Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Finke Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

6 years ago today I received the worst news of my life. 2 Marines in dress blues stood on my doorstep and delivered the news that my son was dead. That day seems like yesterday, like only minutes have passed. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of you Mike. Please continue to watch over me and Nadine.

Another Memorial Day has come and gone and I think of Mike and all those who have served and who have sacrificed for all of us living in the greatest land of the free. It has been just over five years without you, some days are still hard for no reason other then I lost a true love. I think of Mike every time I see our beautiful American flag flying in the wind, remembering what it represented to him. You will never be forgotten and your memory tucked away in that part of my heart that is untouchable.

I served with Mike from 1997-2001 in Kilo Company 3/1 and I considered him a good friend. We lost touch after I left the Corps but I will always remember laughing with him at battalion working parties during the summer of '99. He was one of the most genuinely friendly guys I've ever known and I will miss him.

I found your guest book after your father wrote in my son's, Lcp Tony Hernadez, guest book. I am going to assume that you were one of the passengers that Tony and his crew were transferring to another station. I am sorry for your family's loss and know that they are being looked after by all 31 brothers as my family is. May God bless you.

Seeing all of the people Michael has touched and seeing all the websites and rememberances for each fallen soldier says a lot about our country. I am student at Wadsworth High School and I am doing a history report of Iraq/ Afghanistan soldiers in our area. I found that Mciahel was from Rittman I hoping to come in contact with his family in order to correctly tell of Michael and his background. I didn't know Michael but he appears to be a homefront hero.

Father we entrust our brother Michael to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Michael in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

My son had just left for extra training before leaving for Iraq when I heard of your loss. He too was 28, a Proud Marine and his name was "God Like"- Michael.
I attended your son's funeral for many reasons even though I did not know him or his family. I just felt I need to be there. On May 8th (Mother's Day) I received word that I lost my Michael too. After seeing the grace in how you handled your Michael's service, I knew I could follow in another Marine mom's shoes. Although this is a rough road, I am a little relieved knowing our boys are guarding the gates of heaven and watching over us. Semper Fi. And sorry the loss of your Michael.
Hugs,

Your audio message, was very special Mr Finke.
May God's Peace be with you and your loved ones.

Having lost a daughter suddenly and having lost a 19 year old brother to war, I know the pain, you have and still are, experiencing.
I know the pride you have in Michael, to be the same as remains with me, for my brother, David, who was killed in action, 41 years ago this December, in Vietnam.

Michael is an American Hero and like my brother, He Will Never Be Forgotten, by those of us who truly know that "Freedom isn't Free"

My thoughts and prayers remain with your family.

New to the FMF, but not to the Corps, I was on my way to report to 2nd Battalion 4th Marines at Camp Pendleton after a 2 year stint with M.C. Security Forces. I stop by my, then fiancé’s work to say goodbye to her when one of her co-workers came up to me and said that she was excited that I was going to Pendleton and that I might meet her cousin, Cpl. Finke. I laughed at the crazy woman as I had to let her know that Pendleton is about the size of Road Island and the likelihood of me running into her cousin was slim to none.

I report to 2/4 as I was supposed to, only to be turned away, that another Battalion needed a body more than they did. So I set off to meet my brothers at 3/1. I check in with the OOD and was quickly assigned to 1st Plt. Lima Co. and sent packin to meet the barracks NCO to check into my new home. I knock on the door and who should answer?..... Cpl. Finke.

Mike and I would talk time to time in the hallways about our experiences in the Corps, and I’d even catch’em at family gatherings in San Diego every once in a while.

Funny story: Battalion formation run (everyone loves those!) Finke, then still with Lima Co’s H.Q. Plt., was runnin in the trail end of the formation (as that was the designated spot for us short guys). I was called upon to lead my platoon with a running cadence. Naturally I chose a colorful cadence, one that I can’t fully disclose at this time, but it went something like this: “F. I. N. K. E.! Finke is kinky and so are we!”…. he turned around and laughed as he got a kick out of that.

We went on float as a part of the 13th MEUSOC on the USS Duluth in Aug, 2000 (I believe he was re-assigned to 3rd Plt). We’d bump into each other from time to time and check on how the other was doin, how our families were back home. We were in the Seychelles, just off the coast of Madagascar, when the USS Cole got hit. So together we were a part of Operation Determined Response and escorted the Fed’s to and from our ship to the Cole. We hit Thailand twice on the trip, 5 days out and 5 days commin back in where we’d occasionally see each other.

Just like most of my friends, I got out almost as soon as we got back in early 2001. I honestly can’t say I remember the last time I saw Cpl. Finke, only to say that he did leave an impression on me that he was truly one of the good guys with a good heart…. a good soul. I remember when his cousin, Lisa, had told us of his passing in Iraq. Now, up until that moment, I had not personally known anyone that had made the ultimate sacrifice. But all that changed after we got the phone call from Lisa, he had just been cleared to go home too and was only a couple weeks away.

Mike, I wish I could say that I would have been as brave as you buddy. God Bless you Marine. Semper Fi.

I can't imagine the pain the pride the hurt the proudness that a mother feels from a loss I have a son as well in the marines and he to went straight out of highschool he just returned home from Iraq and I don't know what I would have felt if he had not have came home I know the hurt is to much to understand but the proudness you must be as a mother has to out weigh any hurt possible thank-you so much for raising such a wonderful young man with such respect honor and discipline I didn't know your son but being part of the marine family I feel your son was my own love you Michelle King

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I served with Finke during his time in Kilo Company. He was a 0331 then got the cushy gig in HQ PLT, then off to 3rd plt where we got time to share when i got attached to his platoon.

I teased him when he got the post to Hawaii cuz thats my home state and its where i wanted to go.

Finke! Eyes like a cock-eyed cat. Bakey, Mohr, Pan, and I would go to Outback every now and then or just hang out drink a few and bs before he had to go home to his wife.

Everyday I would scan pages to make sure no one i knew had died. I prayed.

I was extremely disheartened to hear of his loss.

To heaven with arms spread.

Always remembered

See you when I see you Finke.

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!
