Rev. Milton Leon Sullivan Sr., age 78, native of Jonesboro, journeyed to his heavenly home on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, in Dale, Ind.
Milton was born, to Willie D. and Willie Mae Sullivan, and husband to Addie M Forney. As a proud graduate of Brooker T. Washington High School, Milton was known as the first Black basketball athlete at Arkansas State University, breaking barriers in 1964.
He later worked as a dedicated car salesman for more than 30 years and was a faithful and active member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Milton was respected by many for his warm personality and smile, sharp wit, and unwavering love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Addie M. Sullivan; his brothers, Billy G. Williams and Fredrick Donnell Sullivan; and his son, Lance Sullivan.
Milton leaves to cherish his memory seven children: Eilea Douthet of Southaven, Miss.; Steven (Michelle) Kennedy of Scott, Ark.; Sereatha (Sean) Clarke of Bixby, Okla.; Jennifer Sullivan of Columbia, Mo.; Milton Sullivan Jr. of Scott; Cornelius (Rosalyn) Sullivan of Memphis; and Willie Sullivan of Atlanta.
He is also survived by three siblings: Ronnie (Avelia) Sullivan of Litchfield Park, Ariz.; Tony Sullivan of Sherwood; and Doris Rogers of Memphis.
Milton's legacy continues through his nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

To all of the Sullivan children: we share sweet memories of having lived across from your house on Eldridge Street for a few years.
My wife, Adelle, always enjoyed the visits with your mother, Addie, while they sat in the shade in our front yard where they shared many pleasant moments.
We are thankful to have watched the Sullivan children grow up to become such handsome, talented, and sweet people like your parents were.
Our prayers for comfort and strength will be offered to the Lord for you. God bless you all.

Milton was one of the best if not the best high school and college basketball players I ever saw. Tremendous. Like many of us he came from poverty to excel in life. He raised a good America family. I am proud to have known him.
