Logan, I especially think of you on days like this (Memorial Day). I have the many fond memories of you that I now share with my daughter Katelyn (8). To keep your memory alive I share those memories so my children will know you as well. Remember the time you showed me your heart when you held my hair while I got sick outside the bus after coming home from Florida (drill team comp)? Or the conversation we shared right before your deployment? I love you my friend and continue to miss our moments together. Until again...

This still hurts to think about. We were in high school together. We were both stationed together in Alaska. Right before you were deployed we ate at Red Robin and discussed past and future plans over a few drinks. To know that you're gone, it's unreal. I miss you man, more than words can ever say. At least you're in a better place..Rest in Peace...

It has been five years...I just adopted my 42nd troop in Logan's honor. I continue to send packages and to support our Service Members while deployed to keep his memory alive. So far, they have all come home safe...I get the feeling that Logan is watching over them as well. Rest gently hero.

To think that is has been almost five years since we lost you...you was my classmate, my buddy and I will never forget the first time you introduced yourself to me. We were in band at the middle school and you told me Hi, my name is Logan but you did it in your Barney voice just to make me laugh...We miss you so much....

Lori, hoping you and Ryan are well..I know Logan will always be remembered and loved as are you two as well.

Logan and I were battle buddies one summer at ROTC camp. We were in a tough situation. In a company with the baddest 1st SGT in the state and we had the hardest platoon SGT one could get. I remember we he was company commander for the day and I was the guidon bearer. We learned some tough lessons that week, many that I have still not forgotten. But that week, that day we were invincible. I may have only known Logan for a week, but I will never forget him.

To the family: I am a mother myself and could not imagine loosing one of my children to a war. I send my deepest sympathy to you all. I want you to know that I am very proud of Logan. It took alot for him to face such a task not knowing what the next day would bring. He gave his life to protect millions of people. In my eyes and the eyes of so many, HE IS A TRUE HERO. He will always be remembered. As long as he remains in your hearts he will never be forgotten. To Logan: You are and will forever will be a very remarkable young man. I hope that one day when I make the journey to the other side, that I get to finally shake the hand of the young man that cared so much for so many people. Speaking for a nation: We are very proud of you. You will always be remembered. You will always be in our hearts. We love and miss you.

I remember Logan as a bright, handsome fellow. Full of sunshine and mischief, eyes sparking as he grasped a new concept. Fearless and full of daring on that third grade playground. As a student teacher at the time, I believe that he taught me more than he ever learned from me. though I never saw him after those few months long ago, I hold his memory as that sweet, wonderful, innocent child. Today I packed up care packages in his honor and memory and sent them to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan through anysoldier.com in hopes of brightening their day as he once brightened mine. May God bless you Logan. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Doug, as your family comes up to three years I know where they are now. I've been blessed to stay in touch with your dad and hopefully always will. I know that when you died, then your brother went to Iraq and came home safe and then your dad went to Afghanistan and came home safe that again his life changed. I continue to keep him always in prayer.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Douglas, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Logan - I think of you, your mom, and Ryan often. I know you must be somewhere watching over the rest of your buddies both old & new. Watch over Greg Vaughn as he carries on in Afghanistan and watch over my Brad as he gets ready to go to Iraq. I read something this weekend as I joined the Blue Star Mothers to support Brad any way I could and by giving and supporting other soldiers as I would want all you guys who used to spend so much time at our house, to have someone there for you no matter where you were. It read: "For those who have fought for it, freedom has a taste the protected will never know." As one of the protected I salute you.

With love - Martha

We'll see you again Logan!

On February 13, 2007 I lost my son Nickolas Aaron Tanton in Kirkuk, Iraq and I just want to take a moment to thank the families and friends of those who stood by my son. I know your sorrow and your pain. Please know that Doug's sacrifice did not go un-noticed or unappreciated. Tonight from a thousand miles I send my sympathy, my thanks and my eternal gratitude for Doug's sacrifice. Thank you for standing with my son so far from home. Thank you for guarding and protecting my son, family and my freedom.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

August 14, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
