Maxine Marus Obituary
Born on August 23, 1931 in Memphis, TN, she was the daughter of Hubert and Anna Gangl. A lifelong Memphian, she was a graduate of Snowden Junior High School, Central High School, and Memphis State University. Maxine retired at the age of 70 after a long career with the Shelby County Health Department.
Maxine was a devoted mother and grandmother who never missed an opportunity to cheer her family on in sporting events, dance competitions, school presentations, or life milestones. She was happiest traveling with her family, her bags were always packed, ready to go and she always wanted to extend the trip by a day or two. Her other passion was gardening. Her love for flowers and flower arranging continued throughout her life, including her final years, where she faithfully planted and tended the flowers on the patio at Ave Maria Home.
Survivors include her sons, Ramon Marus, Jr. (Elisa) of Memphis, TN, and Mark Marus of Montgomery, AL; her grandchildren, Andrea Marus Rust (Cameron) of Nashville, TN, Taryn Marus and Alex Marus of Montgomery, AL; and her great-grandchildren Marley Burton and Lilly Rust; and her brother, Hubert Gangl Jr. of Huntsville, AL.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Anna Gangl, and her sister-in-law, Barbara Gangl.
At her request, a private family Funeral Mass will be held. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Maxine Marus, which was a charity close to her heart.
