Virginia Ryan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory - Lynnhaven Chapel on Feb. 28, 2026.
Virginia "Ginne" Ryan passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 24, 2026. She was born January 21, 1949 in Sedalia, Missouri, as the only child of Everett and Sylvia stump. Growing up she became skilled in several sports and playing the piano, while also serving as the chief editor of her high school yearbook.

57 years ago, Ginne married the love of her life, Larry, who was also from the same hometown. Throughout the years, they were inseparable and always best friends, sharing a lifelong love of playing competitive tennis and bridge (ruby life master), travelling, and going to movies and Broadway plays.

Ginne was a proud and loving mother, who cherished her strong bond with her son Chris, even becoming a super-fan of UVA sports after he attended college there! She was inquisitive, kind, and thoughtful, and loved conversing, laughing, and spending time with family and friends. Ginne was a strong and resilient woman who faced many adversities, including breast cancer twice, diabetes, and heart disease, with a rare combination of quiet endurance and grace.

Ginne is survived by her devoted husband, Larry, son Chris, daughter-in-law, Christine, and grandson Carter Everett Ryan. She touched the lives of everyone she met with her selflessness and generous spirit. Ginne leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family. She will be always remembered and sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Memorial services for Ginne will be held Tuesday March 3, 2026 at 11:30am at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, for anyone wishing to attend. A private burial for family will be held at a later date. Condolences and/or fond memories may be shared with the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.

In light of Ginne's love of children and experience as a cancer survivor, the family would appreciate donations on her behalf to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in lieu of flowers. Donations may be made at: https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html
