Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Marc, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

My thoughts are always with you but today the day has been full of memories. I am not sure if I told you but Lance was very impressed with Marc and his driving ability. Lance told me of times when he wasn't sure how Marc got them out of the situations they found themselves in while on the streets of Ramadi, Iraq. Today, as always I remember I our sons with pride. I remember their love of family and country. God bless you. Semper Fi

Mr. and Mrs. Ryan,
My wife and I were at the retirement of Marc's Jersey. I can truly say that I am a better person for knowing your son. A tremendous person, a tremendous athlete and a wonderful friend. I continue to carry a letter in my brief case that Marc wrote me from bootcamp. I have numerous pictures from trips we took both to the zoo and to the oudoor show in Phila. Marc was and continues to be an inspiration. The dedication and retirment of his jersey was well deserved. Gloucester City was a great part of my life and my career, the people there truly look out for each other and take care of one another, that is rare these days. Marc will always be in my thoughts and prayers, and remembered as one of the greatest students I have ever had. His senior year after his last football game he took a scull and crossbones sticker and a lion paw sticker off his helmet and gave them to me. They remain in the corners of my computer monitor and stories of Marc are always available in my office. I speak to young kids about him whenever I can. I'm not sure you knew how he touched my life in so many ways. Please take care and thank you for raising a most amazing son.

October 24, 2007

Marc,
I was thinking of you lately and from what I read in the local paper your still being remembered properly. I'm still trying to find a date when your monument will be presented so I can be there. The other day I was at the Philadelphia Zoo and I was looking at the Monkeys with my Wife and kids. The strangest thing happened! While I was standing in the crowd of people, I saw the back of someones tee shirt with your name on it! and the shirt was about remembering those that have fallen. I approached that gentlemen and let him know that I served with you, and that I'm glad to see that your still being remembered.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Our Star

I ventured out this morning, to face

the eastern sky

To see Our Lords greatness, the sun

as it would rise

A single star greeted me, you had to

see it to believe

Astrals all aglowing, was all there

was to see

Sparkling spikes of memories

From those that we had known

Such a beautiful reminder...

that we don't walk alone.

Dear Ryan Family,

Words can't express how deeply sorry we are for the loss of your son and brother Marc. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all in this time of sorrow.

Marc is a great example of a "DEDICATED SOLDIER". He paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. He is a true American Hero. Thank you Marc for your sacrifice so that we can remain a free nation. We will never forget you Marc.

As parents of 7, two of our sons went to school with Marc and will remember him as a true friend and hero. Our son Mark will never forget the one hit he took from Marc. He said he hit him so hard that his face mask broke off his helmet. They will miss his friendship.

Our youngest son is just starting his military career in the Army. We will be going through those same fears for his safety as he leaves for Iraq in 2005. We cry with you and pray for you, as we do for our son, knowing he too will be in harms way.

We know that Marc is a Proud Marine serving God in Heaven and that he is watching over all of us from up above. He is an Angel who never sleeps. His work is never done. May you feel his warmth and presence all around you.

May God Bless you all in this difficult time.

God Bless You, Corporal Marc Tyler Ryan. Marc you will truely be missed. We are all so proud of you.

Marc, your star will forever shine in the night skies. You are our "HERO".

With Our Deepest Sympathy. As requested by your family we are sending in a contribution to the scholarship fund that has be established to honor you.

On behalf of the membership of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 825 South Jersey I wish to express our condolences for the loss of your son. As veterans, we are all too familiar with the hardships this loss brings to the many friends and family members of those who have given their final measure of devotion to their country. We are very fortunate to live in a country that produces young men and women ready to voluntarily risk their lives in places like Iraq and Afghanistan to spread the opportunity of freedom and to protect our own. We all need to thank them for doing this, to thank their families who also sacrifice so much and to remember those who have paid the ultimate price for the ideals of our great nation.

November 29, 2004

May you find comfort in your memories and support from those who surround you.

There is no greater sacrafice than life itself. Marc will always be remembered for the amazing man he was and the HERO he has become.

Where ever you go, whatever you do--Marc will always be in heaven watching over you.

Marc is a well known, loved and a great inspiration to all whose lives he may have touched. I am sure his pure sacrifices to save or spare just one childs life were not in vain. In fact, I know Marc's sacrifices will shed a different insight into LCPL Nate Reep on his next tour of duty in Iraq. I cannot know what you must be facing at this time, but I have prayed for you and will continue to do so. I know that God will give you the strength to go forward one day at a time.

I have been reading through the letters of sympathy that you have received so far. I am touched by how much Marc was loved. He was obviously a very warm and wonderful friend to many.

Though I never knew him, I owe him my thanks. He paid the ultimate price for me and my family. I want you to know that I don't take something like that lightly. I am honored to have had such a brave man out in this world fighting on my behalf. What he did will not be forgotten. He bore his cross with honor.

My son was with 2/4 and he called me tell me about Cpl Ryan. His name is Lt Lucas Wells and he was so upset about your son. We knew Cpl Ryan had reupped and my son explained about it and I could tell how his heart was broken.

Please know we are all praying for your strength to make it through this time. You have every reason to be proud of Cpl Ryan and all Americans appreciate yours and his sacrifice.

We will continue to think of you and will never forget Cpl Ryan's contribution to our safety.

God Bless You.

Dear Ryan Family,

I attended Wesley College with Marc and just wanted his family to know how much fun he was in school. He always had a smile on his face and would talk to anyone about anything. I'm proud that I was able to know him even for a short time frame. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. I feel very fortunate to know that such a upstanding man fought for my freedom.

It is with a heavy heart that I send my deepest condolences. Knowing Marc went back, as your son Chris has said, because his brother Marines were being killed and he had to do something about it only reinforces what I already knew, that the bond of brothers in combat is stronger than the safety of oneself. You cannot ask more of anyone than to give ones life for his brothers.

I also want to share an incident with you that brings a smile to me. Marc and my son Johnny were on the Mustangs and during a linemens drill Marc was absolutely mauling Johnny. Johnny was a little upset as he thought what Marc was doing was illegal. When the drill was over Marc said to Johnny " Sorry, Green's that's just football" with a big smile.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I am writing to express my profound gratitude for heroes such as your son and brother, Corporal Marc Ryan, and for the families that raise such men. I also want to extend great sympathy for your loss. It is important for me to acknowledge that the goodness I have in my life exists only through the courage and infinite service of men like Marc. The level of gratitude in my heart and the honor I give your family is heartfelt and deep. I hope my gratitude can somehow come close to Marc’s love for the people of this nation because “Greater love hath no man than this that he would lay down his life for his friends”.

Your son’s service was all that he could give. In this respect, he followed in the steps of Christ who freed all mankind. I love you and your family for this gift laden with sorrow and I hope to rejoice with you when you behold his face and hug him on a more beautiful day.

I served in the U.S. Army for 20 years but was not called, in the purposes of God, to bear the burdens of your son. I pray for success in the cause for which he gave his life and for spiritual comfort of your family. God bless you and all those who continue to serve this nation.

As requested by your family, I am sending a contribution to the scholarship fund established to honor Marc.
