Nancy Bridges Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home - Grand Prairie on Feb. 12, 2026.
Nancy Bridges, 74, of Grand Prairie, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

She was born November 28, 1951, in Dallas, Texas, to the late Olan Dewey McMurry and Elizabeth Ann Heavin.

Nancy was a devoted educator, community leader, and lifelong advocate for public education. She leaves behind a legacy of service, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to children and families in Grand Prairie.

A proud product of Grand Prairie ISD, Nancy attended John Adams Middle School and graduated from Grand Prairie High School. Her dedication to the district spanned more than four decades. She retired from GPISD in June 2019 after 42 years of distinguished service. During her career, she served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and director, ultimately retiring as Deputy Superintendent of Business Operations. Her leadership influenced countless students, educators, and programs throughout the district.

In June 2023, Nancy was sworn in as a GPISD Board Trustee, continuing her lifelong commitment to public education. She firmly believed education is foundational to every child's future and remained focused on student achievement, student safety, and career and college readiness.

Nancy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Texas. She later completed her Master's degree in Education and obtained her Mid-Management Certification from UNT. In addition to her work in K–12 education, she served as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Arlington and supervised student teachers at Dallas Baptist University, mentoring the next generation of educators.

Her commitment to service extended well beyond the school district. Nancy was actively involved in numerous civic and community organizations. She served as President of Children First, Treasurer of Kids, INC., and President of the Grand Prairie Women's Sorority. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Grand Prairie, the Grand Prairie Police Academy Alumni Association, the Grand Prairie Woman's Club, and the Educator Preparation Program Advisory Board at Dallas Baptist University. She was also a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie.

Nancy found great joy in spending time with her family, traveling, and continuing her service on various boards and committees.

She is survived by her son, Russell Bridges, and his wife, Catherine Bridges; her grandson, Rusten Bridges; her brother, Steve McMurry and his wife, Liz McMurry; her sister, Julie Churchill; and many friends and extended family members.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Ronny Bridges, and her grandson, Rex Bridges.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 16, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie, 950 Mayfield Road, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052. Dr. Bill Skaar will officiate. Following the service, a private family burial will take place at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Children First of Grand Prairie in Nancy's name: 621 NW 6th Street, Grand Prairie, Texas 75050, or online at www.childrenfirstinc.org.

Arrangements are entrusted to Guerrero-Dean Funeral Home under the direction of Aaron King, Funeral Director.

My deepest condolences for your loss. Ms. Bridges played an important part in my life journey starting with hiring me at Hector P. Garcia as a young professional to walking me through some difficult personal and professional experiences. She was one of my work moms and throughout the years was always just a phone call away. She had so much love for our students and families at GPISD advocating for them at every turn. I am deeply saddened to learn of her passing. Nunca te olvidare Ms. Bridges.
