Nancy DeStefano Obituary

Nancy R. DeStefano

Concord, NH - Nancy R. (Thompson) DeStefano, 92, died peacefully at the Havenwood Health Care Center on December 23rd after fighting a courageous battle with vascular dementia.

She was born in Concord, NH, the daughter of the late Harley and Cora (Hannigan) Thompson. She was a 1950 graduate of St. John's High School in Concord. She retired from the Post Secondary Education Department for the State of NH after over 30 years of employment, and received her Associates Degree (Accounting) with honors from the NH Technical Institute in Concord in 1980.

She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Elizabeth and Jeannie and her husband of 65 years, Thomas DeStefano. She is survived by her son, Stephen (Ellen) DeStefano of Bow, NH, by her daughter, Diane (Kevin Temple) DeStefano of Concord, NH, by her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren who knew her as "Gma," as well as several nieces and nephews. Nancy loved to jitterbug dance, travel, go on cruises, exercise to include golf and cross country skiing, go to the theater, sing and listen to the Irish Tenors.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 180 Loudon Road in Concord on Saturday, January 4th at 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Burial will be held privately at a separate time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pope Memorial SPCA or Bishop Brady High School in her honor.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the entire staff of the first floor Havenwood Healthcare Center, for their kindness, compassion and exceptional care, along with the entire Amedysis Hospice team.

As an auditor with the State in the 80´s, my first assignment was Post Secondary. It was here I met Nancy and a wonderful person she was. Now retired, I think of Nancy time to time as I reflect back to those people that bring pleasant memories. It was later I worked with her son Steve in the legislature and he too was a joy to work with. Knowing his mother was Nancy, it all makes perfect sense. Great family and rest assured she led a wonderful life of work and family. Grateful our paths crossed.
