Hello,
We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Terry W. Prater US Army Staff Sergeant.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

Like Top said, it's hard to believe it's been 10 years. That day plays over in my head often, and the memory is as fresh as if it happened yesterday. The kids are so grown and amazing, and I thank you for making them such a huge part of my life. I am honored to be so close to them, and to have watched them grow up to what they are today. I know you are looking down at them, proud of what they are and what they will be. Your memory will never fade, and unfortunately, neither will the taste of your burnt deer kabobs, haha. Miss you. Yours truly, Gangsta Boo

Hey Terry, It's hard to believe it's been ten years. Not a day goes by that I don't think about you and all the Boys, or something reminds me of you guys. Like yesterday I saw a post of the Nickleback concert, and that just reminded me of when I met up with you and Amy to give you some tickets to go see them that I had won from some radio contest, and Josh made fun of you for going to watch them, Lol. Every year that Dallas hosts the Polar Express for Gold Star families, I try real hard to make sure I get to see and spend time with the Amy's and the kids! This year they all got to come out to the FARM and spend time with us (me and Jeff). They got to hang out with all our animals, Madisen and Messa put up our Christmas tree because Jeff and I were to lazy! Haha, but the best part was watching the kids fish! Madisen is such a beautiful girl and growing up fast! She is smart and has this infectious smile that would make your day! Looks just like her Mama! And Bryson, Brother he looks so much like you! Only taller! Haha, but he's an amazing young man. He has all of your traits. He's intelligent, motivated, ambitious, caring, and is going to make one hell of a leader in what ever walk of life he chooses! Watching him fish, and the way he moves, and his mannerisms...was like watching you standing there! You must be so proud looking down on them...I'm proud for you! They will always be part of my family Brother no matter the distance! I miss you My Brother! One day me and Krusty will meet up with you and the Boys again! Rest easy Brother, Much Love!

Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. It was an honor to ride with The Patriot Guard Riders to stand for this hero who stood for us. The ride to the lake and the service on the water to bring Sgt. Prater to his final resting place was a very moving experience. The opportunity to play "Amazing Grace" on the flute as it echoed across the lake was one of the most proudest moments of my life. The courage and strength of Sgt. Prater's widow and son will always have a place in my heart, as will his memory.

Hey Bro, I'm back in Korea again, I cant believe it was 3 years ago that you welcomed me to the PLT. I learned so much from you, 7 years younger than me, but like a mentor, a "big" brother, you were the template of an infantryman... something all ground-pounders should try to emulate. I think of you everyday, more than once a day usually. It still hurts so much, I'm still so angry... I see you and some of the other guys sometimes, its weird... I know, but it never stops. I miss you alot bro, you and Ryan, and Arnold, Nick Lightner, Eddy Brand, and Coon. I guess mostly I miss the way you always made sense of the situation, stayed calm, communicated clearly, took care of your soldiers, and ALWAYS completed the mission. You were, are, and always will be a HERO to alot of us...... I MISS YOU TERRY

I am sending this email to the family of Terry Prater. This past weekend I ran in a race to honor our Veterans and I ran the race in honor of Terry. His picture and story was with me during the whole race and inspired me to finish. My 6 year old son brought the picture and story to school on Monday to share with his 1st grade class. I am sorry for your loss and hope that happy memories warm your heart. Terry sounds like a wonderful man and I am saddened by his tragic death but inspired by his bravery. May his wife and children take comfort in knowing that they had a special man in their life even if it was for just a short time. Your family will be in my prayers this holiday season.
May God Bless the whole Prater Family.

Your name is now on the wall of fallen First Cav soldiers, and the ceremony is next week. But that will not be the end of the rememberance of you. Although you and I may have had our rough patches, lol, I still have so much honor and respect for you. Dont stop watching us, cuz we never stop thinking of you. There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

" If you could see me now" If you could see me now you wouldn't shed a tear. Though you may not understand why I'm no longer there. Remember my spirit that is the real me because I'm still very much alive, I've just been set free, Oh if you could only see! I have beheld our Father's face and I've touched my Saviour's hand. All of Heaven's angels rejoiced when I entered the promised land. Beyond the gates of pearl, I've walked on the golden streets. I've touched walls of jasper and dipped my foot in the crystal sea. The beauty is beyond words and nothing could compare. I've seen your mansion and someday I'll meet you there. Let Jesus be your guide because His word will show you the way! So please don't cry because we'll meet again someday"

Thinking of you:
Please accept my deepest sorrow on the loss of your beloved son; he was a brave American, a great soldier, and an honorable man. He was doing what he wanted to do and he was where he wanted to be, doing his duty. His life was not given in vain, but stands forever in the fight for freedom. His name will live forever and 100 years from now, long after our names are forgotten, his name will burn bright in the history of this great nation. He died for what he believed in and his sacrifice is felt by millions of Americans. I can say no words to help you, because there are no words that will help you; only time and God will give you the peace and comfort that I hope you can find. It will take much time to heal from this loss and may God help you during this difficult time. As a Vietnam Veteran, please accept my prayers and please know that I am praying for you in this, the saddest time of your life. Millions of people are praying for you and may God give you strength.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
March 18, 2007
To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

It is with the deepest sadness that I ask the family and friends of this brave young Soldier to accept the offer of my most sincere and heart felt condolences. I hope that you know that your loss is shared and mourned by millions of Americans. Most of whom you don’t know and in all probability will never meet. We sincerely appreciate the sacrifices made by your patriot.
Freedom is not free; it is paid for by our heroes, and for those who fight for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know! This soldier made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
I know the pain parents feel when they loose a child. I lost a son 19 years ago. It is a pain that defies description. It is a pain that never goes away. It is a pain that will never end. It is a pain that is all consuming.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
May God Bless and keep you today, tomorrow and forever!
Rest in Peace brave soldier; you did your duty with great honor, dedication, distinction and in the highest traditions of our great country.
