David Roger Lee Staats

David Staats Obituary

David Roger Lee Staats SSG David Roger Lee Staats was called home on December 16, 2006 when he was killed in Iraq. David was born in Norfolk, Virginia on August 22, 1976. David graduated from Cactus High School in 1995 and then immediately enlisted in the Army. David was a soldier and died doing what he loved to do. He is survived by his eight year old son Tyler Staats (who lives with David's former wife Heather in Glendale), his parents Wanda and Roger Staats, his sister Bethany Staats and his niece/God daughter Hayley 13, along with many other extended family members and so many friends. David will be buried in Colorado, where he called home with his current wife and step-daughter. A private service will be held in Glendale for the immediate family. THE WORDS THAT WERE NEVER SPOKEN WILL BE WHAT I REGRET, BUT YOUR FACE I CAN NEVER FORGET. YOU WERE MY BABY BROTHER, AND MOM AND DAD'S SON. YOU WERE HAYLEY'S UNCLE, OH HOW SHE ADORED YOU. YOU WERE TYLER'S DADDY, HIS HERO. BUT MOST OF ALL YOU WERE EVERYONE'S FRIEND. YOU WERE TAKEN FROM US WAY TOO SOON, BUT YOU DIED DOING WHAT YOU LOVED TO DO. THE TEARS WE SHED WE KNOW WILL PASS, BUT THE LOVE WE HAVE FOR YOU WILL FOREVER LAST. Written By Your Loving Sister Beth

Hello,

We wanted you to know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We have recently sent Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of David R. Staats US Army Staff Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, our family, friends and many others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

The news says that combat troops are leaving Iraq this week. I can't help but hold my breath and pray that they bring you home with them. I miss you so very much. I praise God for the years He gave us with you, David. I am so proud of you and I think you would be proud of me, for the way I have carried on while always honoring your memory. You would be amazed to see the lovely young lady our daughter is becoming as the years continue to pass. This weekend is your birthday. You would have been 34. I will be 31 soon and it feels so wrong to "pass you up in age". Happy Birthday, Hero. We love you so much!
Infinity to the 4th power. I love you more than birthday balloons. See you at dinner.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know David, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I'm sorry for your loss, I understand your pain. He was truly a hero. I lost my brother 07-23-07 1st Sgt Michael S. Curry. Cherish David's memory & he will always be in our hearts for the price he paid.

August 16, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Soldier”
To Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

My family and I extend our deepest sympathy to you and your loved ones. My son, SPC Kyle Bennett, went to basic training with David and was then stationed with him at Fort Hood, first with the 2-8 and then with the 1-7. Kyle thought the world of David and had the greatest respect for David, or as he would call him "Staats". I met Ssgt Staats on October 29, 2006. He was kind and took the time to speak to a concerned Mom (me). I will always be grateful for that. God bless you and your family; God keep David in your arms.

i have never ever loved anyone like i love you. i have never been more proud of a human being than i am of you, my love. you are the heartbeat of our family. you are my rock. i love you with every ounce of my being. you are a hero, david! a hero to our country, a hero to your children, a hero in my eyes, a hero as a man in general. this is more than what kind of soldier you were.. this is about the man you were. the character you have. and the way you touched each and every person you have ever met. people meet you and instantly love you.

nothing in this world ever impacted the way i feel for you. No matter what kind of storm was outside our home, we were safe from it's harm because our HOME is solid, made with unconditional love. i will make you proud, david. like you have made me!

oh david. did you know? did you know the kind of man you were? oh baby. i hope so. i hope you know how much you are loved! Instantly,, people are coming in droves to honor you and to talk about you.

Oh David. Thank You for our memories. We made incredible memories in these years together. And I replay them one by one. They just keep pouring in my head. So much laughter. Your eyes tell our story.. I can see your soul through your eyes. You are gorgeous! Such a beautiful soul. And That will live on. I will make sure of it! I will raise our daughter in a way that will make you proud. I think you would be proud at how I handled telling her today. She wasnt here when the notification team came. I am going to make sure she is ok baby.

A few days before you were killed, you told me, "meagan, you will never be alone. you have my last name". That is the best gift you could ever have given me. I treasure it and I am a better person for having loved you and belonged to you. You inspire me to leave a lasting positive mark on this world like you have. and I will , David! I will, baby. I promise. I will make you so proud of the kind of mother and woman I will live my life to be.

Rest, my love. Rest in Peace. God is with you. He always was. I know he was there in your last moments. And even though I know you wanted to come home to me,,, I know you went home today. You're home now baby. Safe. No harm can come to you now. Rest, my love.

I love you more than Infinity to the 4th power.. and I will see you at dinner.
