Getting to know Sally and Jean over the past few years had been such a blessing. Sally always had a smile and enjoyed her sweet treats. I believe anyone who met her was truly blessed to have done so in this lifetime.

Although Sally was my Spanish teacher who taught me to love speaking Spanish to this day, I remember her most through The Learning Tree Farm. Mike and I helped out in their garden and property in the early 70s. I even helped teach outdoor education one summer. When we moved to Seattle, we lost touch. To think that the Farm is thriving is a wonderful tribute to Sally and to Jean.

Sally and Jean were a great inspiration to my family and to my parents. My parents loved their vision for the Learning Tree and took great pleasure in helping out in any way they could. My daughter, Anya, was born the same year the project began and I have many good memories of bring her to the farm every time we were in Dayton. The progress of the farm was always a topic of conversation and Sally's intelligence and enthusiasm were a great motivator. I am sorry for her passing.

Sister Rose Joseph, as we knew her by name back then at Carroll Hogh School, was a great teacher of Spanish. Her teachings have stayed with me, allowing me to converse today with my UN neighbors from Latin. America as well as to survive past tourist and hunting trips to Spain armed solely with my Carroll high school Spanish.
In addition to learning Spanish from this fine lady, as president of the Modern Language Club at Carroll I was privileged to grow my organizational and leadership skills with Hermana Rosa Jose as our club´s faculty advisor.
Rest in peace, Hermana. You made a difference.
