Joseph Allen Carroll Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away on February 4, 2026, in
Lilburn, Georgia, from heart failure. He was 78 years old.
The funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at 3:30 PM at Lilburn First Baptist Church, with Pastor T. J. Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends at the church, from 2:30 – 3:30 PM, prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 9, 2026 at Evergreen Cemetery, Evergreen Drive, Chester, S.C. 29706.
Allen was born on August 7, 1947, in
Sumter, South Carolina, to Joseph "Joe" Allen Carroll Sr. and Grace Dudley Carroll. His childhood took him from Sumter to Gaffney, South Carolina, and eventually to Chester, South Carolina, where, while still young, he met the love of his life, Pamela "Pam" Elaine Gladden. Their bond would become the foundation of a marriage marked by deep affection, devotion, and joy.
A proud athlete, Allen played football and golf at Chester High School before continuing his education at Clemson University, where he found both academic purpose and lifelong brotherhood. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Ceramic Engineering in 1969 and a Master of Science in Ceramic Engineering in 1971. While at Clemson, he was an active member of Delta Kappa Alpha / Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and the University varsity golf team.
On October 12, 1974, Allen married Pam, whom he lovingly called his "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch." Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, faith, and family. While living in Cincinnati, Ohio, they welcomed their firstborn son in 1977, Joseph "Joe" Allen Carroll III, proudly continuing the name, a legacy Allen cherished deeply. Two years later, in 1979, they welcomed their daughter, Margaret Gill "Gillie" Carroll, his beloved princess.
In 1982, the family settled in
Lilburn, Georgia, where Allen began what would become a long and fulfilling career with Applied Ceramics, Inc. He remained with the company until his retirement, serving as General Sales Manager. Allen was uniquely gifted in his work, able to connect personally with customers while also speaking fluently about the science behind ceramics, combustion rates, and engineering principles. He loved his work and was deeply valued by colleagues and clients alike.
Above all else, Allen loved Jesus. He was a devoted member of Lilburn First Baptist Church since 1985, where he served faithfully as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and tireless volunteer for children, students, and adults. His faith was steady and lived out daily. His favorite scripture, Psalm 23, reflects the trust and peace that guided his life. His faith was not just spoken; it was lived, consistently, and humbly.
Allen maintained a lifelong passion for golf. He loved watching it, playing it, and talking about it, often while lamenting his short game, despite being an excellent golfer. He enjoyed many years at the country club where he played the game he loved.
Allen was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Allen Carroll Sr., his mother, Grace Dudley Carroll, and his sister, Jean Carroll Holland.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Pamela "Pam" Gladden Carroll; his son Joseph "Joe" Allen Carroll III and his wife Connie, and their children Kaitlin, Faith, Joseph "Joey" Allen Carroll IV, and Phoenix; his daughter Gillie Carroll D'Agostino and her husband Mike, and their children Dean and Marissa. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and an adoring grandfather. Allen found his greatest joy at home, where he loved spending time with his family; playing games, sharing laughter, telling stories, and simply being together, moments he treasured above all else.
Allen Carroll will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his deep love for his family, his integrity, and his joyful commitment to serving others. His life was one of purpose, consistency, and grace, and he will be deeply missed.
