Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Carl L. Anderson Jr. US Air Force Airman 1st Class.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

To Those I Loved And To Those Who Loved Me:
When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do.
You must not tie yourself to me with tears, Be thankful for our beautiful years.
I gave to you my love, you can only guess, how much you gave to me in happiness,
I thank you for the love you each have shown, But now it's time I traveled alone.
So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must. Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a time that we must part, So, bless the memories within your heart.
I won't be far away, for life goes on, So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near, All my love around you soft and clear.
And then, when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and say, "Welcome Home."

Today I saw a photo of your son's bedroom in "The Shrine Down The Hall." I was immediately impressed by its neatness and order, his picture by the doorway, his encyclopedias, family photos - everything precisely in its place awaiting his return. I cried as if I had known your son. The world is a lesser place in which to live without this handsome, popular young man. God bless you.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Wow, I can't believe it has been 4 years since that night. I remember that horribly hot day that we first landed in Iraq, the unit we were replacing had just lost one of their own but we all thought that wouldn’t happen to us; we were trained and prepared, and we all were suppose to come home… I had never felt so many emotions all at once when they told us. I was so angry and felt incredibly useless. It was so final. You were gone and there was nothing we could do. We wanted to get our team together to go out on the road and bring your team back to base but they wouldn’t let us. They said it was too dangerous and we couldn’t afford anymore casualties. We lost one of our brothers that night and the hole in my heart for you is still there. When I went back to Iraq in 2006, I drove the road that you were on that dreadful night and I thought of you. I think about you and your family and I pray for you all often. I’m leaving next week for my third tour of convoy duty and I know you’ll be watching over us as we travel those roads. Always in my thoughts and prayers, God bless you, my brother in arms.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

To the family of Carl L. Anderson Jr.,
Your family member may be gone but never forgotten. To me he was a brave young man whose life was to short. I am a 9th grader at my school who is doing a paper on this young man. From what I have read he was a people person and loved his family dearly. To the parents i would like to say you both have raised a fine young man. And to his sister keep your head up and stand strong not only for you and your family but for your brother as well. Tell his story and never forget his legacy because I know I wont. I may not have known him face to face but his story has bought me closer than any meeting face to face can.
Thank you I will keep your family in mind.

I am currently serving as a SrA in the Air Force and lately I have been having trouble remembering why I serve, so I decided to buy a memorial bracelet honoring someone else in the Air Force who was killed in action, to remind me why I do what I do. I got Carl's name, with the date he died sent to me and I wear it every single day. I didn't know Carl when he was alive, but we did have something in common, we believed in something bigger than ourselves. I am very very proud to wear my bracelet and I hope that nobody ever forgets why we do what we do. My thoughts will be with the Anderson family always.

Its been 2 years and it is still so hard to believe that you are gone bro...I was with you to the end bro. There are times i wish i was driving that night and you were gunning instead...but its been so hard to except what happened... We spent a lot of time just talking about life and what we were going to do when we got back to Elmendorf AFB, AK. Its hard to believe that you were taken and not me or Helmick. We feel so lucky cause it really should of been all three of us... Not a day goes by that i dont think about 29 August 2004, the night we got hit. You were my home boy from the day i got to Elmendorf and you'll be my boy till the day i die. I know you'll always be in our hearts and watching over us when we least expect it. You were not only a great friend CJ but and amazing person and i am honored to have served with you. Your missed greatly bro and i still talk about the crazy stuff we use to do when we lived in the dorms and hung out. For your mother, father, and two sisters...I had the honor to meet you all at Elmendorf, and sit down and talk with you all at our shop when you came up for the Anderson Circle Street Sign Dedication Ceremoney. Myself and TSgt. Helmick were honored to meet the family of our good friend who was taken from us. My wishes and support go out to you and it was a honor meeting you all. I'm so sorry for you lose but know that Carl was a great person and amazing friend. When i return from Afghanistan I plan on coming up to S.C. to meet with CJ again at his grave. I at least owe him that. Dear Anderson Family,
You will continue to be in my prayers. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about Carl. I know that where he's at- he will be looking down apon you and be your guardian angel. Carl, Darren and I were really close. Carl was like a brother to me. He helped me to join the Armed Forces. Everyday that I am in the Air Force and I feel like things are hard- I think about what Carl would do in that situation. His drive and determination inspired me to keep moving. I have kept your family in my prayers. May God continue to bless you and put your hearts at ease. I can't begin to imagine how you must feel. Most people say pain goes away with time. I don't believe that. I feel the same way I felt almost two years ago when I first heard of his death. Carl, I hope you like it up there. Maybe we will meet when it's my time to come to Heaven!

When I first spoke to the Anderson Family, during a very trying time, Carl's dad said to me, "we tried to raise our son right, how did he turn out, how do people feel about him, what do they think of him?" I assured him that CJ is loved and he demonstrated love to others. He said, "we are praying for you troops in the war." Just today, I saw US Army, Maj Gen (retired)Batiste on TV and thought of Carl. The General was in Mosul at the Memorial Service, paying respect to Carl. I shall never forget Carl. I was his squadron commander; 732 Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron, Balad AB Iraq

I CANT STILL SAY TODAY IM SORRY FOR YOUR LOST. IM NOT SAYING NOW I KNOW HOW IT FEELS WHEN YOU LOSE SOMEONE, B/C IT STILL HURTS ME TO THINK ABOUT HIS DEATH. IT WAS GOOD JUST BEING ABLE TO SEE HIM AGAIN.JUST RECENTLY I LOST MY BROTHER, DUE TO HYPERTENION AND IT KILLS ME EVERYDAY TO THINK ABOUT THE MATTER. HE WAS ONLY 26YRS OLD. I KNOW WHAT YOU ALL ARE FEELING. IM STILL SORRY FOR THE LOST OF SON, AND BROTHER.

I ordered a POW/MIA/KIA bracket and it came with Carl's name on it. I wear it everyday - many people have asked about it - my simple reply is - he died for us.

On this, the anniversary of my Cousin's death, I would like to say that he is still very missed by our entire family. And my prayers go out to my Aunt and Uncle, Rev. & Mrs. Carl Anderson, Carletta, and Kimaro as they pay tribute to Carl, Jr. in Alaska today. Even though we all could not be there with them in person, we are all with them in spirit. We love you all very much.

Pastor and Mrs. Anderson and daughters,
On this, the, (almost), one year anniversary of Carl's passing, I wanted to take a minute and try to do what I have found to be impossible before now.
Say good-bye.
My name is MacKenzie and I was the civilian in the Commander's Support Staff at 3LRS. It was my pleasure to know and work with Carl. He was one of the first troops I got to bring into the Squadron, just after I started there in Feb 02, and I was one of the last to see him before he left.
In the three years we worked together, Carl never set foot into our office that he didn't have a smile on his face; didn't really lay on his "Southern accent"; and didn't laugh at my sometimes awful jokes. He never failed to pull out that smooth southern style and say (insert smooth, easy and southern here), "Hello Miss MacKenzie." It brought a smile to my face every time.
Carl had a smile that could out shine the sun; a personality that could fill a room and the courage of a Lion.
I miss him every single day.
Cj, You will never be forgotten. I know you are leading the Angels in chorus right now, singing songs of Praise and Glory, and even that, gladdens my heart.
Good-bye my friend.
In His Holy Name,
Zie

I want to say first of all how proud of this young man and I'm so very sorry for his families loss. I want the family to know that I am very proud of each and every person who fights for our rights here and gives us the freedom to live like we live. I have a brother right now serving in Kwait and I worry each and every day for him and everyone over there. I want to say that you have a very special place in my heart and thank you very much.

Dear Anderson Family: I am always saddened by the loss of an Air Force family member, yet I want to thank you for sharing AIC Carl Anderson with the United States Air Force. His commitment, dedication, and true patriotic ideals are the necessary attributes we seek in all of our men and women to assure democracy, freedom, and the security of this great nation and its people. Carl truly exemplified our core values of integrity, service before self, and excellence in all we do and I'm proud to have served with Carl. His loss is great and he will surely be missed.
