You are on my mind every day, but especially today on your birthday. I still miss you so much, the hurt never goes away. I can remember the day you came home from the hospital. I was so excited. I was only in about the second grade. I thought you and Shane were my brothers for some reason. I have loved you ever since then. I will never forget you!!!

I WANTED THE WORLD TO KNOW, ABOUT A MAN WHO LIVED NOT SO LONG AGO, HE WAS MY COUSIN YOU SEE, AND HE MEANS THE WORLD TO ME, SO FAR AWAY IN A FOREIGN LAND, SURROUNDED BY NOTHING BUT ENEMIES AND SAND, I WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE TO HOLD HIS HAND, AS THE ENEMIES GREW NEAR, HIS EYES WERE FULL OF FEAR, BUT FEAR HE HAD TO LOSE, CAUSE HE MADE A PROMISE TO ME AND YOU, TO PROTECT THE RED WHITE AND BLUE, ON FEBURARY FIRST, BOMBS BEGAN TO BURST, THROUGH ENEMY FIRE HE RAN, HE HAD TO PROTECT HIS FELLOW MAN, SPECIALIST ANTHONY CHAD OWENS SAVED MANY LIVES THAT DAY, THE DAY HE PASSED AWAY.

Anthony, I miss playing hide and seek with you. I miss climbing the fence to jump in the pool on the weekends. I miss you running out to the street asking if you can come home for the 3day. I miss laughing and sitting up all night while you tell me the gossip about the other guys' girlfriends. I miss the stories about family and the drinks during the summertime. I miss you. For the family of Owens: I have perhaps one of the last photos taken at Campbell before the deployment. I took it while we were at the Battalion Picnic. I will send a copy to a family member only, as I feel it is theirs to distribute if they choose. Please contact me at [email protected] Your son was a wonderful man whom made me smile when few others could. We had fun and we laughed a lot. Those kind of memories last a lifetime. Much love, Sam.

Hey Chad! It's been 3 years now and there's not a day that goes by that youre not thought of. We were all just actually reminiscing about you today! Nick misses you so much. His brother just passed away suddenly this past Sept, so he's not doing so good. But the memories of you that were talked about today put a smile on his face. Hope youre looking down on him and guiding him. See you on the other side! xoxo

To the Owens family, my heart is broken because I've looked so hard for a picture of your son to put in his profile so that he doesn't remain faceless. I will continue my search so that he is always remembered along with those who went both before and after he did. My son rest with him and though I don't know you I do know your pain.

There the Soldier stood, a beacon of Protection
In service to country and people
The Soldier will stand until Armageddon
A silent guardian, of Liberty and Freedom
In the deserts, the Soldier fights
In the cities, the Soldier gives hope
The Soldier will be there,
when the people are hurt.
The Soldier will be there,
when the dictator raises his cruel fist.
The Soldier will be there,
when all other hope is lost.
The Soldier will be there.
The Soldier will stand.
We will never forget.
We will never quit.
We will endure and continue on.
For the Soldier will be there, never gone.

I am at a loss for words...I'm thinking hard, but can't think of what to write. I don't know why this is so hard for me right now...Im getting so choked up that I have to keep walking away from the monitor. God, I'm trying so hard not to cry right now but it's no use. This has hapened to me once before when I was giving a speech in my Bilolgy Lab at UND. I just broke down, sobing so hard I couldn't even catch my breath in front of about 40 strangers. The whole episode lasted about 8 minutes, but it seemed like an eternity in front of my whole class room. I can't imagine what this must be like for his family. It's been nearly 8 months since I last looked at Chads Legacy page. As I get closer to my upcoming tour in Iraq with the 101st, it's only getting harder to talk about these things. I'm so tired of loosing friends, and I am deeply sorry that the Owens family lost their son. I'm proud to have known you Chad and the rest of the world is at a loss to no longer have you in it. Please accept my deepest sympathies to the Owens family.

Chad...God loves you, America should, and I still do.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

SPC Anthony C. Owens,

I have lost many great friends in this War. Among those friends, there is Chad. Chad you will be truly missed. All those days ma, you, and shane used to hang out together. I will never forget J. V Martin with us three. You have made a sacrifice that we will never forget. Now the quest is left to people like myself and your brother to complete. What a true person, true friend, but most of all true hero you are.

NOT ONLY AM I CHAD'S COUSIN, BUT ALSO WE WERE CLOSE FRIENDS. FROM THE DAY HE WAS BORN, I HAVE WATCHED HIM GROW UP. SOMETIMES WE HAVE HAD OUR DISAGREEMENTS, BUT WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THERE FOR EACH OTHER. WHEN I WAS SAD, HE KNEW HOW TO CHEER ME UP. BUT ON THE DAY THAT I FOUND OUT ABOUT HIS DEATH, HE WASN'T ABLE TO DO THAT. I FLIPPED OUT. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT I WOULD NEVER SEE OR HEAR FROM MY LITTLE BUDDY AGAIN. IF I NEEDED SOMEONE TO TALK TO, HE WAS THERE TO LISTEN. I HAVE ALSO BEEN THERE FOR HIM. I FEEL LIKE I HAVE LOST MY BEST FRIEND. I KNOW THAT IT MAY BE WRONG, BUT I WAS SO ANGRY THAT HE WAS TAKEN AWAY FROM ME. IT JUST ISN'T FAIR. TODAY IS HIS BIRTHDAY, AND HE ISN'T HERE TO CELEBRATE. IT HAS BEEN A VERY HARD DAY ON MY FAMILY. EVERYONE IN OUR FAMILY GOT HIM A FLOWER FOR HIS BIRTHDAY AND TOOK IT TO HIS GRAVE. I EVEN SANG HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HIM. HE SHOULD BE HERE WITH US TO CELEBRATE HIS 22ND BIRTHDAY. WE HAD A BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR HIM ANYWAY. EVERYONE SHOT FIREWORKS AND HAD A GOOD TIME, BECAUSE HE WOULD HAVE WANTED US TO. I MISS HIM VERY MUCH. NOT A DAY GOES BY THAT I DON'T THINK ABOUT HIM. I LOVE HIM VERY MUCH. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY, I LOVE YOU."

I AM CHAD'S LITTLE COUSIN. SINCE THE DAY THAT I WAS BORN WE HAVE BEEN VERY CLOSE TO EACH OTHER. WHEN HE LIVED IN DILLON, HE WOULD STAY EVERY WEEKEND AND EVERY SUMMER WITH MY FAMILY. I LOVED TO PLAY WITH CHAD. HE TAUGHT ME HOW TO DANCE, AND I LOVED FOR HIM TO READ TO ME. I HAVE A PICTURE OF CHAD AND I HUGGING EACH OTHER. IT WAS ON THE LAST DAY THAT I SAW HIM ALIVE. I BEGGED HIM NOT TO LEAVE ME THAT DAY, BUT HE HAD TO GO BACK TO IRAQ. I MISS HIM VERY MUCH, BUT I KNOW THAT I WILL SEE HIM AGAIN SOMEDAY. HE WILL GREET ME WITH HIS BEAUTIFUL SMILE, AND GIVE ME THE BIGGEST HUG EVER. HE IS TRULY THE GREATEST COUSIN THAT A GIRL COULD EVER ASK FOR.

thx to all who have responded. your words have been a great comfort and strength to us. i count it a blessing to have known this young man. i had the privlage of watching him grow into the soldier he became. he took all of lifes hurdles on head on, never gave up until he achieved his goal of becoming a soldier. he did everything 100%, nothing half way, thats the way anthony was. i miss him dearly, he was like a son to me, we butted heads often, but both of us knew the respect and love that we had for one another. he is now serving in Gods army, and i have no doubt he is still giving 100%! God bless you anthony, i love you and miss you very much,

Chad and I met through a good friend of ours George. All of us were members of the NJROTC, them at Conway High School and me at Myrtle Beach High School. When I found out about his death, I was shocked. I remember that every time I saw him he was always so happy and energetic. He had a wonderful, funny and outgoing personality and was one of the sweetest guys and people I have ever met. I only wish that I would have had the chance to get to know him better and become a closer friend of his and even stayed in touch. Although we didn't grow up together, go to the same high school together or become the best of friends, I will always cherish my memories of him and be forever grateful for the sacrifice that he made, although I wish that he was still here, as do many others, I know that he is smiling down from heaven. My prayers go out to Chad's family and loved ones, I cannot even begin to fathom the loss that you are experiencing and have experienced. You will remain in my prayers, God bless and thank God for heroes and individuals like Chad. You are missed but will never be forgotten.

Today while on leave I had some film developed that I had forgotten about and the first picture was Anthony with that huge smile on his face and I broke down.

I was Anthony's PSG when he was killed. There is no other word than HERO to describe his actions that day. He ran through a hail of gunfire to his team when they were pinned down then stacked on a door knowing that enemy personnel where inside. He gave his his life for his country and his fellow soldiers and I wish to God I could trade places with him. Anthony you are loved and missed by us all!

Chad was such a great kid, always smiling. We were so proud of his accomplishments after high school and the soldier he became. Our family always enjoyed being around him. He was the same on the court, at the pool, or showing his dicipline during NJROTC. We remembered him in our church after his death with pictures and a few words in his memory. We're glad that we had the opportunity to call him our friend.

Hi My name is Kendall Wadman and I wanted to extend my condolonces to the Pennington family and the Owens family for the loss of Spc. Anthony Chad Owens. I loved Anthony very much and he loved me. I will truly miss him very much. Anthony was never afraid to die and he loved being a soldier more than anything in the world. I was blessed to know him for the short time that I did. The thing that attracted me to Anthony the most was his smile. He had a beutiful smile. I only hope that I impacted his life in the same way he impacted mine. I will truly miss him and I know everyone else will. I love you Anthony Chad Owens and me along with everyone else will never forget you or the way you touched everyones life. I know in my heart that I will meet up with Anthony again because of the song he sang to me in the church van on our way home from church camp which was Until you come back to me again. Until you come back to me Anthony, I will miss you and I will always love you and I once again send my condolonces out to the Pennington family and Owens family I am sorry for your loss.

Anthony was my best-friend, brother, and my HERO. We met our freshman year in ROTC. He lived on and off with my family for short periods of time. I will always remember the Christmas break I shared with him this past year. I never thought that would be the last time I would ever see him. i have seen many marines die, and i have seen many wounded. some were buddys who i served with, and with the pride of a marine i could not let that affect me, i couldnt trip up i had to carry on, but when i heard about chad i fell . i was completly and utterly awe struck. how could this happen to one of the best friends any one could have? I often ask my self with all the deployments to iraq why chad why not me. i now have a new hero some one who not only was a good soldier, but an even better friend. I will carry on but you will always be remembered chad. Remembered as the fallen hereo but mostly as a fallen brother, and friend.

I never met Anthony, but I was one of around 30 soldiers that saluted his carrying case as it passed from the vehicle onto the plane at Baghdad International. Every loss brings so much pain to so many families, but being able to give one last salute as these young soldiers travel back to their families is an opportunity I'm proud to be part of. First off, I would like to send my thoughts and prayers to the family and loved ones of Anthony Owens. Anthony was a great soldier, friend, and just an out going person. I was Anthony's first squad leader when he arrived to 3rd platoon Dco 1-502. He was a tough soldier who had a no quit attitude. I always called him my go to soldier, cause when i needed something done right, he was there to do it. I took pride in training him and he took pride in his job. I know Anthony faught with honor and pride, and he will always be a Hero in my eyes. I will always picture him with his saying, G'd up from the feet up, and laying on my living room floor playing with my daughter. He will be truly missed and never forgotten. May the Lord welcome him with open arms and may Anthony watch down upon all of us. May God be with you all who loved this young man.

First of all, I want to express my condolences the Owens family. I was SPC Owens First Seregeant from the day he was assigned to Delta Company. It was amazing watching this kid grow up to be such a great man and soldier. Like many young men, he made his mistakes but, he would bounce back and bring it on so strong that it was truly something to see. He was a great soldier. Like many have said and written, he had a great sense of humor. One day while in Kuwait preparing to cross the border into iraq, Owens had a radio in his hands. He was walking around talking into it like he was a high ranking officer or NCO and was really digging into someone's butt. He must have done this for 10-15 minutes. I couldn't stop laughing. He finished the transmission with the statement "Stand down, stand...down." That was something very small but, I will remember it for the rest of my life. Along with his sense of humor, he was a good hearted, caring and proud man. It was an honor and I will always be very proud to say that I was able to stand and fight by him. Again, I am sorry for the loss of your wonderful son.

Thank you so much for your son. He is a man of high character and is dearly loved and missed. The last time I seen him was a very special time to me! It was at Maple Baptist Church and the day I was baptized. He asked me if I was nervous, and then encouraged me at that turning point in my life. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

i cant say that no one feels his loss like i do, cause im in denial...even still...the best one can do is think of him often...but not too long at a time. chad was a quick tempered man, and he was a strong and fast one too. he stood up for what was right. if you messed with his friends, hed put a hurtin on you. chad was a model character...and i hope those of you who knew him or ever hears one of his stories...i hope you take something away from it. persius, if you read this...i love you bro...if you go back home safe, ill do the same.

February 17, 2006

My sympathies are extended to you in this time of loss. My son is also in Iraq--Sgt Frank A. Snapp, Jr., who's comments I've just read. My son's earlier email to me indicated his great sadness as he expressed the thought that this young man "was going to go far" and that "he meant a lot to me". It is my hope that you will know that the loss of your son has touched me...though I did not know him. My son, JR, has been to Iraq twice now, and I pray each day that he can be effective and safe. There is always that realization that our troops are in harms' way for many reasons, some of which we may never fully understand, however each life lived or lost has meaning and purpose beyond the giving. May you find peace and love in the memories of your loved one, I pray.

To the family of Anthony Owens: I was Anthony's Squad Leader during his time with D co 1-502d INF. I share in your loss, and pray for our heavenly father to comfort all who were close to him. I would like everyone to know that he is loved and missed by everyone in 3rd Platoon, D Co 1-502 INF. Anthony had a way of pushing my buttons, and he managed to do this everyday. But he also made me laugh. He was an outstanding Soldier. He was sharp as a tac, and would not stop until his job was done. I will never forget him, none of us will. From me, and from your brother "Outlaws," God Speed Anthony.

First and foremost I would like to say that my thoughts and prayers are most definately with Owens' famiy. I loved this kid. Owens was in the 101st Airborne Division with my husband SSG Nicholas Mielke. He was at our house every weekend. Whether it was for playing poker, or for a cookout, or just to hang out. Owens was the sweetest guy, most caring and courteous person I've ever met. I'll never forget the last day I seen him. He was helping me and my husband pack our stuff up so me and my daughter could move back to Ohio before the deployment. I'll never forget the way he was with our daughter. He was a big kid himself. It's so hard to handle that someone you care about is gone. I will truly miss Owens and i'll NEVER forget him. Owens I am soo proud of you!! You died a hero. I want to thank you for the sacrifices you made for your country! Nick is very proud of you as well!!

Mr. and Mrs. Owens, please allow me to express my deepest condolences on the loss of your son. Words cannot make the pain go away but please know that veterans everywhere share in your pain and sorrow. Regardless of which war a veteran served in, they all share that same special bond. I served in the Vietnam War where many good men fell in the line of duty. I can assure you that Chad will never be forgotten by the soldiers he served with. Know that your son is a true hero, and remember that it is because of soldiers like Chad that we as Americans can work, worship and enjoy the freedom we have today. The ultimate protection we as Americans have is the American soldier, not the police or politician but brave men like your son that are on the front line defending all of us with their life. Mr. and Mrs. Owens may god give you the strength to carry on and bless you. Chad I salute you brother and to use a phrase from my former unit, Garryowen!

My heart goes out to the Owens family. I used to talk to him everyday. My heart was broken when I heard what happened. He was a really good guy who lived his life by trying to make others happy. I have not been able to stop thinking about him or some of the conversations that we had. Chad you will always be in my heart and I'm sorry that I couldn't be there for you more. To the Owens family, I know this is hard for everyone who was close to him but he is in a better place.

To the Family of Spc. Anthony C. Owens:

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away. God Bless this courageous soldier and his family.
