Lee, it's nine years late, but I just heard about your passing from your sister. May you rest in peace, and thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice. To me, you'll always be the kid who towered over me in neighborhood sports, dominated on the football field as a "Fox Hill Redskin" and played on the old Commodore 64 in your parents' house. God Bless!

To the Lewis family...

I feel weird that I am now just being hit by Lee's death. I guess it takes a certain amount of growing up before you realize what is really important in life. I remember Lee as being an honest man, very caring and respectful, even on the football field. Although, we never really hung out together, when we crossed paths we were always glad to see each other. I hope and pray that when our paths come together again, we can sit on a cloud somewhere and really get to know each other.

my condolences: Alonzo Yarbrough

Lee, Alvina and family ~ We continue to live in your debt for the ultimate sacrifice you and your loved ones paid for our freedoms. We think and speak of Lee often. I have a lily garden I transplant Easter lilies I bring home from church each year in. I named it" Lee's Lily Garden". I hope to get a plaque saying that put in this year. As I enjoy them I have Lee and all of The Lewis's close in my heart and thoughts. I will send you pics when they are in full bloom. With gratitude , respect and love, Anne Marie Wyckoff

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I had the honor of serving with Lee during Operation Iraqi Freedom

I was the gunner on Lee's truck in the platoon that Lee was attached to. He was a model soldier and even more so of a man, he and I often would talk about our daughters on those long convoys from Kuwait to Iraq. He would often talk about his daughter's singing voice, you could hear the pride in his voice. My condolences to his loved ones and his family. I have had no greater honor than to say that I served with such an outstanding man and I am very lucky to call him a friend. I wear your name across my wrist Lee and I will never remove it, you have taught me alot and I look foreward to shaking your hand when we meet again. I miss you Doc.

I have left my email, please feel free to use it. My best wishes and sincere appolgies.

How do I begin to express my condolences for such a wonderful family? I did not know Lee well, but I will always remember how much his sister Eola loved him and told funny stories about him in Art class. Please know that thousands of prayers and thoughts are with your family. Lee obviously loved his family as much as they loved him and I hope that everyone has a chance to experience that kind of love at least once in his/her life. Thank you, Lee, for being such a shining example of a true man. Thank you for your service and know we will think of you every day!

I was fortunate enough to be in the same platoon as PFC Lewis during our medical training at Ft. Sam Houston. Lee was a man of excellent character and heart. Funny and charismatic. Humorous and kind. To Lee's wife Telia and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis. I am just finding out about Lee's passing, and I want to extend my deepest condolences to his wife, and your entire family. Lee was a very good friend of mine, a best friend for many years throughout college and I will remember him always. Lee was one of the first people I met when I attended Virginia State University in the Fall of 1994. I had a feeling that he and I would become good friends and I was right. Lee and I were room-mates at VSU and at ODU. I transferred to Old Dominion Univ. shortly after Lee did and our friendship continued. Lee attended my graduation in 1999 and I attended his wedding in 2003. Lee was someone who was very kind, thoughtful, and loyal, the best kind of friend. He was someone who would give his last to help others, someone who constantly encouraged me to acheive my best and set an example for others. I miss Lee very much and I really hope that those who read this will know how deeply he will be missed. It's times like this that we all reflect and wish that we had of spent more time with our friends. I have so many fond memories of Lee, and he will be sorely missed. Telia, Justina, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Sr., and all of Lee's brothers and sisters I want you to know that I wish you the best and that you will all be in my prayers.

I am deeply sorry for your loss.

I knew Lee in Middle and High School. I was one of those who played football with him after school with a friend and many others. Lee will be missed by many, your grief is shared. I am glad to hear that Angels will welcome him home, as Lee deserves.

I am no poet, but I certainly wish I could say something that would ease his passing, but somehow I feel that if his passing was eased we would not be remembering him in the way he deserves.

He was loved, and his memory shall continue to be cherished.

I shall pray for God's Strength to lift you and carry you in the times you need him.

I met Pfc Lewis while at the Army combat medic school. It was easy to see that this man had two goals: do his job and take care of family. No one ever had a bad thing to say about his work, or him as a man. Definitely not the party type, he was a quiet man who quickly made a friend of everyone in the unit and carried himself in just the right way to get that respect without having to do anything but be himself.

Then, there are those who benefit from what they give. Nonetheless, we are all saddened at such a great loss of a man like him. I salute PFC Lewis and I pray he finds that his sacrifice has been deeply rewarded.

I just wanted to send my deepest sympathy to the Lewis family. I attend middle school and High school with Lee and there are alot things I will remember about him, but most of all I will remember his smile, his amazing singing voice and his can do attitude. I don't think there was anything Lee thought he couldn't do or any one else with commitment and hard work. God gave the world a special gift by allowing us to know Lee and some of us were especially blessed to have had personal memories of Lee that we will cherish long beyond his passing. I was very sad to hear this news of Lee, and given my own sense of loss, can only imagine that of those closest to him. My heart certainly goes out to the family. I have prayed for you. I truly hope loved ones continue to keep the faith, knowing that even in the midst of this, God is still sovereign. My love, Tina

I had the honor of working with Lee in the Central Business Office at Depaul Medical Center for couple of years. In that short time I found him to be a very kind and respectful young man. He was admired by all his co-workers, he will greatly missed.

Mr & Mrs Lewis and Family,

You have my deepest sympathy. As a youth coach my players were my extended family. I looked at Lee as the son I never had. If I would have had a son I would want him to grow up to be a man just like Lee. I am a better person for having Lee in my life. I love you Lee, You will never be forgotten.

A Friend

March 28, 2005

Mr. and Mrs Lewis,

I'm very very sorry for your loss. Lee was a good friend of mine in middle school and high school. He used to come over after school and we'd play football together with the guys in a field at the intersection of Mercury Blvd and King St. I have nothing but fond and positive memories of Lee. I have tremendous respect for the man that he was and the service he gave to our country. More importantly though, it warms and comforts my heart to learn that he was a strong Christian man. I know that God called Lee home in His perfect timing, but I wish I would have had the opportunity to see him again. I have a video tape of a class presentation that we put together during our Freshman year of High School. It shows Lee and a couple of our friends acting out a spoof of Caeser. If you would like a copy, please don't hesitate to email me. I'll never watch that video in the same way again. May God bless and comfort your family.

Dear Lewis Family,

Please accept my sincerest sympathy at the loss of your son, PFC Lee Lewis, Jr. My husband, 1LT Tim Page, was Lee's Platoon Leader and was with him on March 18th's mission on the streets of Sadr City, Baghdad. The loss of your son has hit 3rd Platoon and the 3rd Infantry Division very hard. I can't tell you how sorry I am. I hope you're comforted in knowing that your son was admired by many as a good soldier, medic, father, husband, and friend. We all enjoy freedoms sought after by many, because of men like PFC Lewis. May God's infinite grace surround you in your time of need.

In his grip,

James Calhoun, Jr.

To the Lewis Family,

When I departed Virginia in 1983 for the military, Lee Arthur Lewis was just a youngster but he was growing up in the same neighborhood, "That makes him Family in my book". To Neomi, and Gina, remember Lee Arthur as a soldier, always! He is now marching in the Army of the Lord. May God Bless your Family.

Lee's smile

God truly blessed us by bringing PFC Lee A. Lewis Jr into our lives at the precious age of six Memorial Day weekend 1983. This photo was taken at The Lewis home at the dinner Mrs. Lewis had invited us to. We were meeting the entire family for our first time as my sister was dating Lee's brother. What I remember most about Lee is captured in this photo. "His Smile", it reflected his inner emotions. He didn't say a lot that day he didn't need to. Sitting like the perfect lil boy at the table just listening to all the stories being told and the laughs being shared by his siblings. Yet every time I looked over at Lee he would just beam with "this smile". I knew without Lee saying a word the smile reflected how loved he felt, how special he felt, how proud he was to be a part of this family. My last memory of Lee was at our (Lee's and My ) nephews graduation party in June of 2003. in Va. We hugged and said it had been too long, He beamed "that smile" as he introduced his beautiful wife Teliah and daughter Justina. Once more "that smile " revealing how proud he felt introducing this beautiful woman as his wife, "that smile" expressing his inner feelings. We enjoyed our lunch reminiscing and catching up. To The Entire Lewis family we share in your loss with heartfelt grief. Forever in our thoughts and prayers. Anne Marie, Bill, Natalie and Bryce Wyckoff

My prayers go out to the family of Lee. I knew him back in high school and I will never forget how genuine and compassionate he was. I was taken back to hear of this tragedy. I just completed my time in service with the US Army, and I'll not only remember him as a friend but appreciate him as a fellow soldier.

Lee was a genuine soul. He blessed us all during his time in the world. May you all have peace in your hearts that he is in a place far better and more beautiful than this and know that he is making room for the rest of us. But until we meet again, I know that I have another angel to watch over me as he did while he was here.

May God be with you all,

The Lewis Family,

I met Lee when I moved to Virginia in the seventh grade and knew him all through high school to be an energetic, happy-go-lucky young man who made everyone who new him smile and laugh. Although I was never terribly close to Lee I felt a loss to learn of the sacrifice he made. My thoughts, prayers and heart-felt sorrow are with you during these times.
