Sarah Ann Jones, age 80, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, at Baptist Hospice House. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Sarah lived a life of service, love, and unwavering faith.
Funeral Services will be Monday April 21, 2025 at 1:00 in the afternoon held at Immanuel Baptist Church Olive Branch. Visitation will be 11:00am till time of service.
Sarah was born in Rutherford, TN to Ernest & Demmie Pearl Lumpkin on June 14, 1944. Sarah dedicated over 40 years of her life as a substitute teacher within the Desoto County School system, where her gentle spirit and passion for learning touched the lives of countless students. She was a faithful and active member of her church Immanuel Baptist Church of Olive Branch, MS, teaching Sunday school, countless women's Bible Studies, and pouring her heart into Vacation Bible School each summer. She had a deep love for gardening and found joy in cooking, often preparing meals to bless others in times of need.
Sarah was full of personality and warmth. She never met a stranger and was never at a loss for words. Her sense of humor and storytelling made her a natural entertainer-always ready with a funny story, a kind word, or a familiar tune. One of her favorite ways to bring smiles was singing "Purple People Eater," which she performed with joy and flair. Among her many family traditions, one of the most treasured was her yearly recitation of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, which became a beloved part of the holiday season for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren
Above all, Sarah loved the Lord with everything in her. Her faith wasn't just something she practiced-it was the foundation of who she was. Everywhere she went, she made it her mission to share God's love. She was known for asking everyone she met, "Are you saved?"-always ready to minister, to pray, and to make sure that others knew the saving grace of Jesus. Everything she did was an act of worship, and her life was a living testimony to God's goodness.
Sarah is survived by her loving family, who were the pride and joy of her life: her children Ernie Jones (Lana) of Olive Branch, MS; Tony Jones (Rhonda) of Troy, TN; Amber Grimes (Rodney) of Medina, TN; and Jonathan Jones. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Kayla Perkins (Dalton), Lauren Green (Jeremy), Rachel Mosley (Tyler), Andy Newman, Kate Grimes, Caleb Grimes, and Rachel Grimes. She also leaves behind four great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy: John Powell and Claire Mosley (children of Rachel and Tyler), Sutton Green (child of Lauren and Jeremy), and Kinsley Perkins (child of Kayla and Dalton).
She is also survived by her siblings Martha Phelan, Mamie Woods (Larry), and James Lumpkin (Linda).
Sarah was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 28 years, Andrew Lee Jones; her parents, Ernest and Demmie Lumpkin; and her sister, Sue Staten.
Sarah's legacy is one of compassion, service, and unshakable faith. She touched countless lives through her words and actions and was a true reflection of God's love. She will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
