Luke, You're a very special soul and we all think of you often. You'll Never be forgotten by anyone you've ever come in contact with. As someone said in this book, we all have little things you did or said that will stay with us forever. I'll never forget how you slept with your eyes open, used to freak me out but could understand why. Your eyes had stories you lips would never speak. Rest in Peace my friend.

I still miss Luke sooo much. He's the most unforgettable man I will ever know...I think of him even everytime I put sugar in my tea, how he hated that. When I first was getting to know him and he stayed at my house I got up in the morning and cooked like 2 lbs of bacon because he was a big guy...wow did I get a lecture on how it clogs arteries and what not, I always concurred because even I don't eat the stuff- but I just wanted to take care of him because he was so great. Funny the things you remember when someone is gone. Miss you my love...

Luke
You were the most motivated and dedicated man I ever knew. I wish I had a tenth of what you had. You went above and beyond what the rest of us were willing to do. It's been 10 years this month since we first met and started on this path that's led us to where we are today. I doubt either of us ever thought this would be the way we'd end up having to talk. There's no doubt in my heart that you gave more than you had to and never let up for a second. You were and are the best.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Luke, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Well, I've looked at this guestbook several times over the last few days - Luke was such a great kid :) He worked with me in Panama City, FL while he was going through training - he was so excited to be not only a Hospital Corpsman but working with the Marines!! This just saddens me beyond and I wish I could have made his funeral..Mr. and Mrs. Milam, you should be very proud of your son - I was the minute I met him!! A Poem for Luke
The Soldier stood and faced his God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as brightly as his brass.
Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?
The soldier squared his shoulders
and said, No Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand,
I've never had that much in life,
So if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
Step forward now you soldier
You've borne your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

To All of Luke's Family...
Thank you for raising him to be such an amazing young man who knows the value of life and upheld those values daily through respect, laughter and love.

Mike and Rita; as I read the accounts of Luke's accomplishments and the dedication he had for 'his' Marines I feel very sorry I didn't have the chance to know him as an adult. It is truly my loss for, to me, he personifies the role model that is so sorely lacking in our country today. If there were more unselfish people like Luke I can only imagine how different things would be.
The memorial service had a profound impact on Lori and I. It was awesome to spend time with the 3 servicemen who were present at all the activities last Saturday. As you move forward with your lives please remember that there are a lot of people that will help, listen, cry, support and pray with you. I wish there was something I could do to lessen the pain and suffering you are going through. I pray for your family daily! Much Love; Dave.

To the family of Petty Officer 2nd Class, USN, Charles Luke Milam;
Our hearts have been with you every moment since we learned of Luke's fate. Word is spreading through II Recon, and families are praying for each of you. We learned of the heroic rescue of one of his Marines, and that the father of this young Marine praises God in thanksgiving for Luke's great sacrifice.
What a beautiful example of friendship Luke displayed to his Marines. There are so many verses of scripture to affirm the honor of Luke's extension of this loyalty . . .
"He who desires friends, must himself first be friendly." Proverbs 18:24a
A true friend loves at all times. Proverbs 17:17
"There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Proverbs 18:24b
"No greater love than this, than a man lay down his life for his friend." John 15:13
"Doc" was loved and respected by his Marines for whom he cared so very much. This friend never failed to demonstrate those Core Values of Courage, Honor, Commitment, and Loyalty.
Our journey with death began on May 1, 2006, but comfort has come in realizing that so many treasures are ours because of Cory's beloved friends and MarineBrothers.
Knowing what the ensuing months ahead may have in store for you, please know that our hope is for Luke's character and strength to be returned to you through joy.
The process is probably a lifetime, but we stand with you, beside you, and for you, in respectfully honoring your beloved son.
You may contact us anytime. May God's love surround you, His grace sustain you, and His comfort come to you. Godspeed and Semper Fidelis.

This was the first Military Honors Funeral I have ever attended and it touched me so deeply. I did not know Luke personally but my eyes were not dry the whole ceremony. He was such a great man and sailor. What he has done and accomplished in his lifetime makes me proud to be a US Sailor and serve my country. Mike and Re,
Luke was a wonderful young man, and my heart is breaking from the news of his death. I know you have always been very proud of him, and for good reason. God couldn't have given you a better son than Luke. We all loved him very much!
I will never forget him stopping by in his dress uniform - he looked so handsome! I keep telling myself that, just like Christ, his life wasn't taken from him - he gave it freely. Though it hurts so very bad, I know Luke would not want us to be sad. Isaiah I'm sure is very proud of Luke, and hanging out with him right now!

His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… his family!!!

Know in your heart that you are a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.
To the family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.

I am writing to offer my condolences to your family over the loss of your HERO Petty Officer 2nd Class Charles Milam. I also lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a loved one so dear.
When things settle down, I recommend that you contact a man named Michael Reagan @
www.michaelgreaganartist.com
He will draw one portrait of the fallen soldier. He does this for free and will draw any picture of your choosing. He has drawn presidents and other celebrities. My husband and I got one and it has helped me with the healing process. Michael is a truly gifted artist that captures the very essence of the person he draws. I look at my picture everyday and it gives me a connection that I cannot explain.
I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.

Michael & Rita,
The memorial you had Sunday for Luke was wonderful. I learned many new things about him and I'm so proud of him and his family. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow as he is honored and your family is comforted by friends, family, and his Navy/Marine family. I've read many articles online, wire reports, condolences, and I know this will help to sustain you in the days and months ahead. I'm so lucky to have known your dear son; he is very much a role model for all.
All my love, Susie

Dear Luke
I rmember you as a blond haired little boy with cherry stains all of your face. You, your brothers and sister and my two girls were supposed to be picking cherries for your Mom and me to make cherry jam. You grew up to be a brave, loving youn man who looked out for his comrads and fellow sailors/marines. I always admired your laugh, it was so natural and happy especially when you were with your parents Michael and Re and your brothers and sister. Please know how much the people of this country value you and the sacrifice that you've made for us. When I see on the news stories of gangs, and violent crimes, and poverty and anger in this country, I marvel at the young people like yourself who enlist in their nation's military to try and protect us here. You were a joyous, happy little boy, and you became a brave, and honorable young man. You will most certainly missed by us all. May God show His Blessings to you, you have certainly earned then.

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am, for the loss of Petty Officer 2nd Class Charles Milam. As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly and having lost a brother to war...I am aware of the deep and devastating pain that you are experiencing. The overwhelming heartache, that seems to surface through our shock, as the time passes. Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.
May the memories of your Brave Young Colorado Hero, remain in your heart always and give you strength through the difficult days ahead, and may Charles Rest Safely now, in the Loving Care of God and know that he Will Never Be Forgotten.
I pray that the Peace of God will be with the Milam family.
I am the sister, of such a young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
