Bruce Bickerstaff Obituary

With deep respect and loving remembrance, we announce the passing of Bruce Carlyle Bickerstaff on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the age of 80. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and patriot, Bruce's life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his country and community. Born on February 19, 1945, and raised in West Helena, Arkansas, Bruce was shaped by the values of hard work, integrity, and faith. These principles guided him through a distinguished life of public service and personal devotion. Bruce answered the call to serve his country with honor as an Army helicopter pilot, completing two tours in Vietnam. He retired with the rank of Major, reflecting his courage, leadership, and dedication to fellow soldiers. Bruce also protected and served as an officer with the Memphis Police Department, retiring as Captain after 32 years of steadfast service to the Memphis community. Yet, Bruce's most enduring legacy lies in the deep love he held for his family. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife Kathy of 46 years, and a proud father and grandfather to a large and loving family. He is survived by his children: Lori Speer (Keith) of Ellsworth, KS, Bruce Bickerstaff II (Alyssa) of Millington, TN, Brian Christopher Bickerstaff of California, Brandi Reed (Tommy) of Drummonds, TN, and Brooke Cox (Charles) of New Llano, LA. His family also includes thirteen cherished grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense pride and joy to his life. Bruce's heart and home also extended to his bonus children – Rhonda Causie (Dan), Ronnie Hill (Marty), and Robert Felts (Brandy), whom he loved well. Preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Herman Bickerstaff, his birth mother, Paula Noe, his daughters Patricia Anne and Sherri Lynn, and siblings Thomas Noe and Paula Noe, Bruce's memory lives on in the hearts of those he touched. He is also survived by numerous beloved in-laws, including Joey James, Yvonne and Cecil Martin, Joyce Moore, Carol Dixon, and Ron Jackson, extended family members, including his cousin, Gary Funk, and many friends. Each of these individuals carries forward a piece of his enduring spirit. A man of strength, humility, and profound devotion, Bruce Carlyle Bickerstaff will be remembered for his values of loyalty, courage, compassion, and an unshakeable dedication to those he loved. His life was a testament to what it means to serve with honor and to live with purpose. We celebrate his memory. Visitation is scheduled 9:00-10:00 am with military honors to follow on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Forest Hill East on Whitten Road. A graveside service will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Pallbearers will include Tommy Reed, Thomas Reed, Trey Bickerstaff, Michael Dixon, Ely Cox, and Hayden Cox. In place of flowers, the family would welcome contributions to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of choice. I served with Bruce during his second tour in Vietnam. I flew with him as a "volunteer" on the 1st Brigade pink team. He was a gifted pilot and a really good man. I learned a lot from him; much of which served me well later in life. Rest in Peace, Soldier. Mission accomplished.
