Daniel, on this Memorial Day 2021, I remember you. I lost my Marine son in Iraq same year. We have the same birthday. And I was there for the funeral and met your Mom and Grandma and little brother. I will remember you all my life even though I never got to meet you.

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Daniel Scott R. Bubb US Marine Lance Corporal.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

I am the head football coach at Broadway High School. Each week this season, our football team will play in honor of a fallen soldier. This week, we will be playing for Daniel. Our team considers this a great honor. His acts of bravery deserve a fitting tribute. Our players will play very hard tonight, and we hope to make Daniel and his family proud. Daniel-
It has been almost 5 years since you lef this earth. I have thought of you almost every day since then. I wish I could just get one more chance to tell you how much you meant to my life. Looking back on all the great times we had at Grand Caverns and running around the streets of Grottoes, makes me wish I could turn back the hands of time and change a lot of things. I lost a great friend on that fateful day. I will always regret not putting my pride behind me and realizing what you were telling me all a long. I just wanted to let you know that I did realize it and I thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I miss you Daniel, every day of my life! You were always the bestest friend a person could have, no matter how much I pushed you away! I still have the first flower you ever picked for me and the first letter you ever wrote to me! aww puppy love, those were the good ol' days. I always smile when I think about the times we spent together as kids. I know you are looking down at me and watching over me everyday. I hear many songs on the radio that remind me so much of you and it always brings a smile and a tear to my eye everytime I hear them. I love you my dearest friend, I will NEVER forget you!!!!!

To Daniels family-
You all are wonderful people and still to this day I am so sorry for your loss! Daniel was a great man, and he will always be remembered for being such a wonderful person. I know how much he meant to you all, and I Thank You for being so wonderful to me everytime I was over with Daniel. I hope all is well and take care.

I knew Bubb really well. The first time we met was when we were picked up by the MP's for trying to go into Mexico without the proper papers. Man, we were BRAND new to Alpha company. On our second deployment, Bubb was in 2nd platoon, I was in headquarters. Bubb was a great friend and a greater marine. There's not a day where I don't think of my friend. I have the date and a star for him tattooed on my arm. "Gone, but not forgotten!"

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Daniel, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I MET THIS AWESOME YOUNG MAN IN 2003 AT THE ROCKINGHAM COUNTY FAIR. I WAS A NAVY RECRUITER AT THE TIME, AND DANIEL AND I TALKED ABOUT HIS DESIRE TO JOIN ONE OF THE ARMED FORCES AND SERVE HIS COUNTRY WITH PRIDE. I KNEW DANIEL HAD DECIDED TO BECOME A MARINE AND I WAS VERY PROUD OF HIM FOR THAT. IT IS SO HEART-WRENCHING WHEN YOU LOSE A LOVED ONE, AND EVEN MORE SO WHEN IT'S TO A WAR THAT SO MANY HAVE MIXED EMOTIONS ABOUT. FREEDOM IS NEVER FREE, AND WE HAVE LIVED WITH THAT FROM THE BEGINNING OF TIME. I WISH THAT I COULD HAVE TALKED TO DANIEL ONE MORE TIME AND LET HIM KNOW HOW PROUD I WAS FOR HIS DECISION TO BE A UNITED STATES MARINE. I KNOW NOW THAT HE IS A GUARDIAN ANGEL WATCHING OVER ALL OUR SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN IN HARM'S WAY. I'LL PRAY EVERYDAY FOR HIS FAMILY, THAT GOD WILL COMFORT THEM DURING TIMES OF SORROW AND GRIEF AND GIVE THEM THE STRENGTH TO ENDURE THE SPECIALS MEMORIES OF DANIEL. DANIEL, THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO KNOW YOU. I CAN'T SAY IT ENOUGH. I AM VERY PROUD TO HAVE SERVED MY COUNTRY ALONGSIDE A YOUNG MAN SUCH AS YOU. THANK YOU!

Not a day goes by that I don't think of Daniel. Tara and I still talk and laugh over silly things they did. I stumble across pictures of him and my heart aches over how much I miss him. Then I think of his family and know their heart aches too. I spoke these words at his funeral so I share them now again as a tribute on this Memorial Day weekend.

"Those of us who have never gone don't always understand, the sacrifices that you made protecting heart and land. We take for granted our freedom and forget to count the cost to those who protect that freedom against war and holocaust. So this simple poem is a thank you to tell you someone cares and that you are remembered in our hearts and in our prayers." You'll never be forgotten, Daniel. We love you.

I know its been over six months but I still can't find the right words. Daniel was special to everyone. Our birthdays were close so we would always buy something for one another rather it would be a sucker or a pack of gum, it was something to say happy birthday with and show our friendship. Daniel has a special place on the "Fort Wall" across from my house. There is not a day that goes by without me talking or thinking about Daniel. From all your fellow classmates of 2003 we all still miss you and think of you often. Thanks for the memiores, the laughter, and the love. You will always have a special place in my heart.

My son Bryan served with Daniel. He was there with Daniel on that fateful day. In a recent conversation my son brought up Daniel. He mentioned how much he missed his friend. He shared a few stories of going to church before being deployed and some of the laughs and antics they had. Daniel was just a week older than my son. As this Easter Day closes my thoughts and prayers are with the Bubb family. He is Risen Indeed! And so too is Daniel.

To Daniel's family and friends-

My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.

They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

I don't know what's wrong with me. Daniel and I were never close cousins. We saw each other approximatly two weeks out of the year but he was always my favorite person to hang out during that time. The last time I spoke to him was probably about three years ago. But for some reason I can't help but to think about him all of the time. A lot of times I still get tears in my eyes. Even when I just see a Marines advertisement. So I know that if I miss him this much then he is greatly missed by those who were actually close to him.

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

As a former exchange student from Spain, I would like to express my condolences to Daniel's family and friends. I happened to read a short report on his death on The New York Times website and was so impressed by the sight of his young and innocent face and the idea of his decease that I searched for more information about him. Now, I feel even more moved as I learn about his liveliness, his dedication to others, his generosity and, most of all, his high ideals which led him to serve his country and the cause of freedom as exemplarily as he did. For more than a year, I was lucky enough to live a few hours to the north from his hometown, in south New Jersey. This unforgettable experience showed me how proud of their country and values American men and women are regardless of their age, race or religion. Reading about Lance Cpl. Daniel Bubb has reminded me of Americans' appreciation of the liberty and dignity of human beings at a cost which only Americans seem ready to pay. Now, as I think about this young and honorable man whom I never met, my eyes weep and I realize he embodies the greatness of a nation that keeps on enlightening the rest of us in Europe and around the world. After crying for Daniel and praying for him, I feel grateful to him and I am confident his sacrifice will not be vain because, thanks to him and to so many American soldiers like him, our liberty, the liberty he fought and died for, will prevail.

I share the pain of Daniel's relatives and friends and I also congratulate them on having had the chance to meet such a special and invaluable boy.

I just wanted to thank everyone for writting such beautiful and heartfelt things. I had the wonderful oportunity of being Daniel's fiance. I loved him with all my heart. Everytime he'd call from Iraq we'd talk about the day we'd get married and how we'd spend the rest of our lives together. My heart hurts so badly. I lived everyday for him, just to know that he'd come back to me. Now I'll never get the chance to go on a surprise cruise with him. This is hard for me to write. LCpl Bubb and I met on the day we both were leaving for boot camp at the Staunton VA recruiting station, continued on to the MEPS and into a van that would take us to our future. We were in the same platoon at Parris Island and graduated the same day. I considered Daniel Bubb is and always will be my brother Marine and I just want to say that I am proud of you and thank you for the time i got to serve with you. And my love also goes out to his family. May his memory live forever.

Dear Daniel Bubb's Family,

Words can not even express the sorrow we have in our hearts about the loss of your darling Daniel. Our son is serving in the 1st LAR, 1st Mar Div in Iraq now and I can not even fathom the depth of your grief. We are praying for you and your whole family. Daniel is a hero and is now a Saint. He gave everything to keep this world a safer place and without men like him, we would be lost. We will help you in anyway you need it. Please reach out for comfort, our thoughts and heart are with your family. God Bless Daniel.

Daniel Bubb was a true friend to me. Him and I would always come in late at nites we'd go to Mainstreet from dancing. Him and I would always be together like every weekend and he always stayed at my house. I can also member the first time we met and from that point we became best friends and always said we would be there for each other no matter what. Now he is in a better place and I know he looking apon all those he loved as family and friends, but to his family I give all my sympathy because I can't imagine what it feels like to go through what they are. This to Daniel, I will always member you the good and the bad. Also I know u will look down on me and guide me and others through hard times we have. And Daniel I want u to know your in my heart and I will never say good-bye, I will always say UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU AS A BROTHER AND FRIEND. MISS YOU

Dear Janey, Julie & Aunt Peggy:

I need to express my feelings but I can not find the words to express such a loss. A branch of our family tree has been broken and can never be replaced. Not only did Daniel mean so much to me but also to my grandson Joshua. Joshua LOVED Daniel. Joshua always looked forward to playing Army with Daniel in Aunt Peggy's back yard each time we visited Virginia. I know Daniel loved being a Marine and looked forward to doing it his entire life. I can only find peace knowing he died doing what he longed to do...Be A Marine. I am sure he had a wonderful 20th Birthday Party in heaven with Uncle Johnny, Grandma Iris and Aunt Phyllis. Love Always!

Dear Janey,Julie,&Peggy

I send our sincerest sympathy to you'all and Daniel's family. I remember the 1st. time we meet Daniel (8 yrs. old) at Peggy's house and went to the caverns where I bought him an Indian headdress & tomahawk. He grew up since then and his uniform and his weapons were changed to a Marine uniform and a machine gun. We are proud of that "Marine" my nephew Daniel Scott Bubb. My post 605 in Dallastown will be sending his buddies in Co.A in Iraq a few items in Daniels honor. god bless he and his family.

There are no words to express my deepest condolences to Daniel's family.

My son CPL Jared Braun is also with 1st LAR, Alpha Co. I believe Daniel and Jared were not only partners, but friends as well. Daniel's nickname was "Bubbles".

I can only assume Jared may have been there with Daniel(I haven't heard from Jared yet). But I pray you realize he was with people who loved him and now he is with our Lord and Savior in Heaven.

Daniel can't come back to you here on earth, but you can see him again, in Heaven. My heart and prayers goes out to you all.

I was a freshman at Fort Defiance HS when Daniel was a senior and we ran track together and even though i didnt get to know him very well i learned that he was a very caring person and all he ever talked about was how much he wanted to be a marine. He would also talk of his mother and grandmother a lot and wanted them to watch him run. We will miss him and i feel sympathy for the family. i have class with his cousin and he always talks to me of how close him and Daniel were and all the good times they had. I am proud to have known Daniel and will never forget him.

I knew Daniel really well from Middle school up.. he was like no other. He always had a that one kind of smile on his face and could make anyone laugh. You will always be remembered Bubb.. and we all will miss you. You'd be so proud to see how many were there on your day.. and how many were in uniform.. I may have been the only one in BDU's.. (only because I havent been to Basic Training Yet) but there were plenty in honors and there for you. We will never forget you.

To the Friends and Family of Scott:

One life lost, is one life too many. We are just getting our lives back in order after losing our beloved Granddaughter, A1C Elizabeth N. Jacobson, a Security Forces Blue Beret, who lost her life in Iraq, 9-28-05. She is now guarding the gates in Heaven and we want you to know that he will not be forgotten and hope that you will be as proud of him for serving as we were of Elizabeth. Without our children this Country would not be what it is today, whether from the first War for freedom until today's wars, we give our lives so Freedom can be obtained. I wish it was different, but unfortunately, it is going to be someone's loved one. May G-d bless our troops, and hopefully, someday Freedom and Peace will reign, so they all can be brought home safely.

No matter what type of accident or act of war, a loss of a child or friend is very traumatic, I know that it isn't much consolation, I hope that you know that there are others that feel your pain.

Elizabeth's motto was "We're only on Earth for a little while, so live life to the fullest and carry a smile."

prayers to you all

Dear Janey & Family;

My heart breaks for you as I know the pain of losing a precious child. I will share the only thing that eased my pain at all. I read an article by Dr. Billy Graham shortly after my son's death. In the article a lady asked Dr. Graham why God would be so cruel as to take her 23 year old son? His response was that our children are gifts from God and would she rather to have had him 23 years or not at all? I thought of how lucky I was to have my son 19 years 3 months and 11 days. I thought of all the laughter and joy he had bought into my life and then I thought how empty my life would have been without him and I give thanks every day for the time I had him. I was so lucky that he came into my life. I hope this will help some. Nothing will take away the terrible hurt but please know that others hearts are crying with you. Please feel free to contact me if you ever feel like you need to talk.

Most sincerely and lovingly;
