Hello,
We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Shane Timothy Adcock US Army Captain.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Remembering you always-- your laugh, love of life, love of family and wishing so much that you were here with us again. No one gave hugs like you and I so wish I could have one now to ease the heart ache I feel. You had finished God's mission here and He took you home to be with Him. Your faith touched so many people's lives. Love you so much!

We love you and miss you. Hard to believe it is 6 years since your body left this earth. I miss your jokes and sense of humor. Your smile, and contagious laugh. And your sound ear that could help solve anything, and the security of knowing I was safe when I was with you, my big brother. We'd do all crazy adventures because youd say we'd be alright, and I'd follow along without question. Your memories live with us, everyday. We find comfort in knowing your soul is set free, where there is no pain and suffering and your with Our Father in Heaven. Dear Shane,
There's a permanent memorial in Irvine, CA that's about 2 years old now. When I found your name, I fell apart for a while, not knowing that a docent was taking photos for the memorial's album. That moment was the only time I've ever been unable to keep it together in public. Maybe it was because your name was in the company of so many others, each of whom have their own stories and memories that somehow seem locked away in the stone panels.
I still remember you and am glad that there are others who do too.

Shane,
It looks like I'll be heading out again-- round #3. While I should be happy and thankful with all of what is supposed to be normal back home, it's the painful memories and knowledge that the good guys like you can't be part of it that makes for a sadness that just never goes away.

Rest In Peace Sir,
I just found out by a previous commanding officer, I served with in Hawaii. That Shane passed away 4 years ago. Him and I served together in Afghanistan and a great personal as well as professional relationship. I know its been a long time sir, But it brings pain in my hearth that you are gone. You are truly missed and by the way, I have been a Staff Sergeant for over three years thanks to your advise and talks we use to have every night in the middle of nowhere Afghanistan. When I make SFC I would owe it to you and talks to my Soldiers about how great of a Soldier and officer you were.Rest in peace SIR!! I miss you.

Shane,
I think of you often and I miss you. I donated a Bible in your name on memorial day and wrote a note to the soldier that receives it inside the bible telling them about you and how much Christ means to you and that we love you. I hope a soldier gets it and it really touches their lives as you have touched so many lives. I have not written and I am sorry but you have not been forgotten. This is not the first time I have donated bibles in your name but I just wanted to let you know that you are so loved and missed. So many times we wish we could rewind the clock and have that time back. I know I wish I could have seen you again. I wish my boys could have known the man you grew to be. Your parents should be so proud of you and Shannon. What amazing people you both became. I bought a tie for my Dad for Christmas today that so reminded me again of the sacrifice you made for us. It has an eagle soaring on it with a cross and a ribbon that says Support Our Troops--Celebrate and Honor those who served. It also says "Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and our American GI's--One for your soul; the other for your freedom." I know Dad will wear it with pride and remember your sacrifice. Well Shane I love you and really miss ya. Until we meet again, your cousin.

So hard to believe it has been 4 years! We took our vacation in Hawaii this August. Without a doubt Schofield Barracks was on our To Do List. We arrived 20 minutes after the museum closed. I suggested to Jim that he knock on the door and tell them how far we had come to see Shane's memorial. He did and we were able to go in and see it. Hopefully the two photos I tried to add will show up. Shane will never be forgotten. We still have the photo of the ROTC graduates for the year Shane graduated on our fridge!

Shane,
I look back fondly on the good times we had together. You were an inspiration in my life then, and your legacy and sacrifice continues to inspire me every day.
The hero bracelet on my wrist bearing your name has not been taken off since the day that I received it. It reminds me of good times every time someone asks about it. I know that telling them of your life and sacrifice carries on your legacy.
While our paths crossed for only a short time in life, I want your family to know that your character and actions have inspired me and so many others. Every person you touched in life bears your memory. I know that I honor you every time I pass on knowledge or even the attitude for living life to the fullest that you taught to me.
Your influence on me was life changing. I have been unable to find the words to say to you and your family for the past 4 years, which is my only regret in having known you.
Your life here on earth may have ended, but I know that you are living eternally with our Lord. I look forward to seeing you again one day and thanking you in person.
You will never be forgotten.

Shane,
I sit here now planning my sisters wedding to her High School sweetheart whom she was out of touch with the past 10 years and the found each other again. He is in the green zone right now and as I micromanage every detail I think of you and other fine soldiers who have touched my heart, almost all of which have left too soon. Right now I feel like you are in the room with me, I miss your energy, kindness and humor. I also would like to extend my condolences to your family. My last message was remiss in doing so. While I have no son, I have greatly felt the loss of loved ones mainly a future partner. I still find my self talking to them as if they are right there. Even before Shane enlisted he was a hero, he already had all the qualities of one. Take care of the one upstairs for me!

Hi Shane,
It's another Memorial Day, and I find myself again measuring what I've done over another year that you didn't have, and whether or not I made the most of it and did justice to the sacrifice you and too many others made. I just made O-4 this month, but still consider the short time I worked with you in 2005 one of the most important shaping times of my life.
I still think of you every day and find comfort in knowing how much your family and so many others loved and always will love you.

Hi Shane,
Its Memorial Day 2010, and I still think of you every day. As I write this I am once again slugging out another tour in Iraq. This time as a commander. I often think of how the three of us (me, you, and Tom) grew up as young Wolfhound FSO's in Afghanistan. We learned so much from each other back then. So many hard lessons learned in my first two deployments with you, that I carry you with me everyday in this deployment. You are a part of every single command decision that I make Shane. Thanks for all the sound advice. Happy Memorial Day Brother. -Joe

I wish you were here so i could tell you this in person and not many many years too late, i am so proud of you and the sacrifice you've made, i am proud to call you my family and i know without a shadow of a doubt that you mother father and sister are too. I regret not making enough time to see you while you were still on this earth..i guess i'm a little late.. but i still want you to know how much we love you and i know that i will see you again someday... shane you used to scare me so bad :-) i remember i would TRY to sneak in shannons room with her and aislinn and each time i would think you were asleep you would sneak out in the hall and snatch me up and bring me right back to your bed. i may have hated you then for that but i know i could count on you to always keep me out of trouble.

I think about what your life would have been like. But then I begin to feel God's presence and am reminded that God had a plan and in order for others to be saved it was your turn to return home. I am comforted by our Lord, my savior, and in the peace that I know we will se you again. I am so thankful for the freedom I have in this country and the Freedom GOd gives us. Shane,
I miss you so much. I think of you often and remember your strength to help get me through the days where I am not sure I have it in me. You were always so good at that and made it look so easy. I still find it all so hard to believe but I know God has you now. I hope you are looking down on all of us and seeing what you meant to everyone who knew you. Every year around this time, I share your story with my students and how you have impacted my life. I want them to have someone in mind when they perform on Veteran's Day so we can honor all of our Veterans appropriately. A few have seen the tribute of the amphitheater and have put together the fact that you are indeed of who I speak. I cherish the reverence in their eyes as I see again your amazing influence. I look forward to the day that I get to see you again but until then, I will keep trying to be the person you always knew me to be knowing you are looking down on me. I miss and love you. We'll meet again in Heaven sure.

Happy 4th of July Shane. We had intended on getting to your grave side on the 4th of July but there were many obstacles which got in the way. It seems that they close the main entrance when there is a major event occurring in DC and even those who have a pass to enter Arlington can not get past the barricades.
But that being said I must say I wish you had physically been with us Saturday night you would have loved it. We had the pleasure of seeing Trace Adkins in concert and meeting him in person. But I would have preferred to have had you at my side.
Thank you

Another year has passed, and on this day of remembrance, I find that the meaning of the memories is just as deep as it was last year and the year before. I try to be deliberate in living a life worthy of your sacrifice, but on days like today nothing seems enough.
May 24, 2009
You would have been 30 today if God hadn't called you home. We would have had a party with lots or fun and fellowship, but your whole life was filled with fun, family and friends. Those were important to you, next to God.
People often ask whey I keep attending the memorials and spending so much time at Arlington; they don't understand. I don't really know how to explain it except that I want to honor you and your sacrifices, but most importantly, I don't want anyone to forget You. As your Mom, you've been a part of me always-- in my womb, my heart, my mind, even though we are apart. Shane, you were a sweet, sensitive child who always wanted to please and keep peace with friends and family. When you became a man, you still wanted to be that kind of person, but you were not afraid to stand up for your own convictions and beliefs.
I'm doing the same. Recently, through much persistence, the road signs on I-95 at exit 86 were made larger so motorists would see your name and pause for a moment to hopefully say "thank you".
You'd be so proud of Shannon. She completed her goals and is a wonderful mom.
Not a day goes by,that we don't think of you and miss you. We love you son and you'll be in our hearts until we see you in Heaven. Happy 30th Birthday. I love you.
Love always,
Mom

It's hard to believe your not here on this earth... you would have been turing 30 in a few weeks. It's kinda ironic that your birth is always right around Memorial Day... God always knew what he had in store for you... You would go down in history as an American Hero.. I'm still broken and wounded ..they say time heals..I don't know that I believe that I think God heals and gives us the strength to keep moving on.. until we see ya again ..I miss ya, and love ya...

Dear Brave Capt. Shane T. Adcock,
By the time you reached the age of 27, you were already a Captain in the Army. Your life speaks to me of selfless achievement in the service of we, your fellow countrymen. Grenades and hatred for what you stood for, took you away from us. But the essence that was you remains to show us the value of self sacrifice for others. You sound like a fine young man. May your loving wife and family heal and may their sorrow at losing you turn into acceptance as they realize that you will all meet again. Rest in peace brave lad. Know that we will never forget you. You have done your share in keeping us all safe.

Shane,
Today we're going to battle with Hanover County in an attempt to overturn their decision on a highway marker in your honor. Regardless of the results we all know what a hero you truly are. Many people have signed petitions in our attempt. People you know, and people you don't. One thing they all have in common is respect and gratitude for your service and sacrifice.
God Bless

Shane,
It's been a year since you went to your home in heaven above,
Yet not one day since you left has the world not felt your love.
Your love for your country, family, and friends, but most importantly God,
For the path you chose on which you gave your life on the land you trod.
To say that you made a difference just doesn't seem enough,
So let me tell you how you changed the path of one of us.
When I see a soldier now I always say a prayer,
That God will keep him safe from harm and let him know we care.
When I see the beauty that surrounds me everyday,
I stop and thank God for the blessings that He has sent my way.
When I look at my three sons and the freedom that they share,
I am humbled by the sacrifice of soldiers to keep freedom there.
These soldiers don't even know my sons yet they fight for their right to be free,
How special these brave young heros are that they give so unselfishly.
Soldiers who, just like you, knew it from the start,
That they were destined to be soldiers because of their compassionate hearts.
Shane, I promise to always remember the sacrifice that you gave,
The countless lives for our country and for God that you sought to save,
I'll remember what you told my Daddy when he said, "Shane, keep your head down low,"
You said, "Uncle Tommy, I'm not worried because if I die then I know where I'll go."
So Shane as you're exploring Heaven way up there,
Could you give Granddaddy and Grandma Barnes a hug and let them know I care?
And until we meet again in that Celestial sky,
I will watch for rainbows and know that you're close by.
Love,
Helen

Well, it's been a year and it seems like yesterday. We keep your picture on our refrigerator of when you were in Troy. We look at it everyday and think of your wonderful life and what a difference you made in such a short time. I look forward to the time we meet again.

I only met Shane a few times, but it didn’t take long for me to see what a special guy he was. I can remember last year when I found out what had happened. I couldn’t believe what I heard. I had an image in my mind that Shane was helping someone when this happened. That’s the type of guy he was. I’ve thought about Shane every day for the past year. Thank you for your sacrifice. You ARE an AMERICAN HERO. See you in heaven

Labor Dary, 9/3/07, a last minute change of plans brought me to the same spot as your family, Shane. I saw your father first and then your mom and then started looking for you to walk around the corner. I then saw Shannon and a very tall young man and immediately thought it was you and found out it was Shannon's husband. My two youngest children had the thrill of meeting your 10 month old twin nephews. What a blessing they are to your family! I then walked closer to your Dad and asked him to update me on you. I couldn't wait to hear. I was sure I was about to hear great stories of your adventures and triumphs. Imagine my shock when he looked straight at me and said, "You don't know?" He told me about our Hero! I am so proud to have known you. Thank you for your willingness to serve and sacrifice your life so that we can continue to live freely and proudly. You are a Hero. There was never a doubt that you would make a mark on this world. Though you are onto an adventure like non other, you have triumphed. I pray God blesses your family each day with great memories.

Shane,
I will never forget you. You have touched my life so deeply and I will never look at life the same again. You never took life for granted. You lived each day the best and it is obvious how many lives you touched just by being you. You, my cousin have shown me that each day is precious and is a gift from God to be cherished and not taken lightly. Because of you I now make sure I remember all of those who serve this county so unselfishly and their families. I pray that peace will soon come and I know you are in heaven with the same prayer. Shane, you have left a mark on my life and things will never be the same. Thank you my cousin for the lives you have touched and the love you have spread and thank you for the greatest gift anyone could ever give-their life for another. I will always remember you and the commarades you left to carry on. I love you Shane.
Love,

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I served with Shane for the first 4 months when we went to Afghanistan. He was great guy to say the least. His natural leadership skills made him the ideal person as our Fire Support Officer. We did argue often as to which state was the best mine of Texas or his of Virginia. One thing that no one could argue was his kindness, equality, and determination. My most fondest memory of him was when were leaving on the last leg of our flight to go into Afghanistan, and he gathered us for a team meeting. At the end of the meeting he started to recite the Lords Prayer. Without any hesitation from any of us we all joined him in doing so. I don't remember any of us having a dry eye after that meeting. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I cant tell you that his service was not in vein. Through his leadership and mentoring to me as a young man then I to this day incorporate his teachings into my everyday life. God has certainly left this world with one less Great Man to inspire it. Very Respectfully .
