Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of James David Connell Jr. US Army Sergeant 1st Class.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

With deepest respect to the family of Sfc. Connell. My name is David Freeman. I attended basic training from Aug 2002 - Nov 2002 as recruit roster number 317 with B Co. 2/58th Inf. Rgt. at Sand Hill, Ft. Benning, Ga. James was my Drill Sgt. I had the highest amount of respect for him then and I will continue to have it until the day I die. I would like like to say that I looked to him as a son looks to his father. He taught me everything I know about soldiering. I fought in Iraq with A Co. 2/3 Inf. 3 SBCT 2 ID from Nov. 03 - Nov 04 and I would like to say that I believe my survival of the deployment can be greatly attributed to the time James spent pounding me into being the best. My heart is broken at his loss and I would like to extend my love to all of his family. Please know that he will never be forgotten. A true patriot. If you would like to talk with me you can email me at [email protected] God bless.

I just wanted to thank James Connell Jr. (Drill Sarge Connell as I knew him) and his entire family for this hero's service in the United States Army. I met him back in 2004 when I enlisted in the Infantry. I have talked about him throughout the years and always admired him for the strong American and elite Soldier that I knew. He comes up in conversation ever now and then with friends and family because of the impact he left in my life and the great memories I have of him. He called me 'triple deuce' at Benning because my roster number was 222. After all these years I was trying to look him up because of a conversation I had with my wife and was deeply sadden to see that he had fallen. You have a great family here First Sarge! Thank you and Salute!

Tiger was our nephew. We are so proud of him. He lives in our hearts and we miss him terribly. We see the agony his death has put his family through as we stand by helpless. We love his children: Nick, Courtney, Brian and Ashley. Also his parents Jim and Sue. Grief has taken its toll but we pray God will help them. Tiger was a soldier in every sense of the word. It was his life and he loved it. He didn't lose his life he gave his life. He lives on in our hearts and he always will. We also want to say to his brothers and sister and their families we know this has been very hard on you also. You have suffered a great loss. There will always be a void in your life but you can hold on to the good memories you have. We love you all. Uncle Charles & Aunt Joan.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know James, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Coach Connell was not only a fellow coach to me he was my friend, I think of him often and miss my firend. I recall sitting in Iraq talking about football as we laughed and planned for how we were going to coach when we returned the following summer. I miss you! everytime I walk on to the field to coach a game I think of you and our time together in watertown. see you when my time here is done and if there is football in heaven I am sure I will see you on the sidelines someday.

My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to the family of James Connell. Thanks for your Soldier's Courage, Service and Dedication to our Country and Freedom.
The price he and his family have paid, will never be forgotten.
In the days to come if you find yourself feeling like you can‘t go on , recall the years and days you were blessed by his presence, this is the one thing that cannot be taken away from you are your memories, may you find comfort there and may God’s Peace strengthen you through the difficult days ahead and the emptiness in your hearts!
I am the Sister of a hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in 2005 in Taji, Iraq and time does make it hurt less.

"And God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes,
there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying,
there shall be no more pain.
For the former things have passed away."

Thank you for the sacrifice made by Sgt 1st Class Connell and the sacrifice made by everyone who loves and misses him! May God bless all of you!!

August 14, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

I cannot put into words what I want to say.So Ill say thanks to a true hero and his family.

Mike Martinez

May 28, 2007

To the Connell family. My name is Mike Martinez, and I am a singer in Nashville. I had the privelege of meeting David a few weeks back when we were performing in Nashville. During each break I would sit with him and chat. At one point I asked him if he minded that I mention him to the crowd and he had no objection. Everyone in the room stood up and applauded him and what he was doing for our country. Although I only spent a brief while getting to know him, I was heart broken to here of his passing. Each night that I play, I take a moment to mention his name to the crowd and what an honor it was to meet him, and without fail the entire room applauds him. I am sincerely sorry for your loss.

May 28, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

To the Connell family,
My deepest sympathies and regrets go out to you. I worked with SFC Connell in 2nd platoon, B Co, 2-58 IN for quite some time. It is very hard to find words to even possibly comfort you at your time of need, but I can tell you that what I learned about him most of all during that time is that family always came first. I remember times when he would leave to coach a football game or take time with all of you.
He will be missed by everyone that knew him, and I can only be thankful that I was able to get to know him, if only for a little while. Continue to take care of yourselves and each other and know that he will never be forgotten.

To the family of SFC Connell I extend my condolences. I served with SFC Connell when he first arrived at FT Drum. He was my platoon seargent at the time. He was a great leader and friend. He had a great sense of humor and shared his experiences with us for us all to learn from. SFC Connell is a true hero and will be greatly missed. You will never be forgotten.

To the Family of Coach James David Connell, please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

The Watertown Red and Black Semi-pro football team suffered its toughest loss last Saturday. Learning the death of Dave has torn our hearts. Dave was a great friend and coach. It was his coaching techniques in 2005 and 2006 that helped us win the EFL Northern division Championship in 2006. He left a few weeks before that final game, but he kept in contact through emails.

Please check out our website at www.eteamz.com/watertownredandblack to see what he meant to us. He is our hero.

We will see you in Arlington on Friday.

Sincerely,
George Ashcraft, Diana and family
And the Watertown Red and Black Semi-pro football family

I want Nick, Courtney, and Bryan to know that we all thought the world of your dad. We will miss him and we will miss you being a part of the Watertown Red and Black family. Your father was a good man doing what he believed in. I know this is a tough time for you kids, but please, stay in school, continue to get good grades and continue to make your father proud.

" IF YOU COULD SEE ME NOW" If you could see me now you wouldn't shed a tear, though you may not understand why I'm no longer there. Remember my spirit, that is the real me because I'm still very much alive, I've just been set free, Oh if you could only see! I have beheld our Father's face and I've touched my Saviours hand. All of Heaven's angels rejoiced when I entered the promised land. Beyond the gates of pearl I've walked and dipped my foot in the crystal sea. The beauty is beyond words and nothing could compare, I've seen your mansion, and someday I'll meet you there. Let Jesus be your guide because His word will show you the way! So please don't cry, because we'll meet again someday!
