Still not forgotten....

June 8, 2014

Another year. I begin to look at the pictures on Lou's Memorial and grow sad. But then I realize that sadness is not what Lou would want us to live with. He would want us to live with joy and happiness. LIVE! Life is precious and we owe it to Lou to live life at it's fullness. God bless his family. We will remember. Lou Rules!

It's so hard to realize that Lou has been gone for eight years now. Eight years that Lou could have spent with his wife and children, Mom, Dad, brothers and sisters and others who loved him. We have the memories. We have four young children that will need love and direction in their lives. Hold tight to them for they are his legacy. Yes, we will never forget and the heart will always ache for Lou. Take care my friends. A thanks to the family for sharing him with us.

Whoever said time heals all wounds is sadly mistaken. After 8 years the wound goes so deep it will never heal. My shattered heart will never be put together because there will always be a piece missing.
The phone call from 8 years ago is always going through my mind. The thoughts of what you went through never go away. I cringe at the word closure because there is no such thing.
I miss you every single day. Some days I still feel like screaming and throwing things.
I love you Louis with all my heart.

Many heroes fall during battle
this fight for freedom often costs
these men and women we send to foreign shores
often it these lives that are lost

but they will not be forgotten
we honor those souls that slip away
and know that they've become angels
In heaven, on this day

The memory of them lives on
as we sleep we see their face
the dreams seem so very real
we often imagine their warm embrace

God has given them free reign
to whisper gently to the trees
to glide effortlessly among the clouds
and dry your tears with a breeze

So as long as we are alive
we will hold them in our hearts
and as long as we can breathe
our heroes will never be apart

So as we bury you with honor
we will grieve, then heal & pray
and even though we'll miss you you
we'll be reunited in heaven one day

Six abreast come marching,
With boots and brasses glow,
Each in step with the time,
Their movements seem to flow.

Slowly they move down the ramp,
A truly perfect stride,
With chins up and backs straight,
It would well you up with pride.

But there are no smiles on this parade,
No crowed applauding,
Just silence and tears on cheeks,
The families in their mourning.

The burden on their khaki shoulders,
Is carried with utmost care,
For inside lays a soldier lost,
And the life the he did share.

They place him within the Hurst,
For a procession through the streets,
With salutes shown and colours bowed,
To the sound of marching feet.

Forever we shall remember,
That that have not returned,
For freedom is never given,
But in blood it is always earned

My name is SSG Christopher Hart, I was one of several Medic's at FOB Danger, the night of the incident that lead to the death of LT Louis Allen. As he was being treated for multiple wounds I asked him,"Is there any thing you want to say?" He replied, "please tell my wife and boys I love them." Then He gave me his watch. I would like to give it back to his wife and sons. Please let me know the best way I can get his watch home to you. [email protected]

Well Lou, it is the night before our 2nd annual Wing Fling remembering you. What I wouldn't give to be with you raising a glass, instead of toasting your memory. So much has happened between the horrendous trial and personal things for my family, that I havent had time to reflect on things. I guess that is good because at this particular moment I feel extreme pain and want so badly to talk to you, laugh with you, have a beer with you. How could we possibly have ended up here? You will always remain in my heart, and I would give anything to hear your laugh and see your goofy smile.

Lou, another dark day for the people that love you. I am again devastated by this news. I feel such overwhelming sadness and I can simply not comprehend the pain this is causing your family. I know you are in heaven, no doubt with some special status they give to the really good people. I pray with all my heart you find a way to give peace and strength to your family. Justice will be served, either here or in the next life, it is only a matter of time.

Mr Allen - -

We thought of you with love today
but that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday.
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories
and your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake,
with which we'll never part.
God has you in his keeping;
we have you in our heart. ?

& that is something nobody can take away. The end results of the trial has left a heavy feeling in my heart that I am not sure how to handle it. Not a day goes by that I don't think about you, I often find myself laughing - because I am remember a memories of lunch times spent in your classroom singing TLC, playing solitaire & or our quest to collect enough Mt Dew caps we could each get a shirt [which of course we succeeded at & I no longer like the taste of Mt Dew; but do have a nice shirt - it was worth it!]. You taught me about science, about life, friendship & relationships, and pursuing your dreams and staying true to yourself. You were an amazing teacher & a great role model to me. I frequently find myself reading this website and am amazed how many lifes you touched; but then again I am not surprised - because in just four years at George F. Baker you impacted my life in ways that I could never thank you enough for. I hope one day I am make half the difference in someone elses life that you made in my. Watch over your family and give them strength during this difficult time.

[& thank you - for everything.]

Its interesting what people remember.

During a school lock-down drill over three and a half years ago Lou assured some of our anxious kitchen ladies, "Don't worry, I'm here and I'll protect you."

In the days after 9/11/2001 Lou went to Ground Zero in NYC to protect us.

Lou went to Iraq to protect us.

Lou died in Iraq with honor protecting us.

We're not worried Lou, we know that you're still here to protect and comfort us, even in our darkest days.

The legacy of 1st Lt. Louis E. Allen is eternal.

Earthly justice is temporal.

Higher justice will prevail.

Lou,
I will never forget you and how you were one the coolest people I ever knew. I will never forget how much of a fun loving person you were. One of the best memories is when we went to the auto show in the city and someone stole your truck. Most people would have lost their mind but you were so cool and calm about it even though you loved that truck. I think anyone that knew you would agree that we all could learn from you how to be a good, patient and kind person no matter what. God Bless you and your family.

November 12, 2008

Hey Lou,
The video feed was down today. Since we left early, I stopped in to the local store and looked to see if the Christmas Angels were in. I was able to replace the two that were stolen, which were Peace and Faith and to get a new one for this year. It's called New Beginnings and she has a bright sun with her. I hope that where you are the sun is always shining and your days are filled with peace. I miss you so much Lou. The trial has been hard for everyone and we are all hoping that justice will be served in the end.
Chester just had a homecoming parade, their first ever, and it was in your honor. Who would have ever thought we'd see that? The pictures made us cry, but also made us smile to remember. I told Mom that you would've been mortified at the band picture with the braces. That was the picture that made her cry the most.
Be at Peace!

Love,
Beans

It seems like everyday i am reminded of something you did or said and i can't help but to smile. As i played soccer today, i was thinking of the time you took us outside to do a physics lab and instead you taught us the "butt trap" with the soccer ball haha. It's amazing how a teacher can affect a students life. You taught me everything there was to know about science, but it went beyond the classroom. You were there to cheer us on at our soccer games even though you lived so far away!! I appreciated that and it just proved what a dedicated teacher and friend you were. During my senior year i lost one of my best friends and it was one of the hardest times in my life. Again you were there to support me and to help me get through such a rough time. Hopefully someday i can inspire and touch as many lives as you have. You are more than just a teacher to me, your a role model and a hero in my eyes. I miss you "sir". XoXo

Mr. Allen-
Three years and it still does not get any easier. Each and every day we are reminded of you. The school will never find another Science teacher to replace you (none as neat as you, anyways :]), your parents will never find another son like you, and your boys will never find another father like you. It's amazing how many lives that you have touched, and how many people look up to you. The only thing that makes it easier is that now we all have an amazing guardian angel. Keep looking down on each and every one of us -- and know that we'll always be looking up at you.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Louis, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Tomorrow marks a third year since the death of this fine man. Sadly we never knew Lou in his lifetime, but we thank his family and friends for sharing him with all of us on this site and their own wonderful memorial site.
Rest in Peace Lou - you are loved, cared for, honored and remembered by so many people. Our sincere hope is that tomorrow will bring many wonderful memories to help Lou's wife, children, parents, brothers and sisters through the inevitable sadness that such an anniversary brings with it. Memorial Day...a time for rememberance. I didn't know Louis but live in Pike County and mourn the loss of such a wonderful person. I am reminded of him when I enter Gold Key Estates and see his memorial. A wonderful person, a life cut short - May he find eternal peace with our Lord!

I've just viewed the memorial site for Louis - a unique tribute to a unique individual. I could cry for all the years denied him, for all that he would still have accomplished, but having read so much, I've got an idea that he would be the first person to say 'get over it'. A truly joyous man, a one of a kind husband, father, son, everything to all who knew him. Thanks for allowing those of us who didn't have that pleasure to share so many wonderful memories. May God bless your family, your Nation and Louis himself.

Hey Lou I really miss you. I still can't believe that I can't just walk a path in the woods to see your smilin face playing ps2 with the boys. I am swearing in to the national guard on friday. It was something me nd you alwayz talked about. It has taken me awhile to get the process started seeing and knowing the pain of losing you. but I know even with what happened you would still encourage me to join and serve our country. I know that you will be watching over me so I am not so afraid. I really wish you were here though to talk to and guide me through this process of basic and m.o.s. traning. I sit and cry every time I hear certain songs that remind me of you(im already there) . I am alwayz looking at the pictures of you, Barb, and the kids. I'm glad that I am a picture fanatic because now i have them of you. I want to tell Barb and the boys but i'm afraid of what they will say. But I am going to make the long trip to see them before I leave for basic. I haven't seen them in like 8 months.. I really miss seeing them 2. Lou I love you and will alwayz look up to you. You are a dad to me. You helped me with my homework when i needed it, talked to me about things that i wanted to do. You were alwayz there for me. Same with Barb. I wish I lived closer to her and the boys. Well I'm crying now and I have alot of preparing to do for friday so again I LOVE YOU LOU <3 tomarrow is my 18th b-day i wish you were here to celebrate with me. I know you will be with me though even if i cant see you..

I just wanted to tell you that we started the 1st Lt Lou Allen Scholarship & Community Foundation. We hear so much of how you died, Lou, but I don't want to remember that. I want to remember how you lived. This foundation is a start. Hopefully, we can help some kids go to school and also help community members in need. We're having a Wing Fling as our first fundraiser. Oh, how you would have loved it - wings and beer, a winning combination. I will be sure to raise a toast to you. I miss you every day. LOU RULES!

Last week while in Washington DC, I met an Iraqi woman who was there for a conference. I asked her through an interpreter if we were doing the right thing, if we were making a difference. She said that we were, no matter what our news media says or other countries opinions. She said they loved the Americans and knew that when they were around they were there to help and to protect. When Saddam was in power and the military showed up or the police, they knew it was a very bad thing. I am the mother of a Marine, she had been told that. She looked at me and said Shukran, I knew it meant thank you, without the interpreter. Looking into her face, I saw courage, strength and endurance. Men like Louis were who she was thanking. I will cherish that meeting. It was deeply important to hear those words. I pray for Lt. Allens family and friends. I can only offer a humble heartfelt Thank You, Shukran. God bless you.
