Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Joseph J. Andres Jr. US Army Master Sergeant. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Joe was honored today in Charleston, IL, at "Run for the Fallen." Last year, a young ROTC cadet ran for Joe. I told that young man several stories about Joe; my favorite memory is hearing the heavy crunch of footsteps in the gravel behind me…not many passed me in those days, and Joe was bigger than me…I remember Joe's grin as he ran past, and gave a little wave. Mike is now a Second Lieutenant, and I believe he will be following Joe's career path; he honored Joe's name on that run, and I believe Joe would be proud of Mike's dedication to serving his country. Mike has a lot to live up to. God speed, Joe, you are remembered.

Dear Andres family,
Each Christmas Eve since serving in Iraq 2005, has not gone by without remembering the patriot detail I was privileged to serve on in which your son's body was carried onto a C130 to begin his journey home... I never had the chance to meet him in life. From many of the posts here he sounds like an amazing son. Certain not a day goes by that your hearts will always ache for his passing. Know this fellow Buckeye was there with many others, your son was not alone, even as he left Balad, Iraq. Thank you and may God bless each of you as you mark another year sans Joe. Dear Andres Family,
I remember how our Church family remembered Joseph when he died. I am a member of the handbell choir and each time I rang the handbells this past Christmas holiday, I offered it to help those who suffer lost and illness. I hope it helps to know that the St. Columbkille Church community remember you in our prayers.

Tomorrow when my family is togather we will remember two America Hero's that where taken from their families on Christmas eve. Joseph 2005 and Sgt. Benjamin A. Biskie 2003. We will celebrate Christmas with a heavey heart also, this is a freedom we have because of all Military Vetrans around the World. Life is a wonderful gift and that gift you gave to America. I want to thank you Joseph and your family for my gift of Freedom.

To the parents of Master Sgt. Joseph J. Andres:
I know your pain
I know your sorrow
It feels as though there's no tomorrow
It's Christmastime
Your child is gone
But know that from the great beyond
He's watching you
And is so proud
Wanting you to sing strong and loud
Allow this Christmas season in
So loving life can begin again.

Mr. and Mrs. Andres,

I spent five years in the Navy safe stateside, doing my part. People would stop me when I was in uniform and say "Thank you for your service" and it embarrassed me a little, because I knew that there were many like Joe, who did so much more and gave so much more. Now that I am a civilian, I miss that feeling of being part of something bigger, something with deep meaning. Most of all, I miss being part of the team that served people like Joe. As a parent, I can't imagine your loss, but please know that he is remembered by many.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

My family and I remember Joe as he has always been: sweet, kind, gentle, sincere, strong, always a pleasure to be around, and always the guy that you always imagine the best for. I remember very vividly walking home with Joe from the bus stop from grade school, playing in the woods behind our house, watching Joe grow up. Joe is, to me, like the footprints poem. Mr. and Mrs. Andres I cannot express to you in words the sinking feeling that I had when I read of your loss. I had the honor of serving with Joe from the first day of basic training through AIT. At the time we both had dreams of becoming Special Forces Medics and doing great things for our country. I was amazed when I ran into him in SF training years later. I cannot think of a better man to set the example of a true hero. I am truly sorry that I just recently heard of your loss and was unable to attend Joe's funeral. A soldier like your son is diserving of the highest military honors. I am taking my family to DC soon and I plan to spend the time at Arlington so I can take my sons to the final resting spot of a great American that their father had the honor of knowing. Again I send to you my deepest simpathy and know that you are in my families prayers

Mr.& Mrs. Andres ~ Family,

I am so sorry for the loss of your son Joe. He is a hero to all of us and another "real" role model to pattern ourselves after. Although this is an extremely difficult time for both of you, and your family, please know that Joe died doing something he was passionate about and believed strongly in. He was an expert at his job and clearly part of a group which is the amoung the best of the best. Few of us know this feeling. His sacrifice and of those like Joe have shaped this country and allowed us the liberty and freedoms we all enjoy today. I keep hoping this is just a dream. Joe is a great guy. Every time I broke my computer he would be there to fix it. When I had my tonsils out he was the one to bring me ice cream. January 10, 2006

Joe,

To anyone who would ever hear the half of it, our time together over years long gone sounds like a giant roll call of the idylls of youth: scouting, fishing, swimming, biking, the autumn football games, camping at the lake, our first band, that double-date to the ice cream stand, mopeds, modeming, skateboarding, shooting rifles, exploring the woods, riding in the Triumph Spitfire, wandering out among the Erie islands---

But today what I remember most is one brief moment on our eighth grade field trip to Washington, where you stood next to me at Arlington. We paid our respects and thought of the long glory of the nation and for just a moment everything was quiet. In my heart I stand by you there again, but you are suddenly a whole lot taller and I am looking up to you.

I salute you, pal.

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

My Sincerest sympathy to the Andres Family,

I went to school with Joe. My parents still live in Joe's hometown of Seven Hills. The entire city had flags flying in Joe's honor. I too had a flag flying off my porch. When my younger children asked why our flag was up I tried explaining the concept of a war to them. Although they probably didn't understand I hope I at least taught them a new respect for our flag. Everytime it flies we will think of you Joe. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

I did not know Joe, but have known many like him,, those that have given the ultimate price for us. As a Viet Nam Era USAF Veteran, I understand the meaning of serving your country, no matter what it takes. Joe understood this cost, and served with distinction. He will live forever in the hearts of those that knew him. You see, us Veterans have a saying, NEVER FORGET. That is the greatest of respects, that he always be remembered. And be remembered as a guardian of our freedoms and rights. I have read the guestbook here, and Joe must have been a really great person. He has touched many. He is a credit to the Army, his family, other veterans, and his country.

Thank you soldier, you have done us all proud. Rest in Peace my Brother.

Mr. and Mrs. Andres,

I was deeply saddened by news of Joe's death. From St. Columbkille's and Cub Scouts to Padua and the wrestling team, I always remembered Joe as a really nice guy. As evidenced by the few details of his remarkable career in the Army, he obviously grew into an honorable man and a warrior. I can tell from his rank and his chest full of ribbons, he did all the difficult things our country asked of him and showed himself to be worthy of a position of leadership among the United States' toughest and bravest.

I proudly serve those heroes who put themselves in harm's way every day. Little did I know that I grew up next to one of the finest.

Sincerely,

LCDR Michael Lehman, MC, USNR

To Joe, Sr. and Mrs. Andres,

Please accept my condolences and sympathy for your loss. Joe, you and I have known each other for well over 20 years, and even though I never had occasion to meet your son, I felt that I did know him a little thru your infrequent discussions about him and his Army travels. I figured that as long as he was a "chip off the old block", then he was ahead of the game. I have always held admiration for him due to his decision to make the military his career, especially in today's world, as well as the success he had attained. Being ex-military myself, I hold him, you, and your family in the highest regard for making the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of what our country stands for. God Bless you all.

I was very lucky to have known Joe from St.Columbkille, and Padua High School. He is one of few people that I only have happy memories of. I could talk for hours just telling "Joe stories" about playing football at John Glenn, playing Seven Hills Baseball, sled riding, fishing, swimming, and playing basketball in my back yard, riding bikes in the rock quarry, riding the bus together almost every day, and writing "Cleveland Browns Songs" in hopes of getting them played on the radio! He is missed, more than words can ever say. I think of him everyday, and even though I miss him it usually makes me smile-just to think about him. He was a great friend and is a true hero! May the Lord strengthen your family in your time of need. And may God Bless America.

Thank you for your selfless sacrifice for our country. My deepest condolences go out to the family.

To the Andres Family,

My heart goes out to the entire family hearing of this news. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as I have always done throughout the years. I remember Joe only from when we were both very young, we spent countless hours together during get- togethers here in Ohio or in Florida visiting grandma & grandpa for birthdays and holidays, although most of my time was spent with Maureen because we were the same age. Although I can't be there at this time, I will be remembering Joe and I will feel so proud of him and the sacrifice he has made for our country. My love to everyone.

He gave the ultimate sacrifice, his life, in serving our country. He was a smart, kind & funny boy & I am so lucky to have shared such a special event in my life with him. I am so truly sorry for your loss.
