Gardens of Stone
.
Will you lay me down, in a garden of stone;
When your needs are great, will you lead me home?
.
Should my load grow hard, will you help me then;
In my darkest hour, as will stand and defend?
.
When I am sent away, to a foreign land;
Marching a thousand miles, through the burning sand;
And wipe the blood from my face, with your trembling hand;
if I give myself for you?
.
Will you write my name, in the Book of Life;
When my time draws near, in my toils and strife?
Will you remember me then, when I'm dead and gone;
And my life is done, will you still remember me?
.
When I am sent away, to a foreign land;
Marching a thousand miles, through the burning sand;
And wipe your tears away, with my dying hand;
if I give myself for you?
.
Would you lay me down, in a garden of stone;
will you still remember me?
.

I never had the honor of personally knowing or serving with Aaron. In fact, it's unfortunate the only way I learned of him was because of his death. From what I have read about him, Aaron was an honorable man that loved God, his family and his country. I will pay tribute to his memory by running half marathon in his honor this weekend (18 Sep 10) at the Air Force Marathon in Dayton, Ohio. I will carry his name on my back and his sacrifice in my heart for the 13.1 mile race. REST IN PEACE SOLDIER.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Aaron, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

The Great Paint Ball Wars I
Roscoe Parr
July 14, 2008
Hello Dear Friends and Family,
My beloved mother Shirley Parr has found in her files and sent me these photographs that bring back one of my favorite times. "The Great Paint Ball Wars". Some of my dearest friends Darryl, Annie, AJ, Alex, and Andee Walker have been to mine, Kim, and John's big yard to have great fun and fellowship in the past. Some of you might have known of this or even participated. In many of these visits there were a series of what I refer to as "The Great Paint Ball Wars". These photographs are of the first of the series of these wars. This one was before AJ joined the US Army.
In one of the photographs is my son John, Darryl, a friend Chris Griffin, and AJ. This was my favorite of the wars. In this one a funy tale is to be told. On a back corner of our yard is a dirt burm that stands over 6 feet tall. Since it is in a corner of the yard John and Chris decided that they would prepare for the war early in the day between them two and Darryl and AJ. They began early in the day fortifying the defenses of the dirt hill with wood and other barricades to hide behind. They built an impenetrable fortress for combat and were very proud of it.
Later the same day Darryl and AJ arrived ready for combat. It didn't take the veterans of Paint Ball Wars long to decide how to overcome the fortress. As each team met to discuss the game, no rules were laid out. The teams split up. John and Chris were confident in their safety.
They were shocked that it was several minutes that passed and they had no combat. This was a big surprise because the yard area was only two acres squared and it should have taken less that a couple of minutes for combat to begin.
The funniest thing was that since nothing was said about crossing fences, Darryl and AJ chose not to have a direct assault on the fortress as the boys expected, but rather to go out of sight of their opponents, hide in tree lines, outflank the position of the fortress and approach the fortress from the back side from two different directions.
We all laughed histerically as the boys were pelted repeatedly from behind by the great tactitioners. Finally the boys hopped around their barricades that they had so masterfully prepared in order to avoid too much destruction. It was a great day. I will never forget those days. Since I can not laugh with AJ about it anymore, maybe you will laugh with me at this fine memory and enjoy these photographs with me. Cherish the moments that you have.
With all of my Love.

My dear old friends Darryl, Annie, Ronnie, and the rest of the Walker/McLaughlin family,
I just learned of A.J.'s passing and want to extend my deepest condolences and love. I remember him as a sweet little boy, running around and sometimes (amazingly) sleeping as his uncle's band played. I know he was loved as much as anyone could be. May God be with you. I'm so happy for you that you were blessed to have him with you in this life.
Much love,

AJ and My son Shaun met when they were in the 9th grade. They became 2 peas in a pod. Their friendship was contagious and eveyone around AJ had a smile on thier faces or laughter. My husband and I are blessed to have had Aj spent time with us, to have had him in our lives. AJ loved my fried chicken and it was funny how he would always show up when supper was ready. "Super is ready", we would say, and expect AJ to knock on the door. Sure enough, there he was. Aj became like a son to us. I called him Mijito (my little son) and he loved it.
I have many memories but the one I just love is when I drove my husband Kelley, Shaun and Aj to the movies to see The Green Mile. I went shopping instead and when I picked them up, as I approached them with my vehicle, I saw the saddest faces walking up to me. When they got in the vehicle I saw tears in their eyes. So I asked, "How was the movie"? As all three wiped their tear, they said, "It was awesome"! This was the funniest thing and the most precious moment for me. Three big guys not ashamed of their feelings. If it were a commercial it would go something like this: 3 ticket to the movies.....$22.50, 3 cokes, 3 candy bars and one big bucket of popcorn......$25.75, three guys in tears watching The Green Mile......priceless. I miss you mijito, see you someday soon.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Hey AJ... I know you're in heaven now and that's where you said you always wanted to be. You always lived your life to the fullest. Never letting any fear keep you from experiencing everything this world had to offer-- Not even the fear of death. One time you told me that the Bible said "fear is not of God" and Jessica "if it's not of God then who else could it be from?" You may not realize it, but those words have stuck w/ me ever since that day.
I know that you don't want us to be sad for you right now, but knowing that I'll never see you on earth again is a hard thing to realize. I think that if I knew the last time I saw you was the very last time I'd ever see you I would've told you how much fun I always had w/ you (remember the time you skipped school to hang out w/ me?) And I probably would have told you how good of a friend you were (remember when you prayed w/ me at camp?) AJ-- just know that the short time God allowed you to His work was well spent. Your life touched more people than you'll ever know. I'm proud to have called you my friend

Dear AJ,
I am writing to you to let you know how much we miss you. Sometimes you don’t realize what you have, until you don’t have it anymore. I have spent the last week realizing what I will miss. I have had many friends young and old. Many are friends that I have conversation with in passing. Less are those that I socialize or hang out with. Less of those are younger friends that closely bond with me and my entire family. You are definitely in the inner circle AJ. I recall many times that you would come over to our house to hang out with us in a group setting or just by yourself. This I will miss.
AJ I really appreciate how you took a leadership role with my only child John in his life. He loves you and looks up to you just like an older brother. He always talked about AJ. He couldn’t wait until AJ would come over. He couldn’t wait to tell AJ about anything new in his life. He turned to AJ for advise in time of trouble. John could not wait until AJ got to come back home after his away assignment for the US Army. Since AJ was so cool and cares so much for John. John could not wait to have another great Paintball War at our house, since they have never been quite the same without AJ there. John could not wait until AJ got home to ride in John’s new truck. This bond of friendship I will miss.
I recall the funniest thing that you ever did was during a snack break at my house during one of our many Great Paintball Wars. You were fresh out of US Army Basic Training. We were all sitting in the living room enjoying our drinks, when you took some of you mischievous basic training skills and concocted a pepper gas device out of an MRE. You then tossed it the room that we were all in. You laughed and ran out, knowing what was next. It took a while for the thing to take full effect, but when it did it was wild. The entire house was filled with the overwhelming pepper gas. Everybody was coughing, laughing, and running out of the house. This I will miss.
I recall your youth leadership in GC Crew by example. When you were playing the drums during a powerful worship song, I remember you without hesitation stepping out from behind the drums and to the side. I remember you kneeling down on your knees and without shame raising your hands as you sang and worshipped your Lord Jesus. This I will miss.
AJ you have the heart of a giver. You have the desire to serve. You are as a first responder. Everybody runs away from the fight. You ran to the fight. To stand in the gap for those who were weak and unable. To protect those who needed a protector. From your friend. From the one that you volunteered to protect. On behalf of my family whom you chose to protect. To a True Hero. We love you AJ. We will miss you AJ.

I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

A message to the Dear Hero Angel - Aaron J. Walker ~~~~
thank you brave one for all that you have done, for all that you have given and for protecting me and my family during this time of war that faces our country. It is men exactly like you that allow moms just like me to sleep in peace, knowing that my home is safe and my family is protected from those who wish us nothing but hatred and fear. I salute you for your service and your love of our homeland.
To the family of this wonderful soldier -
Knowing that your son died a hero will probably bring little comfort during your time of grief. Hopefully knowing that a grateful American appreciates you, for raising such an unselfish and giving man, and is honored that your son was willing to give his life to keep our homeland safe - may bring you a little more comfort. May Spirit bless you and your family as you go through the worst possible time in your lives.
I am an Army Mom, an Air Force Wife, a Navy Niece and Marine's Cousin. I am thankful and I am blessed by your family and your son. Please know you are all in my prayers. Your Angel Hero is still watching over us all.
Please accept my deepest sympathies for the loss of your beloved child.
A Grateful and Blessed American

I am writing to offer my condolences to your family over the loss of your HERO Spc Aaron J Walker. I also lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a loved one so dear.
When things settle down, I recommend that you contact a man named Michael Reagan @
www.michaelgreaganartist.com
He will draw one portrait of the fallen soldier. He does this for free and will draw any picture of your choosing. He has drawn presidents and other celebrities. My husband and I got one and it has helped me with the healing process. Michael is a truly gifted artist that captures the very essence of the person he draws. I look at my picture everyday and it gives me a connection that I cannot explain.
I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.

With the deepest regret, I have just learned of the death of Specialist Walker. As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Newcomer, III and more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… his family!!!
