Hello,
I represent PRAYER SHAWLS 4 FALLEN SOLDIERS (PS4FS), an organization that since October 2007 has sent over 2,800 prayer shawls to military families who have lost a loved one. We are an organization of over 240 groups from all over the country. We make every effort to reach families even when post cards are returned after they have moved. Would you kindly send me a contact email/address so that we may send a loving hand-made prayer shawl to the family? Thank you!

I would like to express my deepest condolences & sympathy to the Cota family for the loss of their son, father, & husband. Victor was a good friend of mine when I was in the Army. He and I were in the same unit together when he was in Delta Company 1-12 IN. Victor was there for me when I started going through my divorce. He was always there when I needed someone to talk to and even when I needed a shoulder to cry on. Victor to me was the type of guy that you could count on no matter what. I didn't find out about his death until today and I'm very sorry if I bring up any painful memories. I just wanted to express my deepest sympathies to the Cota family once again. If it's possible, I would like to get in touch with someone from Victor's family (like his mother or father) so I can send flowers. Please let me know if there's any way that I can reach someone. Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

To the family and parents of Victor I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

June 2, 2008
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Victor, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Te he llorado mucho Chacal.

Lily,
I have no words at this very moment other than to say I love you and we loved Victor. I remember the first time that David brought Victor home when we were in D CO 1-12 together and said this is my Soldier, Cota. He said, "pfft, escucha I'm just Victor. Got anything to feed the fat guy???" What a crazy guy he was!! I laughed so hard I almost spit my soda out when he said "fatboy gotta eat!!!" I remember so many times when you and he would come over to bbq or to play with Donovan and we would hang out, listen to music, drink beer and the guys would play playstation. Do you remember when Donovan would sit on the couch with you and put his arm around you and say, "wanna come home with me???"
We were not only in the same village and unit together but we were good friends and I miss you terribly. David saw Victor just a month ago, while he was in rotation and they actually were able to spent time together and Victor told him to tell me hi. I want you to know that I feel so blessed that I was able to get to know you and Victor and I want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I will try to get in touch with you as soon as I can, as I just found out today. I know that right now is a devastating time for you, but know that I am always here for you Lily. Te Amo Mi Amiga!! Y Vaya Con Dios Victor!!

In Remembrance
The Final Inspection:
Sgt. Cota, Victor Manuel Jr
stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church, have you been true?'
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, LORD, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awefully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked alot of overtime,
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a Cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears,
If You have a place for me here, LORD,
It need not be grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I will understand."
There was a silence all around God's throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, good and faithful servant.
You have borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heavens streets,
Well done you have done your time in Hell."

I wish I had the right words to say at this time, but I know there are none. I grieve for the loss of your beloved son and I know that I cannot fathom the pain you must be feeling. Your son will not be forgotten and what he did to help protect our homeland and our freedoms. It was his life that made him a Hero. It was his noble path that made him an American Hero. It was his ultimate sacrifice that made him a Fallen Hero. May God carry him to Heaven on His precious wings and give him a palace to live in. I pray that our Heavenly Father above will grace you with His love, His comfort and His peace. Heaven's Gates now has a new handsome Soldier standing guard. Amen.

To the Loving Family of Victor Cota
I offer you my heart felt condolances and deepest sympathy for the terrible loss of your and our American Hero. I have read all the heart felt guest book entries and I can see what a wonderful person and Soldier Victor was. It was an honor to learn about him through his loving friends and comrads in arms, he will be missed by so many.
I have to say I understand your loss as I lost my Soldier son, SSgt Joshua Holden on 10/7/07, he was on his second tour in Iraq when he was was returned home ill and passed a year later from Luekemia. I offer Victor's Mom my sincere sympathy, this is the most difficult loss you will have, remember Victor with your heart full of love and the pride you have in him and you will always have him in your heart, that will never go away. My love to his loving wife and beautiful children and all his family and friends. Victor will live on in all your memories, speak of him often and keep him close in heart and mind.

My deepest condolences are extended to the family and friends of Victor Cota. I was Cota’s first line supervisor when he was assigned to Delta Company, 1-12 Infantry. He then became my colleague when he was promoted to Sergeant. I was glad to see him realize his potential and proud to stand with him as an NCO. As many people have already said, Cota knew how to make the most out of any situation and I rarely saw him without a smile. He lived every moment to the fullest. One of the things I used to joke about was his fear of electricity. We used to give him a hard time about his phobia. He told us he wouldn’t plug in Christmas lights and Lily would have to change the light bulbs because he wouldn’t touch them! And, as Top Sump pointed out, Cota let us know it was time for chow with the rallying call he came up with, “Fat boy gotta eat!” My favorite thing to hear him say was something different and he’d always find the perfect time to say it. Cota was always ready to drop the line, “Don’t threaten me with a good time”. My friend, it’s a fair bet to say that you were the reason it was a good time.
Shortly before Cota’s second deployment to the big sandbox, I had him and the rest of my guys over for a BBQ and a chance to relax away from work. At one point I gathered all the family members together and we had a talk. I told them I couldn’t promise everything would be OK. But I did tell them that every one of the husbands was a hero. Victor Cota was a son, a husband, a father, a soldier, and he is a hero. It is my sincerest hope that every one of Victor’s family and friends are proud of him and his accomplishments.
I miss you deeply my friend.

Help our soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen. Help all who are fighting for our country. Give them quick minds and bodies that are always ready to act, to dare and risk, and never afraid to die. O God, our Father be with them, and in them always, "To light and guard, to rule and guide." And if it be thy will taht they give their lives for their country and their homes, grant eternal peace and a holy rest to their souls. We pray, O Lord, for them all, living and dead, but we pray especially for those whom we now have in mind and for whom we have promised to pray. Hasten the day O God when all thy children, of all races and nations, may be united in love an justice with one another under their Father in heaven, through Christ our Lord. Amen
Victor Manuel Cota
