Sherry DeBorde Obituary

Visit the Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home website to view the full obituary.

Sherry Ann Seelye DeBorde, a native Dentonite, was born in Denton, Texas, on August 6, 1943. She always loved Denton and, after spending several years in Mansfield, Arlington, and Sioux City, Iowa, returned to Denton County in the mid-1970s to stay.

Sherry earned a bachelor’s degree in English and Library Certification from the University of North Texas and later a master’s degree in English from the University of Texas at Arlington. She spent many years as a teacher and school librarian, retiring from public education in the late 1990s. She then enjoyed several fulfilling years in sales of materials to libraries, followed by work as a local realtor. In 2014, she retired for good and began wholeheartedly enjoying her family and wide circle of friends, including those at Robson Ranch, in Flower Mound, throughout Denton, and among the many librarians she had known over the years.

She loved spending time on her back porch, reading constantly, with her trusty Diet Coke at hand. She cherished the view of pastures and cows with her beloved Denton in the distance. A lifelong learner, Sherry not only encouraged reading and education in others but also published several novels of her own. Retirement suited her well, and she delighted in what she called her “should-less” days — time with nothing much she had to do.

Sherry is survived by her son, David Scott DeBorde, his wife Katie, and their two boys, Cael and Mitchell, of Highland Village; her daughter Kristal Land and her husband John, who moved from Frisco to their lovely lake home on Cypress Springs; their children, Kendall and Kal; and her youngest daughter, Lindsey DeBorde, who has returned to North Texas after years of serving the country at various U.S. embassies with the State Department. In recent years, Sherry’s family “tribe” grew even larger with the joyful arrival of four great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her more happiness than time spent with her family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Dorothy and Lonzo Seelye of Bowie, and her younger brother, Ed Seelye. She now joins them and other loved family members in Heaven with her Lord, secure in her faith and in what He did for her on the cross.

A simple memorial will be held at 9:30 AM Friday, March 6, 2026 in the chapel of Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust St., Denton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

While Mom wrote much of this herself years ago, what she could not fully capture is how deeply she loved her family and how fiercely proud she was of each of us. Her back porch, her books, and her Diet Coke were happy places — but her greatest joy was always her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We will miss her wit, her curiosity, and her steady presence more than words can say.
