Darlis Edwards Scobey Obituary

Darlis (Dee) Rebecca Edwards Scobey, daughter of Ewell Sherman and Naomi Ruth Palmer Edwards, entered this world on November 24, 1929, in Webster County, Missouri, and departed on January 26, 2025, from Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, Tennessee. After attending Independence School, a one-room school house, for most of her elementary education, Darlis graduated from Lebanon High School in Lebanon, Missouri. She then attended Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee, where she met James Ralph Scobey, who became her husband on September 4, 1949. Once James completed his seminary studies, he entered the Air Force chaplaincy, with Darlis always at the ready to support him in his work and to provide a stable homelife for their two daughters during their frequent moves. After retiring from the Air Force, James and Darlis settled in Farmington, Missouri, where he served as a hospital chaplain and she as a social worker at Farmington Presbyterian Manor. In addition, Darlis volunteered for many years at the Ministerial Alliance Thrift Store, filling in as interim director as needed, and also for Serenity Hospice. With her phenomenal memory, Darlis was an engaging storyteller and, fortunately for her family, she recorded many of her stories in a book about her life. Her many talents extended to painting, sewing, and needlework of many kinds. Darlis is predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her sisters Leatrice Otelia Edwards Nyberg and Marian Ella Edwards Fleischman. She is survived by her sister, Nita Ruth Edwards McMillan (Ron); her daughters, Laurinda Kay Scobey Patterson (Cooper) and Patricia Ann Scobey (Tim Moore); four grandchildren: Rebecca Jill Patterson Luter (Chris), James Christopher Patterson (Rachel), Gaben Keith Scobey Moore (Connie), and Rosa Irene Scobey Moore (Geoff Iverson); and seven great-grandchildren: Nicholas Riley and Elizabeth Scobey Luter; Isaac Keith, Eli James and Julian Alan Moore; Eleanor Julia Iverson; and James Edward Patterson. A Memorial Service will be held at Farmington Presbyterian Church, Germantown, Tennessee, on February 16, 2025, at 3pm. Interment will take place at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on May 24, 2025. Memorials in Missouri may be given to Serenity Hospice, Park Hills, MO; Help the Hungry, Box 91, Farmington, MO; Farmington Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry; or Farmington, MO, Presbyterian Church. Memorials in Tennessee may be given to Farmington Presbyterian Church, Germantown, Tennessee.
