Larry Owsowitz Obituary

Larry C. Owsowitz

Concord, NH - Larry C. Owsowitz died at hospice house in Concord on Tuesday, June 10 after a long battle with glioblastoma. Larry was born in Moses Lake, Washington on February 14, 1957. As an Air Force brat, Larry grew up moving from base to base both in the US and abroad, learning to speak German fluently as a young child. After graduating from high school, Larry attended the University of Arizona as a ROTC cadet and then proudly served his country in the Air Force as a fighter pilot for 20 years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. In 1991 he began flying as a commercial airline pilot for American Airlines until he retired.

Larry was most proud of having obtained his driver's license and having soloed as a pilot, both on his 16th birthday. In 1988, Larry married Anne Sadowski while they were both stationed in Japan. Larry and Anne eventually settled in Concord, NH where their daughters, Lauren and Ellen were raised and where Larry enthusiastically embraced his role as a father, joining his girls on numerous field trips and entertaining the girls' classmates with anecdotes about his flying escapades. He was a really cool dad, except when he insisted on rearranging the dishwasher.

In his spare time, Larry was a flight instructor and safety officer for the Henniker Flying Club of which he was a member for 19 years. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his fellow pilots and flying the friendly skies around Concord. He was also the neighborhood expert on all things celestial, often engaging his girls and the neighbors (willing and unwilling) in backyard stargazing adventures. Those who knew him will never look at a lenticular cloud the same way again.

Larry is survived by his wife, Anne, of Concord and his daughters, Lauren (of Brooklyn, NY) and Ellen (of Toronto, Canada). He was predeceased by his older brother, Samuel E. Owsowitz, and his parents, David Owsowitz and Jan (Olsen) Owsowitz. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at the Concord Country Club, Concord, NH on Wednesday, June 25 at 5:00pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held on June 26 at 10:00am at Blessed Sacrament church in Manchester, NH. Interment will follow at the NH Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen. Donations in Larry's memory may be made to NH Catholic Charities and the NH Food Bank.

I was shocked to hear about "OZ". Word has spread rapidly of him through our F-16 squadron, 313TFS from Hahn AB Germany. OZ, as we called him, was very well liked in the squadron. Always a smile, great humor and willing to help anyone. It was great to seem him 3 years ago at the squadron reunion in Tuscon. So much can happen to all of us in so little time. Deepest sympathy and condolences to all his family and friends. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed!
