Donald Torrey Obituary

Donald Torrey

Easthampton, MA - Donald W. Torrey, 77, of School Street, Easthampton, passed away peacefully on December 27th.

Born December 1, 1948, Donald worked for many years as an Environmental Engineer, serving both the Easthampton School System and Westfield Public Schools, and later owned and operated Yankee Services. He took pride in his work and will be remembered for his dedication and steady presence.

Donald was a proud longtime member of the Pascommuck Club in Easthampton. His friends and community were a central part of his life. His days often began with his familiar daily breakfast at the Silver Spoon, a routine he cherished and often ended the days with dinner in town with his partner Karen. Donald was also known for his voice in local city politics, where he stood firmly by his conservative beliefs.

Donald was an avid golfer, a history buff, and lover of scuba diving, travel, and adventure. He especially enjoyed adventures shared with Karen and his closest friends. He valued experiences, time spent with those he cared about most, his coffee, and good antiques. Donald was a constant in many people's lives and his reliability, generosity, and humor will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his longtime partner and significant other of 40 years, Karen Whiteley, his longtime friend Becky Bachand, cousin Jim Brown, step brother Adrian Nowak, step grandchildren Sarah Whiteley, Laura Vanovac and their father Daniel S. Whiteley, nieces and nephews Beth Baker, Callee Torrey, and Casey Torrey, many grand-nieces and nephews, dear friends Greg and Val Camp and many more.

Donald was predeceased by his brother Leland Clark Torrey (2006) and best friend Richard Bond (2024).

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 11th, from 1:00–4:00 PM at Graham Funeral Home in Easthampton. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Brookside Cemetery.

Donald's favorite color was green. In honor of his life, family and friends are invited to wear a touch of green to celebrate and remember him.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Wounded Warriors or organizations supporting agent orange victims and veterans.

A celebration of life to honor Donald will be planned in the near future.

Sorry to hear of Don's death. I enjoyed/valued our long and interesting discussions at the Pizza House.. I knew Don's dad years ago, Wallace Torrey, who was an Easthampton Fire Dept Deputy Chief, and I was a Chicopee Firefighter.. I met Wallace and Don in the 1970's at the now gone Remember When (Fran & Eds way back)

Don was a hardworking, kind and generous man who we've had the privilege to have as a friend. We grew up in Easthampton during a great era and over the years our roots in our hometown grew stronger. Now as our circle closes, we have wonderful memories to share. We'll miss our summer stays at your School Street Villa, discussions of politics, from local issues to national events over numerous cups of coffee or hanging out in the "meeting room" in the garage. You would have been a GREAT Mayor!

Rest in Peace, old Friend

Don - "I will miss your "common sense" logic, regarding politics, and our conversations on that very subject... You were a good friend, with a good, kind, and caring soul"...

"Our condolences to your family at this very sad time"...

"May you rest in peace"...

Sincerely,
Lee & Sue
