Many years ago my minor hockey travelled from NS to Quincy to participate in a hockey tournament. I stayed with Rob and his family and the following year he stayed with us when his team came to NS to play in the SEDMHA tournament. On a random week night a few days ago I stumbled upon the documentary "Danger Close". I didn't clue in that the Rob Perelli in the documentary was the same person I stayed with all those years ago until his father was interviewed and jogged my memory after a few quick google searches. Rob you became a hero to your family and country, rest in peace.

Rob, thank you for your sacrifice. Since I graduated, I had no idea about your life after high school until your death. We were teammates and although we were not close outside of the locker room, I think of you and what you gave up for our great country so very often. I am proud to have taken the ice with you and thank you for the freedom and safety my family and I enjoy each and every day.

Son
They say there is a reason
They say that time will heal
But neither time nor reason
Will change the way I feel
For no one knows the heartache
That lies behind this smile,
No one knows how many times
I have broken down and cried,
Rob, I want to tell you something
So there won't be any doubt,
You're so wonderful to think about,
But very hard to live without
I cannot bring the old days back,
When we were all together
Our family chain is broken now,
But my Memories live on forever

June 6, 2011

I didn't know Rob personally in life. I was in 3-10 and I heard his firefight over the radio that day. It was a sad day. He had a great reputation. I have not forgotten and will not forget him.

Next week I'm leaving to do a climb up Mount Kilimanjaro (highest peak in Africa) and I am dedicating it to our wounded & fallen comrades (http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/climbkilimanjaro/flanagan?fge=ask). I plan to take Rob's photo up to the roof of Africa to honor him (unless you oppose). I would be interested in taking his dog-tags or other special memento if you (his family) are interested. Please email me to let me know ([email protected]). I fly out on 14 Jun 2011. This is the only way I could figure out to get in touch with you...

I am sure Rob is with God now and I hope that you, his family, are all well. If you need anything, I'll be in the area for grad school for the next year.

Respectfully,
Steve Flanagan

Son, as Sunday approaches,I think about all your team brothers and what they have done for our family. I know its tough for them everyday as they try to move on in their lives. I thank God that I have them to talk to and visit, even if its just to chat and comfort one another from time to time. I really don't know what I would do without them,as they are the closest we have in having a big part of you still. I just want you to know that they mean so much to us. Your team brothers Tim, Chris, Aaron, Don, Jason, Jim, Kevin, Zac, Scott, Kole, Brady, and Pat(RIP) as they all and so many more of your extended family supported us during our troubled time, and they will forever be loved and remembered by all of your family and friends. Rest now Son,and know that we will always be there for all you have touched with your friendship and bravery.

Robbie, met your dad again and I know you would have been a joy to know because if you were half the guy he is (and he will state you were twice) you were/are a blast. You and your family are in our prayers as we are forever linked by having lost a child in war. When your dad tells of you his eyes light up and he sure makes us laugh. We have come a long way and have so far to go but I share the honor, respect, and pride your dad has for you. With each breath I take I will honor your service and sacrifice. More than that I will honor your life because you live through your dad and his stories of you. Thank you for your service.
