4 years it has been and i do miss you indeed,it's amazing how many lives you have touched. it's funny i just got back from a deployment myself, and i met back up with some of the guys that were with us in B 2/12 so long ago. i dont know if that is coincidence or not, i like to think that it was just intended, whatever the reason i'm glad you were able to touch my life and i hope i positively impacted yours.

Dustin,
Along time has passed since we last saw one another. May 28, 2007 you held me in your arms as I was injured that night by a grenade. I remember it like it was yesterday just as I remember when we first met in Colorado and immediately became best friends, brothers who cared for eachother. I remember that night that I got hurt and the last thing that you were ever able to say to me, Dont leave me Justin, I cant do this without you. Exactly a month after my injury while I was shipped back to the states to recover you passed away. Your words have stuck with me throughout these days and the wonderful memories that we shared together. I honestly can say that Im not sure why I'am now wirting you. Maybe because im in the Korengal Valley of Afgahnistan where the fifghting and livin conditions are that of a feuding third world country and the over whelming odds against us are deafing. It is much worse here than anywhere else in this war. I can honestly see why it is known as the valley of death by all units taht have been here before. I think I write you now to let you know taht not a day goes by that I dont wonder if you are looking down on me and are proud of me. I miss you alot buddy and Im a better man for having spent the time I did with you. Some new things have changed in my life. I was promoted to Staff Sergeant in sept this year. I came up fast didnt I. HAHA. I also have married a wonderfull woman and we have been married over two years now. We have been blessed with my son Layne, who was born on June 16, 2009. I was not able to be there for the birth nor have I even met my son yet because of this deployment but I pray that you are proud of me and how I turned my life around. Nothing I have ever done makes me more proud to be that boys father Dustin, I wish he could have met you and had a wonderful uncle like you. Well Buddy I pray that your family is ok and I wish them well. im sorry it has taken me so long to write you this isnt my first attempt. Im gonna go try to finsh this deployment up and then Im getting out of the army. I will always remember you and cherish the friendship you showed me. You have helped me more than you will ever know buddy. Take care and may you rest in peace. Also do me a favor and give those angels hell up there good friend.
With all my heart buddy. I miss you and love you Dustin.

Thank You all....my family and I are very surprised of how many people signed this...im DLW II's little sister...and we thank you and here is a poem that decribes the loss....
The Broken Chain
We little knew that morning
That God would call your name
In life we loved you dearly
In death we do the same
It broke our hearts to lose you
You did not go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home
You left us peaceful memories
Your love is still our guide
And though we can not see you
You are always at our side
Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same
But as God calls us one by one
The chain will link again...
that is a very speacial poem we cherish...I thank you again...
Dustins little sister,

indeed it is always said that when we lose a soldier that it was his time, or that he gave his life for a noble cause, but i have to say that none of that comforts you. to lose someone you truly care about is something that no words, no matter how great or how well placed can change. The movie band of brothers can only show how much it truly means to lose someone you've served with.
DLW will truly be missed. my prayers are with his family and anyone who truly knew him.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Dustin, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Losing Dustin doesn't diminish this great nation; it strengthens it by adding just a little bit more courage and devotion to duty to the foundation of the United States. All who fall in defense of our country deserve our enduring gratitude. How can we thank them? We can remember their sacrifices and do our utmost to live honorable lives in freedom and to do our part when called upon to serve in any we we can to make this country even greater.

I pray that we never take that for granted, and send our deepest sympathy to the family of this brave young man.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Thank you young man, for the ultimate sacrifice you made for your family, your country and the freedoms we all take for granted at times. We all were able to celebrate Independence Day because of your sacrifice and that of countless others who gave their lives for us. Your family is facing the hardest thing a parent can...the loss of a child. As parents who have lost a son , an only child, I would say to them, "one day at a time", and to you...We salute you and know you are in Heaven enjoying perfect peace.

Dustin was a great guy every one loved him who knew him. He will always be missed but he will never be forgoten. He was a good friend to everyone he knew. I remember summers with dustin in greenwood playing basketball, and just running around every day. Me and Dustin grew up together. I just want to his family how sorry that i am for there loss. But he loved what he did. Dustin we all love you and you will be missed.

Gayle, I know that Dustin will not remember me but share with him that it is because I remember him as a child that made me read the obituary to see if it was his son. My love and sympathy to all of your family. My prayers will be that the love of God will give you comfort and peace in your hearts. I will let Glenda know and be sure that you will have her love and prayers as well. She has a grandaughter that goes back to Iraq this month for a second tour of duty. We share your loss of a courageous young military man serving all of us. With love, Joy Pearson

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am, for the loss of Spc. Dustin L. Workman.
As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly and having lost a brother to war... I am aware of the deep and devastating pain that you are experiencing. The overwhelming heartache, that seems to surface through our shock, as the time passes.
Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.
May the memories of your Brave Young Soldier, remain in your heart always and give you strength through the difficult days ahead, and may Dustin Rest Safely now, in the Loving Care of God and know that he Will Never Be Forgotten.
I pray that the Peace of God will be with the Workman family.
I am the sister, of such a 19 year young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

Know in your heart that you are a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.
To the family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.
