This one hits close to home, because I just found out about this and went to school with his mother many years ago. They were a good, patriotic family, and, from the other postings, it appears he was a great soldier and great person. Condolences to the family.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Allen, but I am remembering

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear family of Cpl. Allen C. Roberts,

We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.

Very Sincerely

I just got back and settled in. I was going through my email and one thing led to another and I found this guestbook. I worked with Cpl Roberts in Yuma, Az and in Iraq. I don't really know what to say but I felt obligated to him to say something. He was a great guy. And I honestly think he had one of the kindest hearts of guys I know. Especially for being a Marine. But he pulled it off fine. Got along good with everyone. Well your gonna be missed Turbo. Take it easy up there.

Allen, it has been quite some time since we last talked. We lost touch for too long and I learned the hard way that you had left us. I was looking through the Coalition Casualties to see the names of the Marines that were killed with my boyfriend's unit, 1/8, based out of Camp Lejeune, NC. I always look for Marine's names, and just by pure curiousity, I kept looking further back and saw your name. I almost didn't believe it was the same Allen Roberts I used to talk to late at night or throughout the day. You always made me smile and knew how to make me laugh. You stuck by my side while I was going through a very difficult time. For that, I truly am grateful for having the chance to meet you and get to know you.

I hope you are resting in peace. And if you don't mind, please watch over my boyfriend while he's in Iraq, for just one more month.

I miss you so much and I my heart goes to your family. You are missed to greatly by so many.

RIP Allen.. I love you sweetie..

My son is serving in Iraq now and wrote us a touching letter about Cpl. Roberts' service. I just ran across this web site today so thought I would make an entry and hope his parents and family read this. My son said via letter: The service was very sad and extremely Marine Corps professional. The saddest parts were when they displayed the staged gear (rifle, helmet, boots, and dog tags) and made the Roll Call. In the Roll Call they called the three other members of his fire team, who were present and then they call the deceased member three times. Whey they don't answer, the Rifle Team Commander gives the commands to exesute a 21-gun salute. Right after that they play Taps. Everyone cried. I had only talked to him a few times when we were doing our changeovers from patrols to towers. He was a really nice guy and a good Marine all around. He said he wanted to become an EOD technician to make a bigger difference in the War on Terror...I feel bad for his family. My note: EOD is explosive ordinance disposal. My husband and I extend our sympathies. The deployment will be ending soon. God bless you and for your son's sacrifice. I never met him, but he sounds like a great son and a wonderful Marine.

My deepest sympathy on the loss of your son Allen. I was driving home from Florida to Chicago this past Monday and we made a quick stop in Arcola for gas. I looked over at a nearby hotel and the flag was at half staff. I said to my husband, I wonder if they lost someone in the war here. Then I saw the sign in front of the hotel and it read Semper Fi. I was so sad for this family, I knew it was a Marine lost. My heart goes out to you, I lost my Marine son in Dec. of 2005. Just know he has many brother Marines in heaven. Your son is a true hero and will never be forgotten. Semper Fi

December 13, 2007

There is never any phrase or words that can truly describe the loss that one feels for losing a fellow Marine, a friend, and family member. I just received word of your loss and I sit here numbly wondering what if anything to say. What can I say about Cpl Roberts. Day in and day out, we journey through the adventure that is our lives. How we interact with and treat others will be part of our legacy that we leave behind when it is our time to go. We hope as we move forward, that we have left something good to be remembered by. That somewhere in our lives, being here meant something. Someway, somehow, we made a difference. It can be difficult to realize the difference that we make in this world. I can tell you right now. Cpl Roberts made a difference. I was deployed aboard the USS Peleliu in 2006 with him. As I passed him in the passageways, he was always in good cheer with a kind word to say. When we needed help with anything, he was always ready to lend a hand. I know he made a difference in this world because he made a difference in mine. He did alot of good work that let the rest of us do ours. He definitely pulled his own weight as well as others when the times called for it. Fear not that your son did not leave a mark in this world, he did, and it shows in the lives of all of us who had the honor to serve with him. We will remember him always. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Turbo was always there for us. We will be here for you.

From one military mom to another, I cannot begin to imagine the pain you feel. I have been praying for you since I heard the news. December 7, 2007

Jaye,
Sorry for your loss, I haven't the words to express it fully. I went down to purchase a plaque for the Armed Forces Park in Old Town Yuma today, and they told me I was too late. Being a distant....cousin I'd guess you would call me....I felt obliged to put one up for him. To keep his plaque company with kinfolk from Illinois, today I asked for the privilege and honor of having mine next to his. I also asked the MCAS Public Affairs office and American Legion about a ceremony to give honor and thanks to the ultimate price he paid for God and Country. Robert Stauffer (a fellow Marine and long time friend) was there at the airport and said it was a tear jerker, but nowadays they do a very good job of honoring our fallen military, as they deserve.
Since leaving family and friends in Arcola, I've been working at Yuma Proving Ground for over seventeen years, attempting to further serve God and Country by testing and developing the best weapons our deserving troops need. I've many times expressed to my fellow YPG employees to maintain the highest standards, to protect those comrades in arms and family.....but sometimes that falls short in some very unfortunate cases as yours. Sorry that wasn't enough, but I will further dedicate myself to a higher level of attention to detail to ensure the mothers of our warriors have the best we can provide. My mother, Janet, told me as I walked away from the house on the farm, “to watch my P's and Q's” while away as a Marine. It didn't really hit me what my mom meant until losing your son Allen. A mothers love and loss is something that is a great burden to bear. It seems like yesterday that I was at your dads home picking up feed for our livestock. I am very sure that he, mom and dad, and young Allen are with God watching over us all.
Like we always say, the gates of heaven are guarded by our fallen Marines ---Semper Fidelis.
Please let me know if there is anything at all we can do for you.
Semper Fi.
God bless you.

".....I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. Yours very sincerely and respectfully, Abraham Lincoln."

Dear Jaye - I am so sorry for your loss. I am a friend of your sister, Janet Nacke's. I worked with her at J&M. Although I never met Allen, I feel like I knew him thru Janet. We walked everyday at lunch and talked about our families. I've followed Allen thru the last 8 years of his life and heard of his military achievements. My heart goes out to you. I can't begin to imagine the loss of a child. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Susy Horn

It is not the duration of a life that matters; it is the donation. We are honored that such a fine young man would so selflessly choose to serve his country. Our hearts and prayers are with all of you at this time.

Jaye, Ronnie & Family,
Words cannot express the sorrow and void left in all our hearts with our families’ tragic loss. It has taken us several days to complete writing this, and the reality of our loss has yet to set in totally. As we flip through our old photos and try to remember the stories and events captured within each of them, the whole thing seems impossible and more like a bad dream! The pictures ultimately remind us we should rejoice within each day, since all of our lives are speeding by faster than we realize. We see Allen as a toddler in our wedding pictures, a typical mischievous child at family gatherings, as a teenager steadily maturing in each new school picture, and he ultimately becoming a man dressed in his “Marine Blues.” He had made his lifelong dream of becoming a marine come true. The picture shows a new chapter within his life, one where he became a new brother within a military family. We recently viewed new pictures from his training and life in Arizona, and from his deployment to Iraq that unfold even more chapters within Allen’s life. Some tell the story of Allen’s interaction within his new military family. Others reflect on his meeting a special woman in Arizona, and how their lives were touched by each other. Several of his life and tribulations in Iraq, but they all shout how he continuously touched the lives of others. He was engulfed with the pride for his accomplishment of becoming a marine, and gladly accepted his role in defending our families and nation no matter the cost. With time, our pain and grief will slowly diminish; but our pride and love for Allen will continue to grow forever! We know he is in heaven now, but he will remain here in our hearts forever! Here’s to Allen and all our countries brave soldiers (past & future) who give the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom!

I just can't express in words how sorry I am for your loss. No matter God's plan, he was taken too early. It saddens me to know that he won't be able to fall in love, marry, have children and grow old and grey as he should. Just know that people you don't know have cried tears for you and your son. I am deeply sorry. Thank you, Allen for your selflessness. You are in God's arms now, safe and secure. God Bless you and your family.

I can't even find the words...I lost my 19 year old son--5 Sept 2007, Balad, Iraq. I am absolutely devastated and I know that you are too...but find comfort in the fact that we will see our loved ones, our heroes again. Do I wish that I could trade places with my son? ABSOLUTELY not. He is in the arms of our Lord--"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away" ~Rev 21:4
What a wonderful thought...
May God bless Cpl. Allen C. Roberts, God bless you and your family and God bless America!
