John M. Brands, age 59 of Butler Township, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. He was a graduate of Northmont High School class of 1983 and inducted into the Northmont High School Football Hall of Fame. John had a passion for coaching football and was a coach for many years at Northmont High School, where he was a mentor to so many football athletes. He retired in 2009 from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office as a Major. John was an avid fan of Michigan and the Detroit Red Wings. He is survived by his wife of 20 years: Teresa (Ramey) Brands, children: Tiffany Kreitzer, Trent Brands, father: John "Jack" Brands, brother: Chris (Melissa) Brands, mother-in-law and father-in-law: Judy and Gale Thornton, brother-in-law: Mike (Lisa) Ramey, niece: Aubrey Brands, nephews: Nick Brands, Josh, Joey and Jake Tisone, Michael (Emma) Ramey, James Ramey other relatives and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his mother: Brenda Lou (Roller) Brands. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood). The family will receive friends on Friday, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Northmont Thunderback Club or to the ALS Association.
