To the family of Robert B. Jenkins,
My name is Zack Jenkins I am 18 years old and i am a senior at Winfield City High School in Winfield, Alabama. I am taking Goverment as my history class and we had to choose a veteran to write a letter to so i picked you because i felt a special relation with our last names being the same.After this year, i hope to attend Mississippi State College and I plan to pursue in Wildlife, fisheries, and aquaculture and/or marine mechanics. I play football at Winfield, we have had a pretty gopod season, we ended up 6-4 regular season, but we made it to the playoffs and our first game is this friday. Im am sorry the loss that you have suffered, but I am glad that there are people in this world that are brave enough to make the sacrifice to give us the freedom that we have and allow me to enjoy ever day that we have, because we are never granted another day. I have another brother who will turn 9 this month, his name is Blake, I also have another brother who died when he was born, he was born a year later than I was. I hope this message has atleast the least little bit of meaning to you, this is just my way of expressing my feelings and thanking you for everything that you have done for me and our country! God Bless and Have a good day!If you would like to, or feel the need to respond, you can reach me and my teacher at [email protected] thank you!

Bobby
Chrissy, AJ and I attended the Stuart Air Show today; I know you were there too. Norm was able to reach Chrissy and I even though we were at a wedding in the Keys. He told us that the Black Daggers would be making a jump and dedicating it to you. We came home early to witness this event. As the Black Daggers were descending from the sky, the announcer spoke of you, your service and ultimate sacrifice. You received whistles and thundering applause. The love, honor and respect that were given to you and all servicemen and women serving our country left me breathless. I love, honor, and respect you. Forever yours, Lizzie

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Robert was selected as a fallen soldier for me to honor and remember. What a bright smile and sparkling eyes. I would think him mischievous as a young boy. I cannot even imagine losing one of my children or my husband. Please know that I will keep you all in the front of my mind and in my prayers, not just tomorrow, Memorial Day, but every day now. May you all feel the peace, that Robert has earned.

Today I was given an assignment in my public speaking class. We were asked to choose who we wanted to nominate for a hall of fame speech. I sat there thinking about it for a little while. I could be funny and choose a comedian. I could be dramatic and choose someone infamous. Then I thought, I want to talk about who has made one of the greatest impacts on my life. I remember I was 14 when I met Jenkins(that's what us Seabee kids are taught, call em by their last name ya know :D ) He always made me smile. He was the last person that I spoke to on the plana as they took off to Gulfport. May 2nd 2004 will forever be engraved in my mind. My mom was the Ombudsmen so she got the news first I guess. I almost didnt want my dad to be alright because I had read about the guys that had left behind 4 or 5 kids and thought, I would rather go through that than them but was yet relieved that he was. Sitting there, somehow I knew the two names my mom was going to say. When she did, I can tell you that I ran out of the room and got sick. This was one of my dad's closest friends and Liz and...I could not find words. I want to tell you that Jenkins made one of the greatest impacts on my life and on April 29th 2009, he is going to get all the attention in a little room at Palm Beach Atlantic University because he is my defintion of a freedom fighter and a true hero of mine.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers today.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Robert, but I am remembering on
this day he gave his all.
He is my hero.

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Liz,
I just had to write as I have been thinking alot lately about my dear friend Bob. I felt the need to tell you that he wants you to be happy again. He will always be there for you watching over you and one day he will grab you up in one of those big twirling bear hugs when you meet again in heaven. Until then I think he would also want you to know it's okay to love again, and to allow yourself to be loved. I'm not sure why he is sending this message thru me but I hope it helps you in some way. Please if you would drop me a note to let me know you are okay! Again I hope you are doing well and just know we all miss him he was and is still a great person!!

Bobby,
I was never given the pleasure to meet you, but I have had the privilege of getting to know your incredible wife Liz. I want to say that every day that goes by, I am thankful for those that are at home and abroad, working to protect our great country. From the posts and from what Liz has told me, you were quite the man - one that should be emulated by many. It takes a true hero to put his or her life on the line in service to those around you, and for that I am personally grateful.

If you were even half of the person that Liz is, I know that you were a good person, and from what I hear you two were a perfect match. As the years progress, know that none of us will forget the sacrifice that you or any of your other fallen brothers have made. May god look over those that you left behind.

And to Liz - I want to say that I feel honored to have gotten to know you over the past year, I truly don't know anyone that has as big of a heart as you do. I will always consider you a great friend, thank you for everything, and know that I will always be here if you need anything at all.

All my love to the both of you

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Visiting you brings back so many wonderful memories. You are not forgotten and I will continue to honor you and respect all that you sacrificed. Each year, AJ asks when will he be allowed to visit you. He wrote his morning dedication at school in your honor on May 2nd, and told his class how you fought for our freedom. They posted his annoucement on the board at school. Thank you for blessing my life and countless others.

He will not be forgotten.

NMCB 14 has a proud tradition of proud saliors. I served with Robert in NMCB 14 and he was a good man. I am in Afghanistan now, serving with the Army and I think about the SEABEES that died on that day every day.

My heart and prayers are with the family . Knowing that the ultimate sacrafice for our country has been give it still does not make it easy to understand. Just know that God controls our fate and all that abounds. I lost my husband in Vietnam, I know and understand the feeling this family is going through. May God bless you and give you peace

I am deeply sorry for the loss of Robert Jenkins. I live quite close to Stuart, FL. Having spent time in the service, I can tell you take Robert Jenkins was a selfless, giving person, loved by family, friends, and brothers in arms. He gave his life protecting American's.

I am reminded of John 15:13, "Greater love hath no man than this,

that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Back in February of 1991, I met one of the best people that I have ever met. His name was Robert Boyd Jenkins and not only did he become my best friend , he also became a part of my family, my brother. I didn't get to spend as much time with him on this earth as I would've liked but those times I did get to spend with him were some of the best and most important times of my life. To this day, and forever beyond, a thought, or many thoughts, of him go through my mind on a daily basis, and he still manages to bring a great big smile to my face, along with the tears when I feel the loss that not only I have, but I know that many others share with me.

Thanks to Bob, I got to meet a great wealth of friends, but more importantly I got to add to my family. I called his beautiful mother, Bonnie, mom, on many occasion and even got to have the honor to have her as my "date" at his wedding to his beautiful wife Liz. I got to know his father Dave and his beautiful wife, Linda. Then there's Jerrilynn and Shaun, Bob's beautiful sister and her husband with their two children. The few times I've been with them has always been fun and memorable get togethers. Then there's my classy and beautiful sister-in-law Elizabeth. I'm happy to say that she is a very important and fantastic addition to my family, because of my brother Bob. I know that he loved her so much and so hard that I thought sometimes he would burst. I remember all the things he would talk about with me about her, that I could just feel his love for her even over the phone lines from PA. to FLA. I'm happy to say that Liz is still and will always be a part of my family not only as my sister-in-law but also as Aunt Liz for my son Glen Thomas, who is and always will be Bob's godson. If you notice there is an underlying theme here and that is that Bob was surrounded by beautiful people who loved and cared for him very much, because he was one of the most beautiful and extraordinary persons I had ever had the pleasure to call my friend and brother.

To every Seabee, sailor, soldier, Marine, and every other person that stands up for our country and serves our country not only in this time of war but also in times of peace now, in the past and forever more, God Bless You, stay ever alert and vigilant and always remember that you are defending not only this beautiful land we live in, but also protecting those that cannot defend themselves, those who love their freedoms and those whom you love and wish protected. Each and every one of you are as important as Robert Boyd Jenkins and all the others who have passed defending and honoring our freedoms, ideals and the great and beautiful Red, White and Blue.

To My Brother And Friend Forever, I Love You And Miss You, But I Shall Never Never Forget You And The Way You Enriched My Life. Thank You Bob. 5/2/2004

Hello all. I am writing for those of you who have elected to receive a reminder of new postings for Bobby.

I wanted to let you know that Bobby's birthday was on Valentines Day. Rather than mourn his passing by myself I decided to celebrate his life with our friends that live in town. About 20 of us gathered for a dinner at The Ashley; the restaurant that Bobby and I met at 8 years ago. It was wonderful to get together and share stories again about how Bobby enriched each of our lives. We had a toast, and AJ (our dear friend’s son) got on stage and dedicated a song to Bobby and me. He sang GOB BLESS AMERICA and silenced the entire audience. In fact he received more applause than the gentleman hired to perform that night. Bobby is my hero as I imagine he is yours. Thank you to everyone who has shown your support. I can't even imagine where I would be without the love from each of you...

Much Thanks, Your...

Daughter, Daughter-in-law, Sister-in law, and grateful friend, LIZ

A special thanks also goes out to Lieutenant Commander Gutierrez who has helped me tremendously throughout this difficult time...to you Tony...I am grateful for your respect, professionalism, honesty, sincerity and love. You are an amazing man with an amazing wife. I wish you both sweet success and hope for the future. Please keep in touch.

I came across this guest book by accident. At least I thought I did but it was more like some force brought me here. I wish I could tell you the hurt will go away after time , but we all know better. But always think of the happy times ya'll had. And that Robert has touched more hearts then he will ever know. I will always remember his name and what he gave in order for us to have our freedom. God Bless YOu ! My heart goes out to you for what you had to give up. Robert Jenkins name will live on forever in my heart!

To our family and friends:

I wanted to thank all of you for the love and support you have shown for Bobby and me. I am truly amazed at how many lives he touched. He had no idea how blessed he was to have such wonderful people in his life, and now I know how very special all of you are to me.

This guest book has been very comforting to me. Reading messages from those who knew us and those who don't know us that took the time to express their appreciation and gratitude to Bobby is very heartwarming. Bobby loved this country so much and took great pride in serving in the Navy Seabees. To all of you out there, THANK YOU. Bobby is in Heaven right now grinning ear to ear and grateful that you are all a part of my life now.

Thank you and Gob bless our troops.

I know there are no words to take away your loss and sorrow. I want you to know though that I will be lifting you up in my prayers and asking the Lord to comfort you during this time. I know how difficult it is just knowing our loved ones are over there fighting and serving. I myself have a twin brother there who is in the Army. My heart goes out to you and my children and I will be praying for you. May God bless you.

My deepest sympathies are with you and your family at this difficult time. Though difficult to understand at times like these, his death was not in vein. He was an American Soldier who lost his life defending this great Nation, and the freedom that we often take for granted. May God be with you and you family.
