Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Kitowski Family know that we have made a small donation to The Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund to honor and remember Charles B. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals across the American youth hockey community and beyond. Wow! After reading some much neglected email, today I found out Charles will finally be inducted into our alma mater's "Hall of Honor" @ St. Thomas H.S.
I lobbied hard to induct him 3 years ago by trying to rally everyone from my class to nominate him for this honor. It looks like this year was finally his year to get inducted with some of the finest men STH has produced alongside Congressmen, Bishops, Philanthropists and all manner of people befitting this honor. I'm so happy for Chuck & his family right now that I'm in tears....

Charles -
I met a girl at a wedding reception on your Birthday who had just recently lost a dear friend suddenly. I saw myself and all of our friends in her eyes and was to able to empathize with her completely. I talked to her about how your sudden passing altered so many ways that I look at people and life in general. I shared with her that through loss, unexpected bonds with mutual friends grew and promised her that how distraught she feels right now will evolve into a level of understanding and acceptance in time. Just after I got home, that statement was proven true. Vickie reached out to me and added me to a growing online toast conversation for with Brian, Brandt, Bao, Julie, Dan and Arlene. We chatted, told stories, toasted you (and Wade), laughed and cried.
You might be gone, but as promised, you are never forgotten.
Hugs,

Trey, it will be 6 years on Monday the 12th that you left us in a physical sense. The days and months following t were sad for us all. Time does make the sadness lessen but 6 years has gone by and i can tell you that you are still missed. Your birthday is on Saturday. I was thinking of your past birthdays and the surprise birthday that we threw for you before you left. You will always be #1 kid, I plan on celebrating the day not being sad but heading down to TC and having a cold drink as we did so many times before you left. I would tell all your friends to do the same. Lift your glass to Trey Boy and remember the good times. There were so many, I smile just thinking of one or two. You had that effect on making us all smile. Happy Birthday Bud....

Chuckles....I am so sorry brother. I just found out today 15APR2013 that anything had happened. I had no idea this happened to you. I found out by accident of all things. You helped me get through basic training, you were the unofficial big brother that helped us all succeed. I remember you and me helping Hancock dress himself and be on time for formation so what way we wouldn't all get smoked. Your example is what I followed when I deployed to Iraq in 2007-2008. I will never forget running into you down at the MUICH in Ft. Bragg and helping to train you before you left, and on my hands and knees with you with flashlights for 2 hours until we found your St. Christopher medal that had fallen in that gravel pathway. The "Grim Reapers" down at Ft. Jackson and all of USACAPOC truly lost one of their finest, brother. I miss you and I will visit you soon down in Texas. See you someday on the other side brother, God bless you. Belated as it may be, you and your loved ones will be in my prayers.

August 10th and 12th are days that have forever been altered in level of significance since we lost Charles. Bookends of celebration and sadness, birth and death. For 5 years now, we have waded through myriads of emotions. And in the years that follow, we will continue to do the same. Above all, everyone who knew Charles loved him. He brought people together and continues to today.
While grocery shopping today, I found an appropriately named flower I had never seen before - Peace Lilies - and bought several bunches in hopes for just that - peace - for everyone.

Charles, I'm out at Ft. Hunter Liggett, doing my MOS reclass to get into Civil Affairs. I never got to work with you, being a knuckle-dragging 11B trigger-puller, but I hope to do you proud as a USACAPOC soldier.
I remember before we went over to Iraq in `07 I was so full of hate and fury. I wanted to make that place overflow with blood. It was why I woke up in the morning.
Over Thanksgiving, though, something changed. It had to be you, Charles, reminding me of the right way, that mayhem and murder was what they did, and fighting as defenders and protectors is what we did. While I am still troubled about some of my experiences, I really believe you reached out to me, brother, and saved me that Thanksgiving.
I still remember my promise. One more to go. But I'm sure you wouldn't mind a few extras.
"For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."
--Henry V, Act 4, Scene 3

Trey,
I can't believe it's been four years since you left us. You'll always be that little tow headed kid chasing the bigger kids down the road at the family reunion at Uncle Carol's, trying to keep up. I'm glad when I moved to Texas I was able to get to spend some time with you and get to know you as the man you grew into. The man I knew was kind and never spoke a bad word about others. He was generous with his time and didn't give a second thought to helping others whether they be family, friend or animal. You gave your life for a cause that you believed in when most of the rest of us were content to let someone else do the fighting for us. It was my honor to know you and I'll always be proud to call you family. We miss you always!
