Michael Riley I'm not sure if you remember me but I remember you very well. I was one of CC friends back home. He loved you so much, talked about you all the time in his letters. There's not a day goes by that something doesn't remind me of him. Especially now I know he would be so heart broken to hear about Carrie & momma Judy.

It took me 5 years to come to grips with the loss of Charles Clayton. Its crazy how, i sacrificied my life and was only wounded, he sacrificed his life and it cost him just that. In todays times i wish me and him could talk. We never held our tongues with one another. We didnt see color. We saw respect, trust and loyalty.
We will meet in the next life brother!

I love and miss you each day.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of you. And as your sister I'm taking after your foot steps to go into the army. I wish one day that someone will look up to me as I look up to you. I love you more and wish I could remember more than just seeing you at your graduation in Georgia. I love you and hope to see you one day again.

Most of you know him as PFC. Charles Persing an amazing soldier. I know him as C.C. my closest n dearest friend in middle school n high school and I would cook him cheeseburger helper 4x's a night n the silly fun loving guy that stole my Oreo's at night. He was the first person I knew to join the Army n go to war. When we got the news it was the hardest thing I've ever been thru in my life but it gave me some comfort to know he died for our country, freedom and something he loved n passionate about other than basketball and his friends. He was truly an amazing person and friend. He had our back no matter what. There isn't a day that doesn't go by I don't think of him or pray for him. You can't forget an amazing soul like him. He will always live on thru his friends and family. And he will never be forgotten. We always have our Oreo's lol. Love you C.C. forever in my heart

CC,
You were one of the few people I could count on when I arrived in FT. Drum. I remember the day we left MEPs then the day we met back up in Drum. Me You and R. I remember when I arrived and was standing outside on the steps at 10th Replacement you shouted "It's Babooski" I also remember staying out in Governor just the four of us and we drove around Ft. Drum for like an hour looking for the 24hr that was only a mile away the whole time, Good times and Good memories will never be forgotten...You will forever be in my heart. You are a true American Hero.
Babooski.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Charles, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

I am SGT Dale T. Lloyd's father who was CC's team leader in Iraq and also lost his life in the same attack. I have met many of his fellow soldiers that served with them in the days since then and they all share the same deep respect for CC and Dale. CC, I never met you in person but have so much respect for you for your sacrifice, the words of your fellow soldiers and the people from Albany, LA when I paid my respects to you by representing my son in a visit to your home town in August 2004. Dale sent pictures from Iraq of you and him. Your teamates all agreed that both of you made life over there so much easier with the sence of humor you guys had. Also the respect they have for being a soldier they are very proud to have served with. God bless your family, friends, and all the people from Albany that showed me so much hospitality on my visit. Hopefully in the spring of 2006 I will be able to return again.

Charles Persing was my best friend and will remain in my heart and a part of me for the rest of my life. He was a great example for many of us and will always be. I was in the 1-32nd Infantry BN. in Fort Drum, NY. So I got to spend some time with Persing in Iraq and was there when "it" happened. May God bless you all and keep you well in remembering our friend, brother, comrade, and hero. PFC CHARLES CLAYTON PERSING
