I met Leslie(Jack) in January 2003 when I arrived at Fort Hood (Corvazos), TX. We became close friends really fast as we were the only two females in our platoon. I looked at her as my younger sister due to the 5 year age difference. She was smart beyond her years and if you saw one of us, you saw the other. I can't believe it's been 19 years since I last saw that beautiful smile. Jack was a joy to be around. We were counting down the days until we redeployed and even at our scariest moments, we had each other and we always looked back on them and laughed. We would often call Ms. V, and ask her to send us stuff to share. I know Jack watching over me the rest of the time there and I thank God, Ms. V, and her family for blessing the world with such a young, strong-willed, and lovely human.

You inspire me to be the best mom I can be. When you past my daughter were three months old. I didn't know what to do or say. I've always thought of you as my daughter's angel even though she didn't get to meet her older cousin. I have shown her pictures of us when we were kids and love we shared was awesome. Keep watching over the family and I will always keep you in my heart. Love always your cousin,

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there us injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

This is a poem for a soldier who made a sacrifice
This is a memoir for the young lady who always wanted to look nice.
Memories still food my mind of the cheerleader at Thompson Middle School
The transformation into a leader, as a single battalion came under her rule.
JROTC was her life, it was evident and clear to see
So the decision to join the Army wasn't a surprise to me.
She dedicated herself to the bettering of her cadets
So when she graduated, the whole battalion had her respect.
She went on and pursued her passion, and we all wished her well.
Then she came to the school, bad news she would surely tell.
She told us she was deploying to Iraq, and that she would soon leave.
She assured me it would be alright if only I believed.
Successor to her position as Battalion Commander, the shoes were far too big to fill.
But she smiled and said "you can do it" and I said "I know I will"
The news of her passing hit the school like a wave.
Upon hearing the news I ordered the flags at half that day.
We had lost a soldier, a comrade, a leader and a friend.
May 20, 2004 a day that I thought would never end.
She made a sacrifice doing what she loved to do.
So I conclude this poem by saying "Leslie, I'm proud of you."

Today I placed the coin near Eloy, AZ. to start its journey to honor Pfc. Jackson and all our Fallen Hero's. This coin and its travels can be followed at www.geocaching.com and the ref. number for this coin is TB2DRY7.

First off let me say i am deeply sorry for the loss of such a beautiful young lady. I didnt know Leslie personally but i knew her brother Leslie "Peewee" Riley and even though i havent seen him in years since he left Pittsburgh i can still remember him speaking so highly of his sister Leslie and how fond he was of her. This makes me sad that i had to find him this way all of these years but they always say god will bring certain people back in your life for a reason so with that being said if Peewee is reading this i want him to know i just recently lost my younger brother so i know the pain you feel even though you lost your sister some years back i can relate with the pain you feel. My prayers and thoughts are with you now and forever. God Bless the Jackson-Riley family.

I have no words that can express my gratitude as well as my sympathy. To know there is a woman, PFC. Leslie D. Jackson, that gave her life to see that I can still enjoy the freedoms here in the United States, blows my mind even 5 years later. It hit me like a brick when I saw the promise in her eyes through her photo. To the proud family and friends of PFC. Leslie D. Jackson: I will honor her sacrifice and share the awareness so that many others will give their tributes respectfully to those we don't even know. God Bless!!

I never met PFC. Jackson, but as I viewed the photos of fallen heroes, I saw her picture and found myself overcome with emotion. Seeing the pictures of the fallen heroes, especially the young one's, like PFC. Jackson, really hits home. This young woman, bravely served her country and carried out her duties faithfully and gave her life in our defense. I salute and honor PFC. Jackson and to the parents, friends and other relatives of this young woman. She is no longer among you in the physical sense, but she lives on in spirit. GOD only calls on the best of us, to serve and carry out his will in heaven. One day, you will be reunited with your loved one. May GOD bless you all.

Family of the Late PFC Jackson,
We did not know Leslie, however, we wanted to honor her on this Memorial Day. My husband is a Vietnam Veteran, so
I can imagine how difficult it was to have Leslie in battle. Then to lose her, I cannot imagine.
We honor Leslie for her devotion to her country. She gave her precious life that we may reamin free.
It is our hope that, as a free nation, we will not dishonor her memory by not supporting our military and nation to remain free.
Be encouraged and blessed

Leslie, WOW .... Its been almost five years this May, since we last spoke. Words can not express how much I miss hearing your voice, and laughter. Its strange how you were just at my moms house, waiting for me to get there, to see us on your visit back home from Texas. Remember ... I was pregnant with Makhell, and you shook my stomach saying, " I can't wait for you to get here"! This is what I hear every year around May, because as soon as you left us, he was born three days later. I will and can not forget you because of that and much more. I will always love, cherish, remember, and keep you in my heart. I will always miss you, but I know, your in the best of care now. I still can't fathom, after all this time, that you are gone. I can still hear your voice saying "BATTALION...ATTENTION." For me those words hold a special meaning. I was your successor to the rank of C/LTC and I inherited the Battalion you left behind. Isn't it funny how time passes you by? One minute, you're on the bus coming from Thompson Middle School, the next, we're in the same Battalion in High School, and the next, we're both training in Fort Leonard Wood, MO....headed to Fort Hood. The blow is still as shocking today as it was so long ago. You are missed dearly Leslie.

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Leslie,
Last night in my dream you appeared with my mother. The dream was so real that I felt there was a connection. All morning I kept thinking about how my mother's laughter along with yours brought a smile to my face. I went searching on the internet to find the link between our worlds. I want to thank you for your military service and your ultimate sacrifice. You were young and so strong. My mother was a military wife for 20+ years, I'm sure in heaven she found you or you found her. Both of you are truly blessed to have so many people who love, care and miss you deeply. Thank you for the brief visit and for allowing me to learn more about you. Enjoy my mother's company she is an awesome angel.

Niecy,

I think about you always, your mom gave me some of your precious teddy bears and I keep them in my bedroom to remind me daily of the ultimate sacrifice you made for America that day in May 2004. My memories of you from an infant to the beautiful woman you became bring me comfort, when I think of you. You will always be my "Hero". I thank God, for the opportunity to see you again with the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Until that day, I celebrate your life and your memory lives on.

She was the first one to promote me in the Cadet Corps at George Wythe to the rank of C/SGT. After her graduation, she promoted me to C/MAJ. as I assumed command of the Battalion that she left behind. I would have loved for her to be here to promote me to SPC. in the United States Army. Even though you are not here, I know that you are smiling down from Heaven on everyone still on Earth. We know that you are proud of us, as we are of you. You made the ultimate sacrifice, a sacrifice which some of us could never repay. From Cadet to Soldier you've always been an inspiration to me. I never thought that I would be in the Army long enough to make SPC. You are still my inspiration even though you are gone. I love you and miss you very much.

Ms Jackson,
I am eternally grateful to you for the precious gift that you gave so many of us. Leslie is truly an American Hero. She is with our Heavenly Father now, but it will be a glorious day when we all get re-united. Thank you so very much. You are always in my prayers.

To a Soldier who gave everything she had. You laid down your life so that the rest of us may enjoy ours. You have entered the gates of heaven, and even though we know where you are, you are still missed here on Earth. As my former Company Commander, and Battalion Commander, it hurts me still to this day to know that you're not here. To one great commander of GWHS and soldier in the US Army, from someone who has followed your footsteps, we love you and miss you.

Ms. Jackson,

I cannot express the very sincere thanks to you for letting Leslie share in the lives of all of the George Wythe Cadets. She is truly an inspiration, and her memory will live on.

Wow, I still can't believe it's been so long since I last saw that beautiful smile on your face. When you came to George Wythe to tell us that you were going overseas, I never thought that I would be following in your exact same footsteps. From being the Batallion Commander, to serving the people of the United States in the US Army. I too will be deploying from Fort Hood soon, and everyday as my deployment day comes closer, I think about the sacrifice that you made for our freedom, and soon I will be making that same sacrifice. We love and miss you SPC. Leslie Jackson, C/LTC. Jackson (GWHS-2003).

To Ms. Jackson,

We will continue to keep you uplifted in our prayers, and keep you in our thoughts.

Leslie,

Still every other day I cry at the simplest thought of you. Who knew that we would become so close in those 3 months that were together in Basic Training. Leslie girl, I miss you terribly it never crossed my mind that you would beat me to my Heavenly Fathers home. You've finished your race, your where I'm striving and fighting each and every day along my day to day walk with Christ. I walk with Christ in the spirit you walk with him in his presence (so jealous) I pray that when I've finished my Christian Journey that our Heavenly Father will allow you to be one of the loved ones that will greet me at his gates. I know that we weren't related at all, but when you left I felt like I lost a sister, a friend, a part of me. I love you Leslie and I'll remember you for the rest of my life.
