John LeGrande Vereen III

John LeGrande Vereen III, passed away peacefully Tuesday November 4, 2025, at his home in Pawleys Island.
Born in Hamlet, NC, John is the son of Phyllis Pittman Vereen and the late Johnie Vereen, Jr.
A Pawleys Island native and a member of the Pawleys Island Community Church, John graduated from Georgetown High School and received a bachelor's degree from Johnson & Wales Culinary School in Charleston, SC.
John was a man of many passions. He loved cooking and coming up with creative dishes. He loved being outdoors, whether on the beach, a surfboard in the ocean, the woods or by a fire in the yard listening to music.
He will be remembered for his lopsided smile, passion for cooking, pulling for his "Tarheels", and his love for his family, children and friends and of course his beloved "Waylon".
In addition to his father, John is preceded in death by his stepmother, Miriam Watson Vereen.
Survivors include his mother, Phyllis Pittman Vereen; daughter, Bailey Kathleen Vereen – Pickering and her husband, Brandon Pickering; son, Chandler Julian Vereen; brother, Justin Shannon "Scooter" Vereen and his wife, Penny Blanton Vereen; sister, Julie Crystal Vereen; several nieces and nephews; mother of Bailey and Chandler, Josey Vereen.
A Celebration of John's Life will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday November 9, 2025, at Burroughs Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet. The family will receive friends at 201 Sundial Dr, S. Litchfield following the service.
