Alberta D. Roberts, 94, of Sauquoit, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at The Grand at Utica.

She was born on November 27, 1931, in Carthage, NY, the daughter of the late, R. Stanley and Gladys (Potter) Donaldson. Alberta graduated Valedictorian from Lyons Falls High School and furthered her education at SUNY Potsdam earning a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She was united in marriage to John S. Ray, Sr. in Utica in 1954. After his passing, Alberta was united in marriage to Evan E. Roberts in New Hartford in 1974. Following his passing, she was united in marriage to Frank H. Shaw in Iron River, MI in 1992. Alberta was employed with Sauquoit Valley Central School, as an elementary school teacher for many years until her retirement. After retiring, she continued working at the school as a favored substitute teacher. Alberta was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 217.

Later in life, Alberta enjoyed traveling with her husband, Frank, country and western dancing, and trips to England, Ireland and Scotland.

Surviving are her children, Cathy (Richard) Weller, Diane (Greg) Sinclair, John (Bill Fisher) Ray, Jr. and David Ray; grandchildren, Megan (Paul) Carlson, Ryan (Brittany) Weller, Caitlin (Chad) Fisher, Erich (Jessica Reum) Kopp, Anders (Sarah) Kopp and Liesl (Albert) Mejias; great grandchildren, Logan, AnDrew, Parker, Sawyer and Maelin Carlson, Kyan and Bentley Weller, Cade and Cole Fisher, Theo and Arlo Kopp, and Liam and Elise Mejias. Also, several nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her husbands, John S. Ray, Sr., Evan E. Roberts and Frank H. Shaw, her parents R. Stanley and Gladys (Potter) Donaldson, and brother, Frank Donaldson.

Alberta's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at The Grand at Utica for all their care and compassion.

In keeping with Alberta's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Graveside services will be in the spring at the convenience of the family in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown. Arrangements are with Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit.
