool area which always led to a "wave to Meme" from a family member. These moments put a smile on her face.

Our family home has been a welcoming place to gather and celebrate family and friends which many of you have been a part of over the years. These memories of laughter and togetherness will always be in our hearts. She will be dearly missed by her family and everyone that knew her. "May all of our lives be as full as yours, thank you for giving us the gift of each other. We love you Meme" – Beth Robie

Among her survivors, Ruth leaves seven children, Kathy (Bruce) Wilkins; Robert Akey; Carole Akey; David (Ann) Akey; Anne (Hayim) Schwartzman; Nancy (Paul) Robie; and Daniel (Pam) Akey; sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband, Clifford J. Akey, Jr. And her brother, George Koch, Jr.

Our family wants to give our heartfelt thanks to Pioneer Vally Hospice and Palliative Care, especially to Karri and Hillaree for the support they provided us but mostly, the comfort and care they provided to our Mom.

Funeral services will be held Monday 12/9 at 11am at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Greenfield.

Calling hours will be held Monday morning from 9am until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pioneer Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 329 Conway Street, Greenfield, MA 01301; to the Franklin County Hockey Association, P.O. Box 411, Greenfield, MA 01302; or to Greenfield Minor League Baseball, P.O. Box 1127, Greenfield, MA 01302.
