To chads family my condolences and prayers. I met chad in Iraq and we became friends. We used to show sonogram pictures of our kids and talk about hanging out when we’d get back. He is a very special Marine to me because his memory is always with me. I will never forget him. He will never be forgotten. Semper Fi!!!

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Maynard Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to troops in Afghanistan this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Chad B. Maynard US Marine Lance Corporal. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Christmas 2004 Chad spent time with our family in Montrose. We didn't know you at all, but welcomed in just the same. The next time I saw you, you were in full dress uniform visiting all your friends at Montrose High. We knew you were being deployed soon. I remember walking up, sliding in for a hug and asking if you would mind if I wrote to you while you were away. LOL. I know I sounded like creepy old lady !
Well, here is that letter! You are so greatly missed! Lanae has your effervescent smile! I bet you are one handsome angel! Love, Mrs. Figgs

Son, It's Veteran's Day. We held an honor roll reading of the names of the Fallen yesterday at the State Capital. I read a page of names - yours was one of them. We miss you, Son. We'll be spending Thanksgiving at Breanne's - Jacob will be there. We will miss you at the table, but we'll set a place for you, and eat some turkey (Jacob is going to deep fry one for us) for you. We love you and are oh, so proud of you!

Thinking of Chad today. I have such good memories of you as a baby, toddler, little boy, patch on his eye, saying the funniest things and keeping us all laughing at your boy-ness and your funny sayings. I am so proud of you and choices you made. Thank you for your willingness to fight for our country.

Remembering Chad on Memorial Day weekend. Chad was a teachers assistant when I first met him for my 6th grade class at columbine. Him and I became great friends. Because of Chad, I enlisted early into the Marine Corps as he did and made it back to my Montrose High School graduation in uniform. I am currently a Cpl in the Marines and have deployed to Afghanistan for OEF 10.1 and 10.2. Not a day goes by when I dont remember Chad and why im here. Chad, you are greatly missed my brother! I remember you Chad'rs. I miss you and think of you so often. I know you are in Heaven waiting and busy doing whatever it is God has you doing. I am sure you are keeping everyone in joyful laughter. I am looking forward to seeing you again. You are a courageous hero.
I recently read the book, Heaven Is For Real, by Todd Burpo. I read it already believing that there is a Heaven and God, and what it means to be able to go there. Now, I have a new way of thinking about us/me/others being in Heaven. It made me think of Chad, my own brother Rob, and my parents who I believe are there. It is a wonderful consolation of peace knowing and believing that Heaven is such a glorious and marvelous place to be.

I didn't know Chad terribly well but I always remembered him because he always ended up hiking right behind me at SOI, in Camp Pendleton. We were both from Colorado so that gave us some common ground. I remember one hike on a Monday after a long weekend Chad was terribly sunburned and yet he kept hiking and finished the hump even though his skin was peeling off from his pack straps. What a tough kid, I am sorry for your loss.

I am thinking of Chad today and his parents and siblings. I love you all and watch how tough it is remembering your Chad. I am thankful to him and all the soldiers that have served, fought, been wounded, or killed in the line of duty for our country. I long for both wars to be over. More than that, I hope that none of our soldiers will be not remembered, or not thanked. I am truly grateful for all of them.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Isn't it amazing when you read about someone and think "I really wish I'd known you". The remarks by family and friends suggest that this young man possessed not only a sense of honor and duty, but also humor and there's no doubt he's sadly missed by everyone. All I can say is that there would have been no force on earth that could have prevented him from joining the USMC - and therefore he lived and died doing what he loved - being a Marine. I hope that time is helping to heal some of the hurt you've suffered, and that your special memories of Chad have brought smiles to your days.
Rest well Marine. Semper Fi

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Well, I've seen this one before, but I've never signed it. Little bro', your impact on this nation and this world has been astronomical. I am moved by how many people line up to say thank you. This is probably why I never wrote here before, because I keep choking up everytime I try to write. I just want you to know how proud I am of you. I love you and miss you. I already signed this once, because I kind of felt like I was oblidged to. There are no words that can say how incredibly proud I am of Chad...even this much time after his loss. I had Becky down for twelve days with Lenae, and it was so amazing to see how much of him there is in her. When she smiles, it's Chad all over again, and I hope she grows up with the pride that we all have for her dad. Becky's one of my best friends, and whether or not Chad considered me a friend or aquaintance, nobody has ever touched me as much as he has. I find myself checking the pages made for him weekly, and feeling these mixed emotions just as strong as the day I found out. He's really missed...Becky, love you babe, and to the Maynard family, thank you so much for keeping his spirit alive.

I just want "maynards" family to know that I and my son Jordy, send our deepest sympathys to his family and to know he is sorely missed. Chad,
There are many fond memories that I have of you from when you were just a toddler. I only wish I had known you better as you grew to be a fine young man.
As a patriot, I endlessly respect your mortal sacrifice to not only preserve the freedom and security of our country, but also to try to bring that freedom and security to others. I can think of nothing more honorable than that.
As a father, I am deeply saddened for you, for not having the time to know and love and truly enjoy your child. And I'm sad for your child who can only know you from our pictures and loving memories. And I'm sad for your wife, Becky, and the rest of your family who all miss you so dearly.
The world has suffered a great loss with your departure. Hopefully we can do right by the example you set for us all. I will miss you, Chad.

To the Maynard Family,
Because of my business, I have been to over 500 funerals in the past 12 years, but none have touched me and humbled me more than Chad's. I can normally put on a stoic face and do my job, but I couldn't at Chad's. After crying all the way home, I finally realized why it hit me so hard. A stranger, someone who had never even met me, died for me. When I think of the sacrifices that he and his family made for me, I am deeply humbled. It broke my heart to hear all the stories your family told of him. I feel like he could have been one of my own brothers or nephews and I know he will be missed a great deal. He must have been as great as a husband, son, brother, cousin and friend, as he was a soldier. I believe he would have made a wonderful father, also. I hope those stories and many, many more will be passed on to his child. And I would wish that all the millions of Americans that Chad never knew, but made the ultimate sacrifice for, would make an effort daily, to be an American worth dying for, so that Chad and all the other fallen heroes would not have died in vain. Thank you Chad and the Maynard family.

Gene, Cindy, Jerimiah, Breanne, and Jacob,
We really can not voice our sorrow in Chad's passing. Our thoughts were of all our children plkaying together as one family those many years ago.
You can be proud of your rearing of him, his commitment to patriotism and his service.
I wanted, but was unable at the time, to express my feelings. The Marines, while being trained as top fighting men and women, have been outr country's peace keeping fore for the past 50 years. You can not go to any U.S. Embassy in the world, the peace keepers we send to represent this nation, without seeing a Marine guard.Thay are the only service that are honored with this job. When I was in China during the 'Spy Plane Crisis' I was to report to the Embassy every day.Though there were protesters outside the image that truly implanted itself in my mind was of the Marine Guard standing at Parade Rest, no rifle or body armor, that would snap to attention every time I entered the building. It was an image taht gave me rest at night; if he was not worried neither was I.
Chad and Jacob add to this security.
Yesterday, during the funeral service, the Marine Hymn kept running through my head. My intangible image of Chad in the next life comes from my thoughts yesterday of the last stanza of that hymn.
"If the Army and the Navy Ever gaze on Heaven's scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines."
'I can see God telling Chad welcome to Heaven and your new post.'
That gives me peace.

To The Family Of Mr. Maynard,
It is with much sadness that I read the story online in the Rocky Mountain News, of Chad Maynard. He honored his family, his loved ones and his country. We live in a great country because of quality people like Chad Maynard. America is the land of the free BECAUSE of the brave. My deepest sympathy to you.

We want to send out our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Chad Maynard. It is very sad to think he lost his life at such a young age, but in return after reading the articles you could tell that he so much loved to be a marine and knew it could cost him his life. Our thoughts also go out to his wife awaiting their daughter, just remember Chad might not be with you, but he is watching and he will know when she is born and will see her.
We will keep you in our thoughts.
Lisa Monk and Family, I work with Chad's mom in Washington.

I didn't know your son but I honor him, his sacrifice and your family. You and his friends are in my prayers. I am sincerely sorry for your loss and I thank your fine young man for his service to God and country. I hope it is some small comfort to know that his dedication and the price he paid is appreciated by more people than you may realize.

You have given all there is defending and protecting our great country. There is not a sufficient thank you. May God give you all lasting peace.

It is hard to believe Chad is already on the other side of this life.
He was a vital part of his family and will be missed by all who knew him. He was the baby brother who could always make the others giggle with his rye sense of humor. He was also sensitive, loving, giving, and appreciative of what others did for him. He was all boy, wanting to follow in his Father's footsteps (and brother's footsteps), yet wanting to be like his mother too with her quiet understanding ways.
I looked through old photographs of him and his family last night in remembrance. I found feelings of longing to go back to those years to tell him what a great kid I thought he was and hug him once again.
I love you Chad.

I sat this weekend, with Chad's grandmother, looking at pictures of Chad as a young man & pictures of him dressed in his marine uniform at his graduation last spring and was so proud that this young man served our country with so much pride. Please pray for his family. Chad will be greatly missed and always remembered.

Chad gave his life defending what he believed in. We all must remember that he died for Everything and Everyone in the United States. Deepest sympathy to his wife and his Child on the way and To the Family.

He was a great friend and a even better Marine. We are all in shock. He will never be forgotten. Everytime I see the flag, I will think of Chad. You are always in our hearts.
