John Calhoun Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bill Head Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc. Lilburn-Tucker Chapel on Feb. 11, 2026.
John Charles Calhoun, born December 2, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, passed away on February 9, 2026.

John was a devoted husband, father, and servant to others whose life was marked by integrity, generosity, and quiet skill. He spent his life building not only a career, but also a family and a community grounded in faith, craftsmanship, and service.

John was married for 56 years to his beloved wife, Catherine Calhoun, whom he met while serving in the United States Army. He enlisted in 1967 and served as a draftsman, a role that reflected both his technical ability and attention to detail. That period of service marked the beginning of a partnership that endured through decades of shared life and love.

After completing his mechanical engineering degree at the University of Texas at Arlington, John pursued a career as an engineer and spent his professional life working in information systems with AT&T, where he was respected for his diligence, intelligence, and reliability.

Outside of work, John found great joy in woodworking. From finely finished furniture to hand-built decks and picnic tables, his projects reflected both skill and care. Many of his creations became gathering places for family and friends-lasting reminders of his desire to build things meant to be used, shared, and enjoyed.

John was deeply committed to service, particularly within his church and local community. He was a key member of the church gardening committee at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where he spent many years helping to maintain the grounds. He also devoted time to preserving the historic Wynne-Russell House in Lilburn and served on the City of Lilburn Architectural Committee, offering his expertise in service to the community he loved.

A passionate volunteer, John donated many gallons of blood through the American Red Cross and served for years as a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America, continuing his involvement even after his sons had moved beyond scouting. He believed strongly in serving others and living his faith through action.

John is survived by his wife, Catherine Calhoun; his two sons, Noel H. Calhoun and Nathaniel C. Calhoun; and his three grandchildren, Emily, Jake, and Jacob, who will forever cherish his example of devotion, humility, and generosity.

A visitation will be held at Bill Head Funeral Home, 6101 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA 30084, on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Lilburn, Georgia, on Friday, February 13 at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John's memory to Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP).
