Yumie Kirk Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Serenity Funeral Home on Feb. 21, 2025.
Mr. Yumie Kirk Jr. was born October 28, 1942 in Memphis Tn. To the late Yumie Kirk Sr. and Mildred Hayes Kirk. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Martha Kirk, his two daughters Gwendolyn Kirk-Chapman and Carolyn Kirk-Wigley (Stephen III) born to his late wife Ada Palmoore Kirk, his sister Marie Kirk Owens, bonus children Darrel Exum (Darchell), Adriane McNeal Webb (Percy) and Eric McNeal, grandchildren Stephen IV (Michelle), Frederick, Tierney, Taylor, Darcha, Darkecha, Darrell Jr., and Eden, nephew Brent (Kristen), a host of brother and sister in laws and great grandchildren.
Yumie was fondly known as "Pepper" to many. He was a hard worker who loved nature and animals and loved to tell jokes. He did things "His Way". Yumie graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1961 and continued his education at LeMoyne Owen College where he received his Bachelor's in English and his Master's in Business Finance. His love of education paved his way for a teaching career at BTW and later Kingsbury High School. He was later employed with First National Bank where he was promoted and became one of the first African-American Branch Managers in Memphis. His formal working years ended at Memphis Light Gas & Water as a Claims Adjuster. His retirement allowed him to fully follow his passion for nature and landscaping with his business "Yards by Yumie". He was happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends enjoying a good meal with plenty of talking, joking and retelling of old stories where he was known to spontaneously burst out with tears of joy.

Daddy, you are so much more than I could have ever imagined. I know I was blessed to have had you in my life for 63 years when I only had Mommi for 26. I love and thank from the bottom of my heart for all the memories, love, sacrifices and
your patience with me. Thank you for acknowledging my accomplishments and no judgement on my shortcomings. I'll continue to try to do you and Mommi proud until I see you both again.
