Another year without you in our lives...in fact eleven years and it still seems like yesterday.
Your smile and personality filled a room when you walked in and we all miss your dynamic way of making everyone feel like your best friend...never will know how you did it but I don't think that you ever forgot a person's face.
The tree is up and the lights are on but they don't have the same glow and excitement that they did with you in our lives.
Miss and love you but know that you are surrounded with brothers in arms...
By the way, there are now six new arrivals in heaven who on the same day you entered eternity they joined you and the others - I hope you and the others recieved them well and in grand style.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Melo Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Julian was a good friend of mine at Ft. Lewis, WA with the 1/33 AR BN. I'll always remember the tight ship he ran in the supply room, but the moment he befriended you, you never wanted for anything...including a good friend. Quick with a smile, he was able to remind us all that nothing was ever as bad as it seemed.

I'll miss you, old pal.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Julian, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the family and friends,
I am so so very sorry for you loss. There are no words to express how hard this must be. I wanted to let you know about a memorial I am working on to honor the soldiers from the New York City Area. I am creating a quilt with a panel for each fallen soldier. I am trying to contact the families to invite them to create their loved one's panel. If you are interested please contact me at [email protected]

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Norma,

I wanted to offer my condolences on your loss. I was called by my ex-wife last night and told to watch CNN because you were on talking about Julian. He is a HERO, and will not be forgotten. You and your family were our neighbors in the duplex up on the hill at Fort Lewis and babysitted for us many times. My heart is heavy in the knowledge of another buddy that has lost his life in this war. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers always and forever. God bless you and your children.

Norma,

Your husband was my Platoon Sgt from 1999-2000. I was devastated to hear that he lost his life. Julian was like a father to me. He trained me and helped guide me to become the person I am today. He is a real hero and I will miss him. I never got the chance to thank him for his guidance. I was shocked to see this tribute to him and I felt is was necessary for me to offer my sympathy. Thank you and whom ever created this.

Norma,

You don't know me, but I met your husband a few days before he was killed. I am an Army broadcaster, and I was shooting christmas greetings.

SSG Melo practically dragged me into his living quarters to see his little christmas tree, decorated with froot loops on a string. It was great!

I filmed him decorating, and talking about what the season meant for him away from his family. You could tell that he was so full of love for you and your family.

I left him that day with a huge smile on my face. I had never met someone who was so engaging, and had such a love of life. He was truly remarkable.

I still have the raw footage I shot that day. I made cuts from it and put it on a DVD for his command to send to you at the time, but I want to make sure you got it, and if not, or if you want the raw footage, feel free to send me an email.

Norma,

My deepest sympathy and my family sends you our condolences. I recently was looking at the Fallen Heroes site and was floored to see Julian's picture and story of his death. Julian worked for me at Fort Lewis when I was the S4 NCOIC for 1-33 Armor. He was a fine man and a great soldier. He will be missed by everyone who new him. I still can not believe this. He was one of the finest NCO's it was my pleasure to serve with in my twenty year career. He was always there and made every mission happen. My family and I share with you in this time of loss and sorrow.

Dearest Norma,

My prayers and my heart go out to you, my dear and lovely friend. Although I never got to meet Julian, I know that he was a wonderful man because of the woman he married. Please know that I send my hugs and comfort as I write this. May your faith bring you peace and comfort. May your heart know that Julian is a hero and that you will be with him again. Remember always that he loved you and Josh. I pray that God will bring you peace, comfort, and assurance at this most difficult time, and may Julian's light always shine brightly. I pray blessings for you always.
