Jacob Allcott Obituary

PFC Jacob Hamilton Allcott died in the line of duty, while serving in the War in Iraq on April 22, 2006. He was killed along with three other soldiers by an Improvised Explosive Device along the road near Baghdad, Iraq. He was serving with the lst Squadron, 67th Armored Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, assigned from Fort Hood, Texas. Jacob was born on July 26, 1984 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Bruce H. and Maureen Olsen Allcott. He was the youngest of six children and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He lived in Iona, Idaho for the first 5 years of his life and then moved with his family to Caldwell, Idaho. He attended schools in Caldwell, graduating from Caldwell High School in 2002. While in high school he played on the tennis team and was a member of the Political Science Club. He loved music and sang in the Kiwanis Boys Choir in his younger years. He played various instruments including guitar, cello and piano. His favorite instrument was the guitar and he could play along with any music by ear. He spent many hours playing the guitar with his friends. He was very intelligent and always interested in computers, mathematics and the law. He enjoyed the outdoors, participating in camping, hiking and skiing as frequently as possible and was active in the Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Life Scout. He had a great sense of humor and a pleasant personality. Following high school, Jacob attended Utah State University and Boise State University for a year prior to joining the Army. He joined the Army on May 11, 2004. He received his basic training at Ft. Benning, Ga., graduating on Aug. 27, 2004. Following completion of his basic training he was assigned to Ft. Hood, Texas where he trained in the skills necessary for his assignment. He received The Army Commendation Medal for exemplary service during his training in July of 2005. His unit was deployed to Iraq at the end of November 2005 and while there, Jacob reported that they were providing great service to the people of Iraq and that many of the people they encountered had similar values to ours such as strong families and wanting freedom. At the time of his death he was serving as a gunner on a M1114 HMMWV. His casket was escorted home from Dover, England by Marine CPL Jerry Sharp a family friend. He is survived by his parents, Bruce and Maureen Allcott of Burley, Idaho., three brothers; Jason (Pam) Allcott of Hyde Park, Utah., Aaron (Ieshea) Allcott of Caldwell, Idaho., and Kyle Allcott of Burley, Idaho. He is also survived by two sisters; Maaike (Travis) Myers of Nampa, Idaho and Heidi (Sky) Ipsen of Washington, D.C. He is also survived by grandparents, Beth Olsen of Iona, Idaho., Jack and Joanne Buettgenbach of Ucon, Idaho. and Gordon Allcott of Salt Lake City, Utah., nine nieces and nephews and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 5, 2006 at the Caldwell LDS Stake Center, 3015 S. Kimball Ave., Caldwell, ID., at 1:30 p.m., with Bishop Daniel E. Norman officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30 - 9 p.m. at the church and from 12 -1 p.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be at the Iona Cemetery on Saturday, May 6 at 11 a.m. with Bishop Guy Redder officiating and with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army. Funeral services are being coordinated through the Dakan Funeral Chapel in Caldwell. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the LDS Church Humanitarian Fund or the Jacob Allcott Memorial at any Zions Bank to be used to support those soldiers injured in the war and their families.

PFC Jacob Allcott, on your 30th birthday:

You will always be my hero.

Thank you for inspiring me to be a better person.

Today, in your honor, I mailed care packages to two US Soldiers I am supporting through a volunteer organization [both are deployed to Afghanistan; both were 'adopted' in your honor]. And I'll be playing music all day.

I dont think there is one day thats gone by that I havent thought of Jacob. What a special guy. His friendship, patience, kindness and love touched my heart in a big way. Jacobs death rocked my world in a mighty way, its a long story but it made me look at life a lot differently. Ive lived my life for God ever since. I was so honored and blessed that his family let me be a part of the family gatherings and services, thank you....so much. What a great group of family and friends he had, people that I truly love. Most of my greatest memories were with Jacob and our close group of friends. Jacob.....I cant wait to see you in heaven someday. I wish you were here.

Jacob and I were neighbor growing up and best friends in elementary school. We played outside, rode bikes, and stood in line together due to alphabetic order. His sister Heidi baby sat me. When my sister told me what happened it was an unreal experience. We hadn't spoke in probably 5 years, but you still never can totally process losing a person you've known your whole life. Words fail.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jacob, but I am remembering on
this day he gave his all.
He is my hero.

Your family is in my prayers. My daughter is currently serving in the Middle East. I pray every day for her and for every American patriot who is serving the cause of freedom. No words can ease the pain of your loss. We cannot understand the reasons our children are put in harm's way. May God protect and strengthen your family and hold Jacob in His loving arms for all eternity.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

We are so sorry for your loss. Freedom is not free and the cost is very expensive. Please accept our prayers and sympathy during these hard times. We too have lost a soldier, Spec. Nicholas Brown was in 2/7 Cav of 1st Cavalry Division. He left behind a young wife and newborn son. He was hit by an IED on January 22, 2007. He has already reported to his new station in heaven. My sister says he is teaching heavenly Warriors the Army Way. Remember that God gave up his son so that we could see ours again. Thank you,

I am so sorry for your loss. Hugs.

AN ANGEL OF THE LORD
An Angel of the Lord does walk,
The mission chose by Him,
Walking towards the one God chose,
Whose life has now turned grim.
Weits all so true,
An Angel of the Lord does walk,
Fulfilling ordained commission,
Are you the one know not how,
nor know us when,
Nor what, but only why,
God desires for us to know,
He hears our mournful cry.
Some behold angelic sights,
And marvel at God's hand,
Some receive the unexplained,
Deliverance He's planned.
Just know when least expected that,
You may behold one day,
An Angel of the Lord, that's come,
To keep ill fate at bay.
It matters not, if none believe,
Nor what, one says to you,
For when your eyes behold God's Help,
You'll know whose now in need?
God honors true contrition.

Please know how Deeply Sorry I was to learn of the loss of
this Brave Young Soldier, Pfc. Jacob H. Allcott, one year ago.
As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly,
and as a sister, who has lost a brother to war,
I am aware of the deep and devastating pain
that you are experiencing.
The overwhelming heartache that seems to surface
through our shock, as the time passes.
Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.
Hope is not only the light we carry within...
It is also, what often carries us through...

May Jacob Rest Safely, in the Loving Care of God
and know that he Will Never Be Forgotten.
I pray that the Peace of God will continue to be with the Allcott family.
I am the sister, of such a Young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

I sincerely hope that you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today and every day, as this Country remembers Jacob and his Sacrifice. He Is A Hero to all of us.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Knowing Jacob for 17 years brought us really close. It's hard to understand why these things happen and it's even harder to explain. I know that Jacob is providing the family with strength and courage, as I know he does the same for me. I know that Jacob is with me everyday in my mind and my heart. I cherish the fact that I had the chance to find such a close friend in Jake. The good person that made up Jake, was a reflection of the strong family values he grew up with. My thoughts and prayers are always with your family.

Brother and Sister Allcott - we never knew your son, Jacob, but our hearts felt a keen sense of loss for a true American hero...a very much loved member of your family...as we read of his death in the Church News today. We thank you for your son's service and the ultimate sacrific Jacob gave on behalf of our family and our country's behalf. We'll never be able to adequatley express our appreciation for his service and sacrifice, but someday we hope we can personally thank him for his selfless service and appropirately honor his life. My family and I can sleep better at night knowing there are such fine young men serving our country and helping to bring peace and freedom to a country that has never had that blessing! Our hearts go out to you and your extended family - for your loss of Jacob's companionship and the opportunity to see his life unfold...we are truly sorry for your loss. To the Family of Pfc. Jacob H. Allcott:

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort. When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
